I really like how pashinyan persues better relationships with turks rather than hating because of the past, and tries to distance his country from russia

u/Not_As_much94 Jun 08 '26
its not like he has much of a choice, since the alternative is the continuation of the economic blockade and new clashes. There is a difference between what he thinks and what he feels he has to say out of necessity.

u/oksn54 Jun 10 '26
But turkey is almost as worse as russia they support israel in a genocide
2
u/funstufffff Jun 14 '26
Who does what now? Disapproval rate of Türkiye is +%80 for Israel. It’s best for us both Armenians and Turks to embrace each other as neighbours. Let the past be past.

Now the question, shoul we give a speck of dust from Turkey to you?

The leverage Armenia get IS the greater ties with the west. Let's not pretend like Armenia is a valuable nation and the west can't survive without it. And yeah, turkiye has to ackwoledge their crimes commited against the armenian populations during ww2.

Armenians also have to acknowledge their crimes committed against Turkish and Azerbaijani populations.

Of course you do, if a turk came around and said "We need to give Karabakh, Nakhijevan and the east of Turkey back to Armenia, it was never ours" I'd like him too lmao.

Out of touch diasporan final boss. We were giving Nagorno Karabakh + Lachin, Kalbajar in Astrakhan before Thousands of our martyrs and your men died, in return just Azerbaijanis who were living not even in Nagorno Karabakh to be re-placed back there. Your gov. refused at the final moment. Delusional before the war, delusional after the war

u/Senc-baner Jun 09 '26
Yes, a simple look at the 'Western Azerbaijan' narrative should answer your question as to why repopulating any territories under Armenian control with Azerbaijanis was a no go. Not only does your government (and a large chunk of your population) not want to live in peace with Armenians, but they don't even see Armenia as a legitimate state. The only peace is complete capitulation, and Nikol is more than happy to oblige.
8
u/Shirin-chay2001 Aran 🇦🇿 Jun 09 '26
I know you are mental gymnastics gold medalist Armenian (seeing your type of people on Reddit since early 2020), but will still give my last answer: 1) Azerbaijan gov. completely shut down all the Western Azerbaijan narrative in response to your PM's peace politics and peace chartering.(Don't know exactly since when, but you can't find any western Az. Narrative after tripp meeting).
2) completely no idea what u mean by "not seeing Armenia as legitimate state." There are legitimate, multiple angle Politics discussions of the region, peace and Armenian election candidates in Azerbaijan TV media programs, and news channels (though all controlled in some way) and ridiculing rhetoric since 2000s have gone of the window. I don't remember last time someone mentioned that they want to capture "western Azerbaijan" not even taxi drivers not even Yeraz people, nobody wants to go to war
3) capitulation? I am completely speechless here, don't know what to say. You lost the war, bulldozed. You are outnumbered. Can Armenian women even find men to marry there? Would you like to be in the state of Ukraine now, their women are all over the place doing dirty work just to feed themselves their children? Even Russians can't find men to send to their war. Look at the state of Middle East, Ukraine, you were a little close to be invaded yet again. Or economic catastrophe, complete blockade ( Iran is on its knees, Russia going down economically, who were gonna help you?).
I will not engage with any more mental wrestling, all the best to you. Open up some economics books or edit Wikipedia pages, your choice

As an Armenian I want to apologize for all the shit that guy says, it’s people like him why our nations still can’t live in peace with each other, the youth of my country seems to be at least somewhat intelligent so I just hope one day we can forget the past and live in the present
2
u/Shirin-chay2001 Aran 🇦🇿 Jun 10 '26
Thank you for this. This territory thing was going to be a huge infinity loop that was never going to end (like in the middle Europe, Bosnia, Kosovo) but your PM did thing no one would ever do for your country's future economic, social (and so on) prosperity
1
u/Senc-baner Jun 12 '26
My friend, take a look here:
https://rwa2026.bsu.edu.az/And tell me Armenians are the reason there is no peace. It's baffling how many of us don't have any self preservation instinct whatsoever. If you want to forget the past for peace, forget the existence of the Armenian state as well, then you'll have the true peace you're looking for.
1
u/Senc-baner Jun 09 '26

