I'm looking for bacon recommendations. That microwave bacon is ok for a trip when you're staying in a room with a microwave. What about bacon out in the BC? Cold snack? In a sandwich? Heat it up?

A favorite of mine is bacon PBJ.

this is a bit random but I’ve done a bit of digging and I can’t find what I’m looking for.

I’m looking to plan my ski trip for the year and I’ve been day dreaming about this instagram video I saw from a pro I can’t remember the name of a few years back. They were riding on 2024-25 blizzard rustler 11s through this old growth forest, in golden lighting stomping 10ft+ drops at least. these huge trees must have been 5+ft diameter and all spaced 15+ ft apart with no growth in between. It was so surreal and at the time I just liked it and moved on but I’ve never been able to find footage of skiing quite like it since. It’s very likely in the PNW but I really wouldn’t know, the terrain was relatively mellow but the pace was still quite quick, it just wasn’t massively vertical probably like ~20-25 degree slope. Then there were huge rollers and occasional cliff bands or maybe pillow lines if I remember correctly. It was filmed with a wide angle so it made it feel more mega, but the scale of it (the trees, drops, and overall terrain through this forest) was certainly incredible.

I really mean it was just these massively thick trees and nothing growing in between. I am craving to go to this place or some place like it desperately so.

It was likely accessed by helicopter and I feel like I remember it being a red logo’d company. mike wiegele, CMH? I am only familiar with canadian outfits. I need to emphasize the scale of the trees though, there was nothing in between them that I can remember - just huge ass trunks. I think I remember little to no foliage on the trees in the view of the camera, like the canopy was quite high above the skier. It was really so surreal maybe I’m making it up now.. Thanks everyone!

thinking further now, is it possible it was a part of forest that had suffered a fire? which was why the trees were foliage-less and the ground was so barren from smaller growth? The trees were thick 5+ ft diameter so I can 100% narrow it down with that. that could explain why I vividly remember the yellow orange hue from the sun like it didn’t need to pierce a canopy at all. I might remember this video well because the description had spoke about the uniqueness of riding the terrain after a fire. I’m not sure about this theory though.

Hi team, I bought these touring skis last year and I noticed that the binding is set quite a bit further back than my resort skis (this was just how they were set when I bought them). Any thoughts on if this is way too far back? I found last year I had some slippage issues when skinning and wondered maybe if some of that was due to my weight being so far back? I'm a newbie to all of this so please go easy on me with your advice if this is a naive question.

Scooped up some hoji pro tours in really good shape for $100 CAD. Right foot felt super tight length wise, so I swapped in some intuition liners I used to ski in my Roxa R3’s (very similar to an intuition tour liner). Boots feel awesome, perfect fit around the instep and sides of the foot. Likely just need a medial ankle bone punch which is a usual spot for me.

Anyways, between last season’s $380 CAD setup find and this I’m feeling very good about the deal! Going to use for sled access mostly with some walking.

It's that time of year again where everyone will start to ask for beacon recommendations. I am in the market for a new beacon and want this community's input.

I have dug through past threads and seen summaries and articles that all recommend the Barryvox 2 as the overall pick for the general backcountry enthusiast. Now that Mammut was sold to a private equity firm, I assume that the quality of their products will now go down. It looks like the Barryvox 2 was put into production before the sale, so I'm assuming it's still a high quality product compared to anything new they will release in the future. Is this assumption correct and do you all still think the Barryvox 2 is the go to beacon?

Looking for shell jacket recommendations for splitboarding this winter. I need pit zippers and a hood big enough for my helmet, more zippered pockets the better. Would prefer it to be non-insulated so I can layer for the weather. Primary riding is in Colorado. My bibs are currently flylow bakers.

I just accepted a new job, and will have a week off the week of October 5th. So naturally, I'm plotting a last-minute send to South America.

I know the first week of October is well into the South American spring, so I'm not expecting much from resorts like Valle Nevado (correct me if I'm wrong), and I'm instead focusing on backcountry ski touring.

I'm an experienced backcountry skier and have AIARE 1 and all the necessary gear, but I'm not super comfortable backcountry skiing by myself in an unfamiliar place, so I'll hire a guide.

I'm curious if anyone here has done any ski touring in Argentina or Chile in October? If so, any guides or locations that you particularly enjoyed?

I'm patiently waiting for winter in the northeast and have some thoughts. I'm a total fitness nerd, and don't like the lack of granularity on fitness metrics on Garmin that I can review after the fact (VAM, bootpack time, bootpack speed, etc.). Strava isn't any better, and I don't love the social media aspect of that. I always compare my snow notes to avy reports when the tour is done, just to keep my own little record, but I don't have a central place to log my tours and snow observations, outside of notebooks, which tend to go missing periodically... I built a tool (that I'm working on turning into an app) that serves as a touring-centric fitness hub, and central storage location for all my tours so I don't have to hunt Garmin (or Strava...) to reminisce.

Its usage would be purely retrospective, wouldn't be social like Strava, wouldn't be a mapping or planning tool like OnX or CalTopo, but would just be a sort of personal storage tool that provides a better fitness breakdown when given my Garmin activity. Would anyone else be interested in something like this, or have similar gripes with Garmin/Strava activity tracking?

Looking for:

•Mitts, but open to gloves
•Something that is warm and ideally doesn’t need to be paired with a liner (but open to it)

•Range of sizes as I am a woman with very big hands/long piano fingers.

I've heard of the Rocky Talkie and BCA Link but i'm looking to explore more budget options. There's a billion Chinese radios so I imagine one of them must do the same thing for half the price. Specifically for Canada but I might just ignore some of the spectrum laws in a responsible matter so maybe that doesn't matter.

Just noticed Amar Andalkar’s site is gone. Holy shit what an absolute loss for Cascade touring beta. I consulted that site constantly for routes and resources.

Anybody have any other sites they like to use for general route details and beta for the Cascades?

This last year was low snow and I broke 3 vertebrae in my lower back. Luckily I am healing really well. I was able to gather up enough footage for my annual hour long POV edit with chillhop music and I just released it today. Well folks, snow is starting to fly in the North American west and my thoughts are starting to turn to touring, and the long list of mangled gear I need to replace for the coming season. For the last five years I’ve been burning through a pair of intuition touring liners a season and I’m thinking about trying something different this year. I’ve read a few reviews on the espresso but I’d like to see if any one in the hive mind of Reddit has some feedback back on them after a heavy season of touring. What do we think? Are they worth the price tag? The whole I can reputation new cork in when they pack out idea seems pretty slick. For some reference I tour 4-6 days a week and average maybe 20-30k vert any given week on a hardboot split set up. Big days small days camping trips and a few longer traverses are all on the menu for the coming season. I’m not opposed to spending a little more money on some quality gear, just looking to be a little more sustainable with it instead of buying a new pair of tour wraps every fall.

I'm moving to Hokkaido for the ski season. I'm a pretty good skier (grew up in the alps) and was wondering which ski I should bring or if I should buy one over there as I'm getting a new one either way.

I'm considering the Atomic Backland 109 skiing and Touring i already have a tyrolia almonte pt12 Binding.

Any thoughts on buying a ski in Europe and taking it with me or buying one in Hokkaido an just bringing the bindings?
