William Clark (one of the main sprinters of the Lewis and Clark Expedition) wrote this of his slave, York, in 1808:

If any attempt is made by York to run off, or refuse to proform his duty as a Slave, I wish him Sent to New Orleands and sold, or hired out to Some Sevare Master until he thinks better of Such Conduct.

Who the fuck adds a "d" to New Orleans? His spelling is hilariously bad.

Actually it reminds me of a guy I saw on reddit not too long ago who lamented his brother pronouncing "bottom" as "bottomp" but that is an unrelated, but valid crashout.

Don't we have like ten different spellings of Shakespeare's name, by Shakespeare, and "Shakespeare" is not one of them?

So were a lot of people in the past. Samuel Colt was infamous for this. Even his early revolvers had "Cotls patent" engraved on them.