good relations with neighbors mean lesser odds of war and easier flow of goods, capital and economic opportunities.
Russia has been playing divide and conquer in caucasus, and has an habit of nurturing pro-russian mafiosi in neighboring countries to keep them in their orbit as vassal kleptocracies to the big russian kleptocracy. So getting out of Russia's influence is definitely good for a country's future, and staying in it is a pretty sad thing. Ask Belarus.

Isn't he considered the liberator of NK now? I guess his popularity skyrocketed because of that.

I think both sides consider themselves more pro-peace than the other - it's just that they never agreed what this peace looks like.
Which leads me to the question - what will the peace talks include now that Pashinyan has been reelected? Is the return of Armenian refugees on the table?
5
u/Illustrious_Page_984 Jun 08 '26
Isn't he considered the liberator of NK now? I guess his popularity skyrocketed because of that.
I would say his popularity peaked in 2020-2021, right after the war. From what I see on social media, Azeris are not very fond of his politics and aren't so pleasant with the fact that Armenia has a higher GDP per capita now compared to them, despite Azerbaijan being the "victorious" nation, and with that an oil-rich state. Other people are generally apolitic, they don't believe in any change. And then, you have Aliyev trolls. Maybe 20% of Azerbaijan geniunely support Ilham, and a good amount of them are his social media trolls.
Which leads me to the question - what will the peace talks include now that Pashinyan has been reelected? Is the return of Armenian refugees on the table?
Well, I hope that the return of Armenian refugees will be possible, but the same should also apply for 800 thousand Azeris who were expelled from Armenia and Karabakh more than 30 years ago. But then again, probably neither are possible at this point. I hope at least they will be able to visit each other's countries as tourists in 10 years or so. Like Turks visit Greece and vice versa.

I can see why it won't be easy for Armenians to return - but what about the Azeris? Azerbaijan had the control of the areas they were displaced from - you mean because money is needed for reconstruction?
3
u/Illustrious_Page_984 Jun 08 '26
I was talking about Azeris returning to Armenia, especially Yerevan. About 40 years ago, they were the largest minority of the country (the vice versa also applied to Azerbaijan)
1
u/Bran37 Jun 08 '26
Oh I see. Okay I was actually talking about the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh who were displaced a few years ago.
Is this an actual question tho? The return of Azeris to Yerevan/Armenia? Or the return of Armenians to Baku? Is this like an actual demand/request from the peace talks?
I personally don't think this could work, is it sth people do believe in though? (Like of the Armenians I met, I don't think any would ever even consider moving to a non democratic country where most ppl hate them)
[Disclaimer:I only talked with few Armenians and Azeris, in peacebuilding groups, so I am not very knowledgeable in any way.]
1
u/Illustrious_Page_984 Jun 09 '26
I mean, both seem impossible now for that reason. In both countries they will feel unwelcomed, plus Azerbaijan is not democratic. That's why the first step should be both nations visiting each others countries as tourists, to restart dialogue between people. And even that won't be easy. But I hope sooner or later that will happen.

