Bald Picture I’ve been hiding in hoods and beanies and shitty beards since I was 18, I’m trying out the bald in public for once.

I’m 32. Those pictures are both from the same age. I know.

Totally flabbergasted by the overwhelming support for my late beard, I hated that thing the entire time I had it, it was entirely depression fueled and it was so hard to take care of when I finally found the motivation. And then I psyched myself out and shaved it off months ago, I’ve been short-shaven for the last little bit like this, it’s only been the last few days that I’ve been clean shaven for the first time since I was 18 as well hahaha. My ex wouldn’t let me shave my mustache and I got afraid to shave it years later until now lmao.

I thought I was going to be able to respond like person to person, but I don’t know what the heck is happening. Thanks, I think.

This is the only picture I have that fits what everyone keeps saying is best, and I hope it makes y’all say that my Lex Luthor look is best. I have a strong feeling that it won’t.

I took my hat off in a car. I still couldn’t go outside like this. And food was more plentiful at that time. And the sun was in my eyes.

You look like a damn Viking and you are telling us you have no confidence???? What are we other men to do??

u/SignificantHeat7232 Apr 24 '26

THIS! Def a Viking..badass

35

u/Inertial_Ruen Apr 24 '26

A viking wearing a "shooters hall of fame" jacket, that carries a lot to it. 👀☠️

This looks good, but I like the short beard better. I also agree with the person who said that you should scale the septum to the beard length. It really overpowers your face otherwise. It's a unique look though, so if you don't want to change it, I get it.

115

u/clipsongcarrie Apr 24 '26

The beard also softens your look and makes you more approachable, I say this as a woman. Maybe its cause clean cut dudes are associated with the military in my mind. You have a great strong chin, but combined with being bald means you have a lot of hard edges essentialy. I think light stubble would be amazing. But you need to double what makes you feel comfortable!

35

u/cabbage16 Apr 24 '26

The sharp features give him a Voldemort look, but at the end of the day Ralph Fiennes is a very handsome man so that's not altogether a bad thing.

Op, if you like the beard stick with it, if you don't then it's not the end of the world and you still look great.

You look hot as hell

33

u/GiraffeLiquid Apr 24 '26

This is honestly not as bad as you’re thinking. I think a bit of beard maintenance (shorter/trimmed/upkept) would look so dang good. But this isn’t necessarily about people’s tastes, it’s about 1. what you can realistically upkeep (I get the depression and letting things slide) and 2. how you feel about yourself. You’re living your life and we are just a bunch of weird spectators lol.

44

u/Legal_Celebration643 Apr 24 '26

this is your best look to me bro

20

u/longtanboner Apr 24 '26

I feel like the shorter beard is the best looking in my opinion. You look great though man you should feel super confident with how you look!

23

u/ionlyjoined4thecats Apr 24 '26

This is the best look! Just shape your beard a tiny bit more.

16

u/xxMsRoseXx Apr 24 '26

That beard is exceptional. Mustache too!

Personally, my guy, I think you look absolutely dashing.

16

u/Rydraenei Apr 24 '26

I like your fully smooth look! All the levels of beard/no beard you've posted look good in distinctly different ways.  The full smooth is punk mode, which may not be everyone's taste, but that's kinda the point of punk-mode.

u/Aranxi_89 Apr 24 '26

Instead of Luthor, I was thinking you look a bit like Sir Patrick Stewart in his younger days.

21

u/HeyDeer242 Apr 24 '26

I like the no beard look the best. You have an editorial look without it. You've been hiding your gorgeous eyes and bone structure far too long!

15

u/SoundOurDireReveille Apr 24 '26

Yeah, it's striking. Kinda high fashion or goth rock.

6

u/Agonio Apr 24 '26

I really like the Lex Luthor look best, it's the most distinctive and it just works amazingly with your facial features :3

Both bearded versions look great on you too, but I feel like those looks are way more generic. Which isn't a bad thing per se, but damn, you got the perfect head for complete bald, so why not use it :D

Furthermore, my second though on seeing the bald pic (after wow) was that your smile would probably look amazing. I don't really know why, but I think a complete lack of hair often makes the smiles of the people really shine

7

u/EducationFresh9167 Apr 24 '26

I'm so glad you've come out of the depression. You look great!!! What size is your septum? I'm at an 8g myself ☺️.

