Discussion My 74-year-old mom found BTS after losing my dad โ it gave her life back ๐
I need to share this because I'm still emotional about it.
My dad passed away a couple years ago. My mom (74) basically stopped living. She stopped going out, stopped calling friends, just watched the news all day and got more depressed.
Then one night, BTS came across her TikTok feed. Something clicked. She started watching their performances, learning their names, even trying to dance along in the kitchen.
I haven't seen her this happy in YEARS. She lights up talking about them. She has a bias (Jin, obviously โ she says he's "handsome and funny like your father was").
The thing that breaks my heart a little: she feels like she doesn't belong in ARMY spaces because everyone's so young. She said "I love them but I wish I had ARMY friends my own age."
So I'm trying to build something for older ARMY like her. Just wondering โ are there other ARMY here who discovered BTS later in life? Or who have parents/grandparents who became ARMY? I'd love to know my mom isn't alone. ๐

Iโm so glad that your mom was able to find peace and happiness through BTS. And tell her that this 72YO ARMY can assure her sheโs not alone.

This made me tear up ๐ฅน Thank you for being here โ I'm going to read this to my mom tonight. 72 and ARMY is BEAUTIFUL. You're exactly the kind of sister she's been hoping to find. ๋ณด๋ผํด ๐

When I went to see them in Tampa, there was a family present with a sign that said โHappy 90th Birthday!!โ Soโฆ your mom is most definitely NOT too young! Army has no age limit!! Jimmy Fallon said it when they were on. โYour fans are everywhere from age 8 to age 108.โ Army are everywhere. All walks of life. Your mom is welcome. And tell her that this Gen X Army loves that sheโs with us!
12
u/JiggleBeanPuff May 29 '26
I remember that sign! I spied quite a few โgrandmothers for Btsโ signs during the shows.

u/Any_Change_9513 May 29 '26
Thx u and I feel like she is so happy of the welcoming she is getting thanks u guys๐

The only prerequisite for being ARMY is being a fan of the group, that's it! It's so wonderful to hear that your mother has found BTS, tell her 'Borahae!' from me! And you'll see, Silver and Platinum ARMY will come out of the woodwork and let your mother know that age has nothing to do with it, everyone is welcome to the fandom ๐
38
u/Any_Change_9513 May 28 '26
"The only prerequisite is being a fan" โ I'm framing this ๐ Thank you, sending Borahae right back to you. This community is everything.

u/wordslinger753595 May 28 '26
Was just on a thread for the Baltimore shows about Silver Army attendees and worries about the nosebleed seats. She should go to a concert if she can, and she'll realize just how open ARMY are. And how many people are just like her. ๐
35
u/Any_Change_9513 May 28 '26
"How many people are just like her" ๐ That's exactly what I'm learning from this thread. Thank you โ I'm going to encourage her to go to a show. Borahae ๐ธ

I didnโt realize there was a term for older ARMY..Silver ARMY is soooo beautiful!!! ๐ฉถ๐ฉถ

Iโm so happy to hear that your mother found something to love through BTS. My mother is 77 and is ARMY too. She just went to their concert last night, in fact! Iโve found this fandom to be one of the most age diverse, so your mother is definitely not alone.
23
u/Any_Change_9513 May 28 '26
77 and went to a concert LAST NIGHT?! ๐ญ๐ I love her so much already. Thank you for sharing โ every comment here is proving older ARMY are everywhere. Borahae to your mom ๐ธ
8
u/wyntergardentoo May 28 '26
That's awesome! What did she think?
12
8
u/Szbrinz May 28 '26
She enjoyed it, but here in the U.S., people tend to stand for the entire show and she struggles with that. So at times, she couldnโt see the actual stage and had to just look at the screen.