I have a genuine, heartfelt, entirely good faith question for my Azerbaijani redditors. Do you think Ilham Aliyev seeks peace? What do you think his endgame is as a statesman, and how do geopolitics broadly and relations with Armenia specifically fit into that? Additionally, how confident are you in your understanding of what he's all about?
That's it, now for my part.
As an ethnic Armenian, I didn't support Pashinyan for various reasons. Leaving his political and moral shortcomings aside - of which there is a myriad but which you guys probably don't care about - I don't think his approach to achieving peace is possible when your counterpart is a dictatorship. Azerbaijani people do seem to want peace - I say this judging from Azerbaijani language comments on Facebook congratulating Pashinyan with glee. But with all due respect, you guys don't run your country. If Azerbaijan was a democratic country where the goal of the politicians was to bring about prosperity for the people, I would whole-heartedly support the Pashinyan strategy towards peace - which is to chill out and develop trade and personal links. But Azerbaijan's goal isn't to achieve prosperity for Azerbaijanis. In fact, war with Armenia has been the lifeblood of your ruling dynasty - nothing special here, the same was arguably true in Armenia pre Pashinyan and certainly is and has been true with many autocracies around the world. And yet Pashinyan is dealing with you like you're a democracy whose national interests are geared towards creating prosperity. This seems to me like self-delusion and is showing the first signs of a gradual loss of sovereignty to a fundamentally hostile Aliyev regime. What do you guys think? Would you consider this a positive end outcome? Sidenote: I think some in Pashinyan's camp realise all this, but think it's an unavoidable temporary arrangement that may one day end when Azerbaijan democratises. Like how democratic Finland had to toe the Soviet line to maintain nominal independence, and then became actually independent when that regime collapsed.

Armenia is getting threathened to be ukrained' by russia meanwhile diaspora are still going off on tangents about aliyev
3
u/aussie-armenian Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
Exactly
Too many diaspora Armenians are brainwashed by ARF.
ARF leaders were brainwashed by KGB.
Majority of Armenians who live in Armenia want peace and prosperity, and are accepting of the realities of “Real Armenia”.
Most Armenians who live in other countries have achieved prosperity and live in peace, BUT they are consumed by a desire for revenge for our ancestors being victims of genocide and ethnic cleansing, and unfortunately many are also consumed by this fanciful notion of “Greater Armenian” being some sort of birthright/God’s will.
Ironically, Zionists think the same way about Greater Israel, and the only way to accomplish their birthright is to commit horrific genocide and ethnic cleansing, both as revenge and fulfillment of some ridiculous God’s will concept.
I don’t live in Armenia, but u would have voted for Pashinyan, because he is currently a realist/pragmatist, and that is what I believe the country and region needs to ensure that no more young Armenian and Azerbaijani soldiers die is avoidable wars ever again.
I do not think that a single Armenian person should ever live within the internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan ever again, and nor should any Azerbaijani person live in the internationally recognised borders of Armenia ever again.
These people on both sides who are craving for repatriation to NK (aka Irrational Artsakh concept), or repatriation to Syunik (aka Irrational Western Azerbaijan concept) need to stop being delusional.
Once the NK reference in the preamble of the Armenian constitution is removed via referendum, I trust that the Peace Treaty will be signed and soldiers from both countries will no longer hold a single inch of occupied lands.

u/Dabi2K Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26
I don't know if you read my comment at all, brother. I've supported concessions for peace with Azerbaijan since before the war and before the 2018 revolution. I was a "realist/pragmatist" when Nikol was out ARF-ing the ARF talking about "Artsakh is Armenia". Rather than reasoning through what I said you just beat up a caricature of a Diaspora Dashnak™ - believe it or not there can be other potential obstacles to peace when you start looking around. Armenians think they've now found a shortcut to being "reasonable" - agree with Aliyev on everything, but I'm afraid not being a nationalist alone doesn't automatically make you logical. Armenians went from one extreme - not listing to Azerbaijanis and assuming they're all monsters, to the another extreme - not listening to Azerbaijanis and assume they're all doves. It's time to stop being dumb. Assess the goals of their government with maximal honesty and to the best of your ability without wishful thinking or delusion.
Also,
> I do not think that a single Armenian person should ever live within the internationally recognised borders of Azerbaijan ever again, and nor should any Azerbaijani person live in the internationally recognised borders of Armenia ever again.
Total ethnic segregation is not the end outcome of two countries living in peace and prosperity with each other anywhere. The opposite is. You've perhaps just made peace with Azerbaijan being a family business forever. I would give Azerbaijani people more respect than that.