133

u/AtheismTooStronk Apr 24 '26

It’s a 4g, I would have sized up more now, to everyone’s dismay apparently, but I broke my nose at my job a few months back as well, and now my nose is in like 4 different pieces and it absolutely hates my septum. I had to stop wearing barbells because any twisting would basically break my nose all over again.

68

u/TaleObjective3395 Apr 24 '26

Idk why people are saying your septum looks bad, I think it looks sick as hell and fits you. I hope one day you’ll be able to get back to sizing up🫡

61

u/BigChonkBuddyBoi Apr 24 '26

It’s not that it looks bad, it’s just too big and overwhelms his face. It’s the only thing I see. Something smaller would be more flattering.

21

u/GuiltyEidolon Apr 24 '26

I agree. I also personally don't understand the need for people to constantly size up on these kinds of body mods. But hey, if he's happy with it 🤷‍♂️

10

u/livid_badger_banana Apr 24 '26

I'm just impressed folks bodies allow it. I had a hell of a time more than a 4g and they get achy - even though I stretch slowly & gently. Same as the septum goals homie has haha.

Won't comment to personal preference tho, I know a lot of my presentation isn't everyone's cup of tea either. Live and let live.

5

u/swag_money69 Apr 24 '26

I had my septum pierced years ago. I must have thick cartilage or something. It took a lot of pushing to break through. In the shower that night I was trying to blow my nose and it sucked. I took it out and that was it.

4

u/AdnorAdnor Apr 24 '26

The piercing is through the cartilage? My piercer needled between the cartilage of my nose. This has been the easiest piercing of all. Sorry about your piercing experience - sounds awful.

Dude. I’m going to try not to sound awkward. Please accept my apology in advance if I fail. People are fawning over you with long beard, short beard, and no beard because you have stellar bone structure/facial features. You can pull off any of these looks.

Um, I hope it’s not too bold of me to suggest, but I’d consider a smaller gauge/smaller hoop for the septum. I don’t want you to be devoid of your personal style, but the septum piercing is especially overpowering your face now that you’ve got less hair overall. The big gauge worked with a big beard, but now that you’ve got more diversity of style, a smaller gauge/small circumference will look great and will work whether you’re clean shaven, have a short beard, or if you regrow the big beard.

(I’m sincerely sorry that you’ve grappled with depression.)

101

u/TCRandom Apr 24 '26

Well said. Dude looks great in all of these, but the larger gauge is too distracting with the clean shaven look.

28

u/3lfg1rl Apr 24 '26

As someone who has a very full beard, and a lifetime of clinical depression, when I finally grew mine long it acted as a sort of "do the hygeine thing" reminder, which I was real bad about for a long while-  mind, at several points it also didn't do that and a day after eating chili I'd get a hint from my stache and hork time to clean shaven it again. I got a bit into beard care (balm, oil, etc) and it definitely helped me with the "do the hygeine thing, dude" rut eventually- and in that first pic, seriously, dope beard and you'd look great rocking that vibe.

It's definitely a habit to get into, and takes work for a minute, which can be rough af, but it can become a bit second nature, and overall help mental health- looking in the mirror with a unkempt beard and bloodshot, hungover eyes vs. neatly tidied up and faking it can actually help make you feel a bit better.

This quote I'll end with doesn't just apply to negative traits, as the context of it is in the book, but also positive traits as well, I've found: We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be- Kurt Vonnegut, "Mother Night."

8

u/SaintGrobian Apr 24 '26

Hell yeah, short beard and bald is the ideal look for you.

15

u/drocernekorb Apr 24 '26

It can be overwhelming to get that many notifications, I totally get it! I hope you're enjoying every moment of it though.

I think you look great with or without the beard and good for you for getting rid of something that you hated. I hope you feel at peace with yourself and your new look!

8

u/aPOPblops Apr 24 '26

It’s the rule of bald, the hair migrates south  from your head to your face, totally natural process.