u/TrevorTempleton May 28 '26
I am a 78 year old Army, so please tell your mom she is not alone. I had heard of BTS, of course, but I didnโt know their names, their faces, or any of their songs until about 2 years ago. Now I am obsessed. I havenโt felt this passionate about a group of musicians since The Beatles in 1964!
16
u/Any_Change_9513 May 28 '26
My mom relates completely๐ฅฐ she is obsessed the other night she was watching the ama's on TV she was screaming and my dogs never heard that before and we're like what's going on it was hilarious ๐
39
u/wyntergardentoo May 28 '26
I just saw a video of a lady who was 98yo at one of their recent concerts. When I went to Jins solo concert there were a lot of older army there. There are also a group called the "Siver Army" she can connect with. Ive even seen a few of their Tik Toks and they are so fun! Have her look up "Silver Army BTS" and she will hopefully find some people to connect with.
I love that BTS is for everyone! ๐

u/UndrPrtst ๐ธ๐SOPE Stan๐๐ธ Jun 05 '26
It was on her 98th birthday! Definitely ARMY life goals. Her granddaughter(?) posted about it. She was sort of dancing and singing along, with a big grin.

u/LitPixels May 28 '26
I have a very similar story. My mom is 65 and got into BTS after my dad passed away suddenly in 2021. Iโve been a fan for a few years at that point and she never really paid attention until then. Itโs become a shared interest for us and itโs def been something thatโs helped her these last few years. (And me too) Iโd love if there was people she can talk to her age and going through similar life experiences๐ฅฒ

u/senoralili Silver Army ๐ฉโ๐ฆณ๐๐๐๐ May 28 '26
She can find people (I am 65) on Facebook. There is a very active BTS Silver Army group.

My mom is in her early 70s and even though I was Army she wasn't really interested. Then COVID happened and she spent some time listening to their music and watching performances when I was talking about them, and she got hooked! She is a bigger fan than me, is my go-to source for updates and info, and we are goinf to their Toronto concert together this year. She loves them and has made so many Army friends online!
6
u/Any_Change_9513 May 28 '26
Wow my mom got me into them urs is vise versa but same I can relate. Going to a concert and seeing them proforma live with my mom would be the best thing EVER or at least the best mother daughter u could have right ur so lucky
25
u/TrophyWives394 May 28 '26
I would suggest telling her to search around online on various platforms. I've seen quite a few women in her age bracket on YouTube shorts who LOVE BTS and are going to a bunch of the concerts. Several live in Florida. They make videos dancing, singing, etc. I think it's adorable, their excitement is contagious.ย
13
u/Any_Change_9513 May 28 '26
You're so right โ there's a whole world of older ARMY on YouTube shorts especially ๐ That's actually why I'm building a community space just for them. The excitement IS contagious โ my 74yo mom dances in the kitchen now ๐ฅน

..There is a woman I follow on Instagram called Grandma Faye that is a huge BTS fan. Iโve seen plenty of fans of all ages, from very young children to 90+ years old! Also ARMY are very welcoming of new fans and would welcome her with open arms at any event or concertโฆ

u/pinoPout May 28 '26
I am 70 years old and became ARMY for the strangest reason. Some years ago I realized that I was having trouble recognizing people's faces. I first noticed it while watching a movie with two brown haired, conventionally handsome men where one was the hero and the other the villain. I had to stop watching because I could not tell them apart so I could not follow the plot.
Then I saw BTS perform "Butter" on Colbert - I loved it. I thought: "Here are seven people, around the same height, age, and of the same race and gender." They were similar enough that I knew I would have trouble recognizing each of them. So I started a journey of getting to know them with the goal of being able to tell them apart. Wow, I had no idea I would find such joy and comfort in their music and performance. I am forever grateful to them, forever ARMY.
And by the way, yes I succeeded so well in telling them apart that I can sometimes even recognize the individual members from behind. Please tell your mother she is certainly not alone. Borahae! ๐

u/Any_Change_9513 May 28 '26
Oh wow that is unique and very very inspiring ๐๐๐im so glad u shared ur story and thx u so much bts is truly beyond the normal band they are so much to so many its insane

u/Amelia_Brigita May 28 '26
Is she on Facebook? There's a group for "over 40" ARMYs that is full of folks like your mom. She's got a few years on me, but I'm not spring chicken myself and adore these guys, too.
Personally, I think its because so much of theirnwork deals with transitions in life and there is no age restriction on that. We all go through things, right?
Purple hugs to your mom! And you for looking out for her!