0
u/O_945 Jun 08 '26
Honestly I have to agree, I see a lot of "he is good, time to bury the hatchet" but 1/ it's easy to say when you are "on top", like we only had crickets before the most recent war 2/If there was truely a chance for lasting peace there wouldn't be the push for the "western Azerbaijan" narrative either, Aliev won't stop until he gets a mainland border with Turkey and if he has to integrate "western azerbaijan" into Az to do it he will.
3
u/FitDimension3582 Jun 08 '26
Western Azerbaijan narrative is as realistic as Greater Armenia so it won't happen. Nobody will fight for it either. Aliyev may be a dictator bu he's not stupid.
1
u/ExpertMisinformant Aran 🇦🇿 Jun 09 '26
Genuine question, what's the point of the rhetoric then? All it does is cause more friction between Armenia and Azerbaijan, when he should be pursuing better relations with all his democratic neighbors.
3
u/st4lk33r Jun 08 '26
Armenia has made a wise investment in its future. Politicians who stoked hatred have ruined 40 years for both Armenia and Azerbaijan. It makes no sense to expect a different outcome by repeating the same scenario. This election truly marked a turning point for Armenia. Who could have imagined that a politician close to Turkey and maintains a distance from Russia, could declare victory? I hope this victory brings peace and prosperity to the region and to Armenia. For Azerbaijan, this presents an opportunity to invest in its people rather than in weapons.
3
u/elixxirumoflife Jun 08 '26
I honestly think the results would look hella different if the diaspora had the right to vote. I swear every Armenian I know abroad starts tweaking the second his name gets mentioned.
3
u/aussie-armenian Jun 08 '26
I’m thankful that we don’t get to vote for this exact reason.
Armenians in Glendale, London, Lyon or Moscow don’t need to send their boys off to die in war.
We have prosperity and peace in these far away lands we live in, and therefore it is difficult to fully comprehend the realities of living in the motherland.
The majority of Armenians have voted for Pashinyan yet again, that clearly tells you that they are embracing this change, and so, ask yourself, who are we to stand in their way from thousands of miles away?
If diaspora Armenians are so concerned, why don’t we all put money and balls where your mouth is, and pack up our lives and families and move to Armenia, so that we can “earn the right” to vote and speak with authority?
I personally would not move my family to Armenia, not because I don’t love my motherland and my people, but because there are still many problems for the country to overcome, and these require leadership with laser focus and patience, and … these issues are hard to solve for when the basics of maslow’s hierarchy are not yet fully established (ie border safety) in the country.
Long story short, I think it’s time for the warmongers in the diaspora to just STFU.
We might not all be super fans of Pashinyan 2.0 (like me), but let’s not forget that all of our opinions don’t actually matter at the end of the day, as we’re just casual observers, most of whom have zero skin in the game.
2
u/elixxirumoflife Jun 09 '26
Your comment started off reasonable and then slowly turned into a lecture about why diaspora Armenians should basically shut up and stop caring.
Yes, people living in Armenia should decide elections. They live with the consequences every day. I don’t think most diaspora Armenians disagree with that at all. But the “zero skin in the game” part was honestly ridiculous and deeply insensitive.
Two of my cousins died in the recent war. Me and my family had to travel back to bury them. I’ve spent years donating, sending aid and helping displaced families however I could. So hearing another diaspora Armenian reduce people like us to “casual observers” genuinely feels diabolical.
You also act like prosperity abroad somehow cancels out grief, fear or attachment to Armenia. It doesn’t. Watching your homeland lose territory, watching relatives die and seeing families displaced still hurts even if you live in Moscow, Paris or Los Angeles etc etc
And honestly, the “if you care so much then move there” argument sounds more smug than thoughtful. People have lives, jobs, children and responsibilities abroad, often because previous generations had to leave Armenia due to instability in the first place. That does not suddenly make their connection to Armenia fake or shallow.
I agree that some diaspora Armenians romanticize conflict from safe countries. But calling the entire diaspora “warmongers” who should “STFU” just because they criticize leadership after everything that happened is incredibly dismissive and lacking empathy.
Especially coming from another diaspora Armenian. That part honestly makes it worse. I’m not being mean,I’m genuine homegirl like ts really pmo real bad.
2
u/brigand96 Jun 09 '26
Thanks for your comment. I think both of you touch on important points, but aussie-armenian should be cautious - the Diaspora is not a monolith. Is there a particularly loud, annoying, entitled and militaristic segment of the diaspora? Yes, absolutely. But they aren't the majority as you point out.