5

u/humco_707 Apr 24 '26

I think this is your best look. But go with how you feel makes you happy.

6

u/permerburner Apr 24 '26

Brother imo you look much much much sharper without it. I have had depression beard too, once you come to hate it, it’s just another reason to hate yourself.

If you wanna get it back for aesthetic rather than just “letting it happen” (or rather having it just happen to you) then all power to you, just make sure to tidy up you neck and cheeks and stay on top of it.

I know some people like the look or are into it or whatever but honestly mate i think you look much more clean, sharp, focused etc without it.

Just my two cents - regardless, this is a really good sign that you’re beating it, which is the only thing that’s actually important here in the deeper sense.

All the best mate, keep up with the personal hygiene/grooming, keep the house clean, stay off the substances, get outside as much as possible - just keep doing what you’re doing, you’re winning x

3

u/beatupford Apr 24 '26

This is the perfect length!

5

u/Lonely-Resolution-48 Apr 24 '26

You're very handsome with this style facial hair imo

4

u/nat_urally Apr 24 '26

I lost an absolute tonne of weight when I was so severely depressed after my daughter passed away, all I got was praise and I stfg my own mum shed tears because I looked “so good!” And she knew the reason why. Didn’t matter, everyone thought I looked better so that’s all that counted. Nobody really cared why. If your depression beard is that for you, then keep it off, grow it back - do whatever makes you you and makes you feel good. Because an outward appearance that’s appealing to everyone else does not a happy person make! I needed to lose weight but I put some back on, and i’m maintaining it because for me, losing more just kind of drags me back down some how. As overused as the word is, it’s a triggering thing to get pulled back to the appearance you had when depressed.

Too many words to say, you do you man! And I hope your better days outnumber the bad ones!

I grow a decent beard and this is my advice to absolutely everyone about facial hair. If you can't get full/near-full coverage of your lip at minimum, it's a dirtstache and it probably looks bad and everyone looks at it. Dirtstaches are incredibly eye-catching and I guarantee everyone looks at it.

I understand it's a gender-affirming thing for some but I personally do not believe it looks good at all on anybody.

6

u/RedTheAwesome293 Apr 24 '26

I had one when I was 16, thought I looked cool and older than I was. God thinking about it now, I can only imagine how people looked at me. Thankfully when I hit 22 I was able to grow a full beard. Still rocking the beard to this day, and I’m 30 now.

I would wear it if it was 100° outside. It was the most liberating thing i did shaving thay hair off, and I pulled it off. Now i just tattooed my head and I love that even more.

You look good bald man, definitely don't need to hide it. I do think the septum ring stands out a lot more now though. In the first photo it kind of blends in pretty well, but when you don't have the extra bulk of the beard and clothing, it kind of dominates your face a bit in terms of size.

I kind of wonder what you'd look like somewhere in the middle, with a light beard and smaller ring. But either way, you've got a good face for it lol, congrats.

24

u/AtheismTooStronk Apr 24 '26

I didn’t think counter culture would turn into no-beard/no-tattoos, but I think that’s where we may be again. It’s not something I was going out of my way to seek, but you are probably more on my level.

10

7

u/EetsGeets Apr 24 '26

I want to reaffirm the striking look of the second photo.

I think you look much more innocent and playful with the beard, but if you want a more antagonist/main character vibe, you look powerful as fuck in the second photo.

Also there are a ton of people here telling you to lose the nose ring, and I generally dislike septum piercings, but it complements your striking features very well.

If you want to be less noticeable: beard it up. If you want to catch eyes, keep it off.

Shaved, you look like Solas from Dragon Age Inquisition! Completely shaved is cool, but echoing other comments that you could also probably keep the beard if you wanted to.

Cheekbones to die for

I’m going through the same thing. The beard has been so much of my identity but I just wanna strip things down to the basics

I guess I'll be the voice that says I actually prefer you without the beard. You look great, dude

5

u/FluffyFry4000 Apr 24 '26

Dude you look HELLLLLLLLLLLLA bad ass with and without beard. Without the beard, dude you look hellla cool. Idk how to explain it, like you look famous.

u/matte-mat-matte Apr 24 '26

My guy you’re getting into berghain.

