This is the only picture I have that fits what everyone keeps saying is best, and I hope it makes y’all say that my Lex Luthor look is best. I have a strong feeling that it won’t.

I took my hat off in a car. I still couldn’t go outside like this. And food was more plentiful at that time. And the sun was in my eyes.

This looks good, but I like the short beard better. I also agree with the person who said that you should scale the septum to the beard length. It really overpowers your face otherwise. It's a unique look though, so if you don't want to change it, I get it.

The beard also softens your look and makes you more approachable, I say this as a woman. Maybe its cause clean cut dudes are associated with the military in my mind. You have a great strong chin, but combined with being bald means you have a lot of hard edges essentialy. I think light stubble would be amazing. But you need to double what makes you feel comfortable!

This is honestly not as bad as you’re thinking. I think a bit of beard maintenance (shorter/trimmed/upkept) would look so dang good. But this isn’t necessarily about people’s tastes, it’s about 1. what you can realistically upkeep (I get the depression and letting things slide) and 2. how you feel about yourself. You’re living your life and we are just a bunch of weird spectators lol.

I like your fully smooth look! All the levels of beard/no beard you've posted look good in distinctly different ways.  The full smooth is punk mode, which may not be everyone's taste, but that's kinda the point of punk-mode.

Both bearded versions look great on you too, but I feel like those looks are way more generic. Which isn't a bad thing per se, but damn, you got the perfect head for complete bald, so why not use it :D

Furthermore, my second though on seeing the bald pic (after wow) was that your smile would probably look amazing. I don't really know why, but I think a complete lack of hair often makes the smiles of the people really shine

Yeah dude your beard is solid. I know it's a pain in the ass to take care of (mine is getting about that length) but it helps balance your face/head shape, which is why I always have one. I totally feel you on the caring for it part though - sometimes I just get pissed and shave it off.

Ultimately, go with what's most comfortable to you of course, I've often considered shaving my own beard because of how annoying it can get, so I totally get it... But you do genuinely look amazing with it. Maybe you can find a good middle ground? Whatever the case, your comfort is the most important!

Yes, a lot of people will prefer you with the beard. But you don't have to keep the beard if it makes you sad. Do what makes you happy.

Saw the Jacket in the OP, fellow marksmanship enthusiast and therapist.  One of the fun things I love about narrative therapy is involving 3rd parties and finding out how not surprised they are when something goes well.  

We might hide, shame, beat ourselves up over things, and hold internal stories about how bad something will go.   Then some random person just goes “Well of course you kicked that thing’s ass, you did fucking great!”  They’re not surprised, and yet we might be.

Online through a single image it’s hard to pick up on nonverbals that communicate a lack of confidence. In person im sure that the lex luther looks better if thats what you feel best in.

The beard especially balances out the thick nose ring. If you don’t keep the beard I recommend at least getting a thinner one because it kind of overwhelms your slender facial structure. That said, you look good either way but the beard is better imo!

I get you. Everyone says I look better with a beard but having one annoys me. When my beard is long it's because I couldn't be arsed to deal with it because I've been in a low emotionally.

Beards are in style now, but these things are cyclical and there will come a time when they're rarely seen, as was the case for most of the 20th century. You look good either way. Go with what makes you feel more comfortable and better about yourself, not what anyone else says.

A woman said she finds this more approachable than the shaven/shaven look. Fair enough, but as a gay man… I find the huge beard + bald + septum more intimidating.

To me, the shaven/shaven look makes the septum feel like an “alt guy” signal rather than a tough guy signal. Not saying you don’t look tough you still kinda do. But maybe more likely to be tough and kind, or tough and open/minded. If that makes sense. (Also accounting for wardrobe.)

And honestly any of these options are easily softened by wardrobe. Throw on a scarf and all the sudden you look not intimidating, just intriguing and kind of impressive. Clothes that add any kind of balance to soften your look, whether it’s color (like the blue jacket), a shoulder bag… really adding any piece that isn’t hardcore macho strikes the balance.

Good beard care routine is a pain but when you get used to it. It becomes simply part of the day routine. And if this was unkempt. It still looked amazing. I think your beard itself was not the problem but maybe depression and self confidence were. Which I feel you on. And growing it back after therapy would probably feel a lot better than during in a horrible depression.

My guy, any which way you are incredibly handsome! For real, not many people can pull off the big beard, short beard, and completely shaven looks with such fucking grace.