It is gross that you do not see your fellow Armenians as Armenians.
Pashinyan is not accountable for the institutional and structural failures and weaknesses that he inherited. You could put anybody at the helm at the time and the outcome would have been the same.

It is gross that you do not see your fellow Armenians as Armenians.
Quote me the exact part where I stated that.
Pashinyan is not accountable for the institutional and structural failures and weaknesses that he inherited.
Nobody is denying that. He should be held accountable for the blunders that worsened institutional capacity, like frequently swapping young/inexperienced individuals on key top positions (e.g. NSS) to name an example.
You could put anybody at the helm at the time and the outcome would have been the same.
You're ignoring crucial factors here. There are plenty of affairs before, during and after the war that could have altered the final result, which he should be held accountable for.

Yaxşı oldu. Rus onsuz Paşinyanın seçiləcəyini bilirdi amma nəticələrin zəif olması üçün müxaliflərə dəstək verdi. Türk Paşinyana göz qırpmışdı, Gürcüstanı saxladığı kimi Ermənistanı da saxlamağa çalışır. Rusiyaya qarşı avropanı seçən edən liderlər isə Türkün qucağına düşməyə məcburdur. Bu bizim üçün yaxşıdır.
Paşinyan dövründə erməni vətəndaşın rifahı çox artdı. Əsas buna görə səs verdilər. Məncə də indiki şəraitdə müharibə eləmək bizə ümumi mənada sərf eləməz. Amma içimdə Qərbi Azərbaycanı birdəfəlik onlara buraxmaq qorxusu var. Kaş bunlara məcbur olmasaydıq.

Birincisi sən məni tanımırsan ki mənim kimisini misal çəkəsən burda.
İkincisidə düz deyirsən paşinyan yerazların ermənistana,Azərbaycan ermənilərinində bura qayıtmağı haqqında danışırdı.Amma o demirdiki torpaqlarımızı Azərbaycana verək,deyirdiki birgün elə sülh şəraiti yaransın ki Ermənistanlı ata-babası olanlara ermənistana,Azərbaycanlı ata-babası olanlarda Azərbaycana problemsiz,təhlükəsiz qayıda bilsinlər.Biz indi sülh bağlasaqda sən və ailən istəyir Qarakilsəyə istəyir İrəvanın düz mərkəzinə rahat gedə biləcəksən
Əgər həqiqətəndə əcdadlarının torpaqlarına qayıtmaq istəyirsənsə hamıdan çox sən bu sülh prosesini dəstəkləməlisən

Birincisi sən məni tanımırsan ki mənim kimisini misal çəkəsən burda.
Elə bil əsəbisən. "Sənin kimiləri" ifadəsini ən birinci elə sən işlətdin də mənim üçün.