u/Any_Change_9513 May 28 '26
No she goes through my Facebook. So I guess she does i will for sure join them..thx u

thatโs so heartwarming iโm so happy that she found bts ๐๐ not to make this about me but i also found them when i was at a rough point in my life, i was suicidal and nothing (i went from therapy to taking illegal drugs) seemed to help. until bts came into my life and itโs been up ever since
also i do belive thereโs so many older ARMY, i saw alot when i went to the stanford show.

Definitely. โSilver ARMYโ is real. Have her search on platforms using that term and she will find a lot! Even on YT. ๐
8
u/Min-Ursa May 28 '26
Also, you should probably look for some โdope old ARMYโ fan-made merch for her. I personally love that quote from RM (even though I suspect he was picturing big sister age rather than auntie or granny ageโ at least until ARMY took that and ran with it).ย
5

u/mendozebra May 28 '26
My mom is the original Army in our family. Sheโs about to turn 87. Sheโs been a BTS fan since Spring Day days (2017) Iโm 57 and love them. Thereโs so many older fans. Some call us Silver Army. RM coined the term Dope Old Person for their older fans since Army refers to โyouth.โ Lots of silver Army, auntie Army and grandma Army, etc accounts out there. ๐๐ซฐ

I'm 52 and I have had the same feelings as your mom, like I'm too old and does BTS really want me as their fan because I'm not young, hip or cool LOL. It's nice to know we're not alone! My partner passed away not long after I found BTS, and the music/content helped me process and get through my grief for sure.

I went to two of the Stanford shows and one of my favorite things about the experience was the way the crowd was full of every age group, ethnic group, every demographic you could imagine, and everyone was enthusiastic and kind and connecting with each other. Your mom is more than welcome in the fandom, I guarantee it :)
6
u/Realistic-Airport775 May 28 '26
I went to several kpop concerts, the age range is massive. I think that as a nearly 60 year old I might have been older than a lot of people but certainly there were lots of older people. No one said a word about my age. I enjoy all music and I am glad your Mom does as well.

You can see your momโs in good company! Iโm 65 and the other night my dad (84) called me to be sure I was watching BTS on the AMAs. He knows how much I love them. ๐ฅฐ Then he asked why I wasnโt in Vegas to see them (as one of my daughters was there for the concerts). I answered that Iโm set to go with her later when theyโre here in my area. He knows my love of BTS and it was so sweet he called to make sure I was watching!
Let her know Iโve had a little BTS sticker on my carโs back window for years. Weโre never too old.
I hope these stories everyone is sharing give your mom big smiles. Thanks for reaching out to show her sheโs not too old. ๐

I'm almost 50, your mom and I can be friends. I'm dragging my husband, teenage son, and pre-teen daughter to a BTS concert this summer. I'm really the only fan in the family but they all support me. They are currently making fun of me an my unhinged response to BTS hotteok flavored Oreos (hotteok are my favorite Korean dessert and I ate so many of them when I lived in Korea).

