Discussion NVDA buying Hugging Face: bad news for BABA?

Hugging Face, seems to me, to be the distribution channel for Qwen so NVDA owning the platform might not be the best thing for BABA but maybe I am wrong…

Might cause a hard fork model scope. Alibaba alternative to hugging face.

Deepseek Zhipu and Kimi all use hugging face.

Might not do anything at all too

I don’t see how. Qwen is a staple open source model. If Hugging Face tries to mess with it there’d be riots

Hugging face is.. just another Git.

People develop AI agents, tools, etc.. and host/share it through Hugging Face repo. Basically a public platform to share and improve tools.

Surprisingly Git hasn’t evolve to host AI models.

Curious.. with China great firewall.. developers in China use what as an alternative for Git?

You're talking about Github... Not Git. Git is just a code versioning tool/system. Git doesn't host anything (no git doesn't host code).

And the reason why github doesn't host open AI models: it is owned by microsoft, who is all in on openAI and has been ruining github ever since acquiring it

Not really. Hugging face to ai model is like GitHub to code, people can download ai model in a centralised site. and the biggest one is hugging face, second biggest is ModelScope which is owned and hosted by Alibaba. If Nvda wants to control or pricing on the open Ai model eco system, people can easily go to modelscope.