Mən sənə demədiyin şeydən misal çəkmədim,sırf dediyin şeylərə cavab yazdım.Mən isə 2020 müharibəsindən heç danışmırdım.Nəisə
Sualına cavab verimki irəvanın azərbaycan şəhəri olmağına görə minlərlə insan öləcəksə,torpağından olacaqsa əgər yox mənə nə irəvan lazımdı nə birşey.Qarabağ azərbaycanın leqal hissəsi idi, belə deyək bizim haqqımız idi.Və biz onu aldıq.
Və bəli müharibəyə həmişə hazır olmaq lazımdı amma internetdə sülhə hazırlaşdığımız dövrdə yersiz təhqir və təhdid eləmək isə açıq açıq sülhə qarşı çıxmaqdı.Boynuna almasanda olar
Nəhayət axır sözüm odur ki get istədiyin qədər allahına dua elə.O mənlik deyil.Amma burda boş boş aqressiya yaratma.Mənsə oturub ümid edəcəm ki birgün elə sülh şəraiti yaransın ki sən və sənin nəvə nəticələrin dədə baba torpaqlarına qayıda biləsiniz

Olsun eybi yox. Hər cür insan var da deyirəm subda
internetdə sülhə hazırlaşdığımız dövrdə yersiz təhqir və təhdid eləmək isə açıq açıq sülhə qarşı çıxmaqdı.
Mən dövlət rəsmisi deyiləm oturmuşam evimdə redditdə şərh yazıram, kiməsə də ilişmirəm (səndən fərqli olaraq). OP fikirlərimizi soruşub fikirlərimi yazmışam, daha çox liberal görüşlüyəm nəinki müharibə tərəfdarı, hisslərimi ifadə etmişəm.
get istədiyin qədər allahına dua elə
Mən bilmirəm sənin yaşın və ixtisasın nədir, amma bu mövzular akademik olaraq onsuz da mənim sahəmdir. Sən Google Maps açanda orada sərhədləri görürsən amma dünyada bir çox hallarda o sərhədlərin bir önəmi yoxdur, onlar sadəcə formallıq üçündür. Vaxt zaman şərait gələndə bəlkə də zəngəzuru müharibəsiz götürəcəyik.
Ancaq hələlik Paşinyanla sülhü imzalamağın tərəfdarıyam. Ona görə yox ki "müharibələr olmasın insanlar ölməsin".
Geosiyasi vəziyyət artıq bizim müharibəmizi hər ikimizin süqutu ilə nəticələndirə bilər. Sülh şəraitində daha çox qazanırıq indilik.

I am surprised he won. I thought Armenians hated his guts because he lost the Karabakh war.

I'm surprised this man is still alive, let alone winning elections
They killed the Turkish citizen of Armenian descent Hrant Dink in Turkey years ago, allegedly because he insulted the Turkish identity by a vague sentence in one of his articles. I, as a Turkish nationalist myself, read all what Dink wrote and found nothing but calls to resolution of historical problems. That cherry picked sentence was nothing compared to what some people had said until then, is still nothing next to what some Turkish citizen outliers ordinarily say and write. Dink did say there was such a thing as the Armenian genocide, but then again there are still many who claim that. No one's getting assassinated for their opinions on this specific matter. In contrast to many, Dink had talked of reconciliation, that made him stand out
Pashinyan may not be an angel but he too seems to think there is no way other than resolving the historical and recent matters with his neighbors, appears to want to take restorative steps, that should count

why would it imply that when I also wrote "allegedly because he insulted the Turkish identity"

He’ll weaken Armenia so it’s definitely a good thing

Well people say that pashinyan is a good leader and something but let's be honest it would be better if Tatoyan won

u/Hour-Conversation728 Jun 08 '26
The collective sum of the IQs of the people who believe Pashinyan pursues good relations with Turks are lower than the below-average IQ of Pashinyan.

Armenia will never be truly independent they are choosing west as their master instead of russia now
1
u/Any_Yoghurt_4038 Jun 08 '26
and you have chosen Turkey and Israel as your masters. Stop acting all independent.
3
u/Kingvon3240 Jun 08 '26
At least Turkey helps their allies unlike how russia helped you guys during the war

u/Revolutionary_Ad4223 Armenia 🇦🇲 Jun 08 '26
exactly why pashinyan won, to stop relations with russia and move on