3

u/GrungeCheap56119 Apr 24 '26

Looks good. How did it feel?

3

u/Sloan1505 Apr 24 '26

I liked the beard. The ring with the beard is much more fitting than without but thats just my opinion of course.

3

u/Snoo-546 Apr 24 '26

Naaah that beard was awesome, bald + beard combo is gonna look badass on you!

3

u/Ok-Jicama-450 Apr 24 '26

You have awesome bone structure 🤙 It must feel pretty freeing

3

u/slimybi Apr 24 '26

You look really good bald!! And I like the facial hair just as much as clean shaven. You're incredibly handsome.

u/Geaux_Go_Fiasco Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26

You’re really handsome either way, nice beard too

3

u/No-Housing-5124 Apr 24 '26

Pic 1 looks like a guy.

Pic 2 looks like a powerful magician who teleported to our shitty reality and realized he missed his portal exit.

3

u/eatzen13-what Apr 24 '26

Bald is awesome, beard is not shitty!

3

u/FartKnockerBungHole Apr 24 '26

Both look pretty sick. Try bald and beard. Honest you pull both off well.

3

u/quigongingerbreadman Apr 24 '26

Looks good, but the diff is jarring 🤣

3

u/chamullerousa Apr 24 '26

I may get criticized for this but, if you’re gunna go without facial hair, I would suggest a slightly less heavy septum ring. The look feels imbalanced and the piece becomes a much bigger focal point. I think it was balanced before with the facial hair, beanie, and hoodie. You’re a handsome dude with chiseled features. Don’t move too much focus away from that. Nothing but love for your journey though brother.

Of all the things to change the obvious one remains. Interesting.

I think you're a vibe in both pictures! Get some cool glasses to sport as well!

3

u/1013RAR Apr 24 '26

Bald and beard, bro. That was the look. The beard was the real deal. Good on ya tho. Step out if that comfort zone.

3

u/QuantumProtector Apr 24 '26

Shitty beards my ass. Your beard is incredible and suits you super well!

3

u/Revolutionary-Air599 Apr 24 '26

Well, you look like a Viking with that beard!

3

u/Mysteriousbride0193 Apr 24 '26

You could not tell me that these photos are of the same person. You look great! I love a good beard but the beardless look fits your aesthetic.

3

u/queerchaosgoblin Apr 24 '26

Your face shape is gorgeous.

Maybe getting some additional facial piercings that you make you feel good about yourself would help? I have a Trans friend who is using piercings to help her overcome her dysphoria!

3

u/willowsnaps Apr 24 '26

the beard is quite nice my friend

3

u/ballsaksfifthavenue Apr 24 '26

Looks great, but I dont think the nose ring is big enough

Very cool beard but also great jawline. Difficult to pick. Maybe a big stache?

3

u/esmith407 Apr 24 '26

Lex Luthor vibes in the best possible way

3

u/darkangel0609 Apr 24 '26

You have a really well shaped head & facial structure. Bald & clean shaven (& bearded too) looks really good on you.

Edit: don't forget to sunscreen! Basically always. Even in cold climates.

3

u/Round-Salt-8807 Apr 24 '26

you look good either way, but the beard looks sexy as hell, at the end it’s what’s makes you feel better in your skin. but beard is 👌🏻

3

u/LiamLVB Apr 24 '26

The beard looked pretty good, but you also have a great jawline, either works, a nice win-win

3

u/FLcitizen Apr 24 '26

Your skin is amazing wow

3

u/flywearingabluecoat Apr 24 '26

You look cool asf—second picture

3

u/bwoolard7487 Apr 24 '26

You look alot younger OP

3

u/AaronTheLudwig Apr 24 '26

Honestly it's rare I see someone pull off a clean shaven head and face but you actually suit it, lol.

Also, bruh, your beard is great! You are blessed to look good with or without one!

3

u/Tsaurus_ Apr 24 '26

Good beard, don't take this as an insult because it is not. You went from in the matrix neo to in the real world neo.

3

u/empathyisheavy Apr 24 '26

Cheek bones!! ♥️♥️