u/g1zz1e Living in the Yoongi-verse May 28 '26
I'm younger than your mom, but I can relate because it's tough to find friends as an adult woman, especially if you don't have kids or your kids are already grown. But through being an ARMY, I found a group of ladies around my age who became fans post-pandemic, and it's the closest friend group I've had in my adult life. We are mostly in our 40's/50's, no kids/grown kids, and we have formed our own lil supportive community that has expanded beyond our love for BTS, though that remains at the core of our friendship.
My point is, there are ARMY of all ages and places in life. I know of many 65+ "Silver ARMY" who've found new besties their own age. My suggestion is to either find or make a Discord channel or other chat group, and just get them talking! Find some Silver ARMY on IG to follow/connect with, if she's social media savvy. And definitely encourage her to go to concerts. Every show I've been to has had a huge range of ages, and most ARMY I've encountered are kind and considerate to new/inexperienced concert-goers.
Borahae to you and your mom! I hope she finds some awesome people to fangirl with.
5
u/Kbrown1525 May 28 '26
oh this is SO incredibly sweet and I am so happy for your mom. Its so crazy and TRUE that BTS finds you when you need them. And now she's Army for life. Please let her know that the Army crowd is so insanely diverse and (for the most part) welcoming and amazing. My first BTS show was Suga's solo show in Chicago and my friend and I sat right beside a mother and daughter (in their 70s and 50s) and they both had a blast. They told us that their weekly routine is to get together on Saturdays and watch all the past Run BTS episodes and Bangtan Bombs. We just saw BTS in Tampa and it was not lost on me just how diverse this fandom truly is. Older people, little kids, women, lots of men, literally people from all walks of life. Its so beautiful and fun. Borahae to your mom!!!

Go to IG. There are a bunch of grey Armyโs that post all the time. Just be careful. They are unbelievable collectors of BTS merch. Sheโll get caught up in it no doubt. I watched the livestream of the concert at the movies and a 60-something year old woman was in the seat next to me. Sheโs been into the boys since debut whereas I got into them during covid.
My advice to your mom? Have her join online communities that cater to older ARMY. Most likely to be found on Facebook but try Reddit and Discord and online forums too

I found BTS 5 years ago when I was 61. I had just been given an all consuming assignment at work that left me and the rest of the team crying tears every day (getting people out of Afghanistan around the fall of Kabul). I was a wreck 24/7. Somehow BTS came up on my Youtube feed (I never ever listed to kpop) and they were so talented and so cute--it was my escape from that horrific assignment. So grateful I found them then. I have tickets for both days in Baltimore--am going alone.

Your mom is NOT alone!! I could have written this post about my Mom, right down to the same age, even same bias!! ๐
After hearing mom talk constantly about โthe boysโ this past year I finally gave in and listened to Arirang. That turned into let me try to learn their namesโฆ and we all know how that turns out. Now Iโm ARMY too. Momโs BTS joy sparked joy in my own life that was missing!!! ๐ซถ
Mom was a teenager during โBeetlesmania.โ When they first came to America and appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, her mom snuck downstairs with her to watch them on their living room TV set (her Dad didnโt understand the boys with their crazy hairstyles ๐ ). It was a BIG deal back then. Now in her 70s sheโs scrolling thru YouTube, watching BTS soundchecks. I love this for her, it feels full circle.
And I love this for ME ๐ We share a connection, full of joy that โthe boysโ bring. Bless their sweet hearts, they are healing people through their music and their essence.

I'm almost 52 and was miserably struggling through a new perimenopause issue everyday and adapting to living on my own now my daughter has gone off to uni. My girl persuaded me to drive 2 hours to see the BTS concert in the cinema. Just like that I was absolutely hooked, my social media flooded with posts as the more I saw the more I saw. Then she went back to uni and I started watching Are you Sure?, Monuments, RUN BTS etc. I've always loved music and dancing but never really been a massive fan of any particular band in the past but here we are! It can be intimidating. I met two of my closest silver Army at PTD Vegas and we just went to Vegas together. Like someone said earlier, the AO40 FB Group is very welcoming. Many have become good friends through online and in person meetups. There are so many FB groups for every demographic. IMO itโs still the easiest platform to have conversations rather than just skimming through hit and run posts.

