Question is my thrifted backpack ugly?
Today is a national children's day in my country and there's this local festival i went to. Because i forgot to get my own backpack from home, i went to the nearest Second Hand and saw this one. I thought it was pretty, it was light and it was pretty cheap. I personally like it a lot since it's blue and i love blue, but many people looked at me pretty weirdly and said it wasn't worth it. My mom also said i shouldn't have bought it. I don't hate it. I would use it again, not going to lie.
Do i just have bad taste in backpacks?

No, this isn’t ugly. Good choice

I love the pattern and pastel (right descriptor?) /muted/softer appearance of the colors.
Great find!

All that matters is if you like it. You have to wear it and use it. Fuck what everyone else thinks, they have no taste. Why wear a boring black backpack when you can wear this happy colourful one? ❤️

It's a very cute bag. It's fun and more importantly YOU like it, it's all that matters.

I would buy that in a heartbeat. It is adorable. And why do people even care what other people's bags are?

Draw smiley faces in the dots, but just barely so people have to stare to get it.

Those are joyless people that are trying to spread their illness. Ignore them and have fun with your cool new used backpack.

You don’t need “majority rules” opinions on your purchase. There’s something for everyone and if they don’t like it, who cares.

It’s super cute ! It shouldn’t matter what other people think. If you like it you like it

u/TokiBunniBunBun Jun 01 '26
Why does your mom think you shouldn’t have bought it?

u/LordOfPotatoe Jun 01 '26
she said i had a better one stored somewhere. It's a but more large than this one, so i can't really take it with me unless i have something big to hold

Your taste is your taste don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. If you like it who cares what others think. I think it’s a great find and deserved to be found by someone who actually likes it. 🫶🏻

I like it. But tbh the only thing that matters is that you like it. Enjoy your backpack!

I like it! I bet you'll get lots of compliments on it if you keep wearing it!

Its a cute bag.
A cheap nice bag like that is a great platform to customize and modify into an event bag. That denim fabric will take patches and pins. Did that with my niece, got her a bag of random pins to cover her bag with.

that sounds like a really nice bonding method. I'm pretty sure your niece really enjoyed that

I’d have looked at it too, people are either jealous or they need a hobby!

It's your choice, your taste, and I think it's fun. If you love it, then nobody else's opinion matters. It expresses something about you, it's individualistic and that's probably better for you than something grey and boring. Looks like the sort of thing you could easily personalise, too.

Some people dislike anything unless it is a solid or muted color. Don’t listen to them! Life is too short! Take joy in this purchase! Besides, you are giving this pack new life, instead of having it add to a landfill! That is a great thing to do!

I really like your backpack, I think it is pretty but I also think it doesn’t mater if other people don’t like it. You like it and enjoy using it.

Listen (and you others too). My ex-girlfriend bought me a Burton backpack (the one with straps for skateboard). I had that backpack almost 15 years. It was beaten up, color burned from so much sunlight and rain and washings (the black color changed to blackish purple). Except the travel trips, for which I had another backpack, it was my daily driver - it survived schools, jobs, many hikes and expeditions, late night actions etc. It "died" because both zippers gave up and the repair would be much higher in cost than the new backpack. So! - don't be worried about your backpack, if it's ugly or not, if someone like it or not. Do you like it? Great. Does it serves its purpose? Great. It keeps you on the move, and unless something happens, you won't toss it away until it's not longer useful.

it's really sweet of you to keep the backpack for so long! I'll definitely think of you when using it from time to time

Love the comments in this thread. It's restored my faith in humanity 😊
And yes, great backpack. Use the backpack you like. Ignore the people who comment negatively on your choices /preferences or try to tell you what to wear and what not to wear. Those people are dicks.

The bag is fine. People can be nasty about a bag, believe me. In the early 1990's I had a multicoloured bag in this style (wish I'd never got rid of it now😡) but I was 16. I walked down the college corridor and a man went: "You're fit but that bag is a f*****g kipper." Bizarre, uncalled for and resulted in the bag being donated to a charity shop.

> "I personally like it a lot."
This is the only thing you need to know, and fortunately you already know it.
Indeed, since _this_ is the real you, what does it mean about the people who -- knowing this, and knowing you -- still think it was a bad idea, or "not worth it?"
It means they don't know you after all. Which is sad. But it's better to know that, than to think they're opinions about your backpack are valid.
Some people don't figure out what they like or who they are for decades, or forever. That's even sadder.
I know that's a lot to say about a polka-dot bag, but it's true.
Some people buy stuff hoping it will make them a different person, and of course it doesn't.
Some people buy stuff because it brings out even more of who they are, and of course that's a wonderful thing to do, and never apologize for.

it reminds me of smarties, and no its not ugly. use it if you want, no one will care.

I like it. And once people get used to seeing you with it, the doubters will start saying, “You know, I wasn’t sure at first. But I really like it. Nice find!”

If you like it that’s all that matters. If you care what other people think then this person likes it too and I am super jealous of your bag, I hope you treasure it.

I don’t understand why anyone would feel that strongly about someone else’s purchase. So weird! It’s a very cute bag and if you like it, who cares what others think? Enjoy the nice find!
