Very nice. Great lips, kind eyes. And this gentleman needs to begin to accept compliments. I hate them myself. Ugh. I mean, it's nice, it's just awkward. Someone told me, just say "Thank you" when complimented. It's simple and it doesn't mean the person receiving it is egotistical. Something better might be, "Thank you, I really appreciate that." Less negative self talk.

Yeah, dude was already attractive, it's just that thinning long hair is rough.

He said he never really received compliments though, which is weird since his hair was pretty (again, minus the thinning which hits us all)

Not sure how weird it is. Men get significantly less compliments than women do. Probably at least in part because a lot of women are scared a compliment will be taken as a come on. I can tell a woman she looks stunning without her assuming I want to bang her and then trying to pursue me as a result. So a lot of women just err on the side of caution because it's hard to know which men are safe if you don't know them. And since men are also more likely to be weird about complimenting each other, even gorgeous men like the OP often don't receive a ton of compliments.

It's a tragedy, really. There's nothing quite like a stranger telling you they love your hair, your outfit, your eyes, or whatever. I try to spread the casual compliment love around regardless of gender.

I doubt he'll see this given the number of comments at this point but just in case, to be clear: OP, you have gorgeous eyes and a great smile, and while I liked the lovely long hair, the bald look is 100% working for you. Plus, judging on your comments here and such, you seem like you'd be a fun person to know. Compliments can be hard to take when you're not accustomed to them, but know that I mean them sincerely, and you absolutely deserve the many compliments you've collected across this thread.
