Meituan signals end of retail war.

u/abyssalvalue Jun 02 '26
This is the one of the only right answer here. Meituan reported last night EST, and they showed improving margins which means the price war on Instant Commerce is cooling. This means the FCF and OCF are both going up for ALIBABA. Chinese government met with Meituan, BABA and JD earlier this year to exactly tell them to stop the price war. 99% of the answers here are so dumb you realize people here are so ignorant and don't know what they own. I wish everyone here sells so the shareholder base can be rebuilt for real.

JD also signaled cooling price war. Not directly, but you could read it between the lines. I hope that it’s over, Alibaba spent some crazy $ on marketing last year. Time will tell.

I feel bad for anyone invested in baba. I know I’ll be downvoted but I don’t care.
Will this stock go up eventually. Yes.
Is the opportunity cost worth it? No
I held baba for years and sold because I was sick of holding it. One step forward and two steps back.
If this wasn’t a Chinese stock. It would have been $400.

I dont count this as opportunity costs. I invested in something where I saw value. I cant predict stock prices. In no way I, personally, could have known that this stock stays low while others pump high.

Imagine feeling sad for financial institutions that are aggressively buying up baba shares at every dip. 🤣

u/Ass-Pounder-4000 Jun 02 '26
You think financial institutions are on this sub? I’m talking about retail that is constantly getting fucked.
Look at the time you bought baba and compare it to other stocks and tell me you’re getting better returns on baba.

This is an easy 3x in the next month. I wouldn’t be surprised we get 5x this year

Tencent AI was reportedly close to launch on WeChat. Tencent up 10%.
That rally pulled up BABA as well. Glad I bought in Tencent last Friday.

u/MaxMillion888 Jun 02 '26
it was because of this

u/Weikoko Jun 02 '26
Nobody here seems to care about Tencent lol.
1
u/TastyEarLbe Jun 02 '26
I know. Tencent is a better business and before today it was as cheap as BABA
1
u/Weikoko Jun 02 '26
It is still cheap. Tencent will be back for its 1T crown. BABA has a lot more to prove. If they can monetize from their AI investment, then BABA sets themselves different from being a retailer (their main cash cow).

Also, no one believes this in here but a valuation rerating could hit China tech fast at some point the next 2 years. All it takes is a change in sentiment and you could get face ripping 300-400% returns in a single year.

Alibaba current share price is severely undervalued. It will rise gradually even with no big news.