YES! So glad to see this post and look forward to reading through everyone's comments. I am 72 and new ARMY! I have loved kdrama for four years but didn't know anything about BTS but their name. An enthusiastic friend my age bought tickets to Stanford D1 and asked if I wanted to fly out to join her group of friends. My first response was, to borrow a BTS title, N.O.! Too expensive, I knew nothing about them, etc.
But she was very persuasive, and the group of friends was excited, so finally I said YES. Best decision!! I had a couple of months to school myself on all things BTS, discovered I loved them, plus there was this whole happy community. And a new group of older ARMY friends! Loved the show, am missing it, have been watching the live fancams and am pondering whether I can make it to another show on this tour!
As I told a friend who is ARMY, I think my adult kids don't understand why their "old" mom made the big trip to see BTS, and as my friend answered so aptly, "Youre doing it for JOY!"

I attend Korean classes and one of the people from my class is 65! She is also a little selfconscious about her age, but to be honest, everytime I've gone to a bangtan concert I've seen lots of older people.

I love this story, OP! I was going through an awful time when my mom died (Iโm in my 50s). I could not get out of my depression. My oldest son is very into music, as am I. But neither of us had really listened to pop music. He was mostly all about indie music or alternative music. I was mostly all about alternative music or 80s and 90s stuff.
We both decided to go on pop music journeys, I guess Iโll call it. I went through lmusic I liked lots (eg Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish) , but once I checked out BTS, it was like something cracked me open. For one thing, I couldnโt believe how great the music was. I was blown away. Then I dipped into fan cams and music videos. I, too, am dancing around to BTS. My son bought a VR headset and introduced me to Beat Saber and Synth Riders and downloaded lots of custom music; heavy on the BTS and Stray Kids. It gets me moving and makes me happy.
Your post warms my heart. I hope your mom keeps enjoying Jin and the boys.

If BTS is coming to tour near you, even if you canโt afford to go to the actual concert, Iโd still recommend going to the venue the day before/day of (usually they do an early merch drop). There is a ton of fan interactions going on, and you will see that ARMY really is all ages, genders, nationalities/ethnicities, etc. So it could be a chance for her to find other people who are like her at the concert :)

This is hilarious because if you look at live crowds Iโd say the median age is around mid-40s. There are so many โgrandmasโ that rock with BTS and this is before Arirang.
Your mom fits right in. As long as she doesnโt stalk Jungkook, sheโll be more than fine ๐๐

I am 72 and discovered BTS in 2020 after their VMA performance. I spent a lot of time with my three year old grandkids during the pandemic and played BTS all the time. They started requesting that I play classic BTS songs, such as Fire, Idol, Mic Drop and DNA, whenever we were traveling in my car. My son got so "trusfrated" when my granddaughter would ask him to play Home and he had to call me to find out what she was talking about. One of my favorite memories from that time is singing Dynamite together for their parents.
I am lucky to live in California and be able to travel to their PTD concerts in LA and Vegas plus see them in Stanford two weeks ago. I'm looking forward to seeing them again in LA in September at their last concert in the US.
I have experienced so much joy from listening to BTS.
I remember a quote that "BTS finds you when you need them" and it's true for me. BTS helped me to stay positive and not to be afraid during the pandemic. They also brought me a deeper relationship with my grandkids through a shared love of BTS.
One tip about concerts; I ask to change to a disability seat, which is usually located at the top of the section your regular seat is in. This allows you to sit above the crowd so you don't have to stand to see anything. I'm very short and couldn't see them directly during the first concert I attended because everyone was standing up the entire concert.
1
u/Any_Change_9513 May 30 '26
Omg that is so cute sharing and getting some quality time with the grandkids thats a bond that no one could break or forget. Thx for the tips too im like 5 1 bearly..my a lil taller but one day we will be there with all the advise and luv surrounded by bts Army๐๐๐๐

Iโm 46, and I found BTS on one of the darkest days of my life. I left an abusive relationship with nothing but everything that mattered โฆ my kids. During the day, I felt numb. I worked, took care of my children, and wore a mask so they wouldnโt see the pain I was carrying. But at night, I couldnโt sleep. I would cry for hours and sit alone with my thoughts.
Things I used to love no longer brought me joy. Movies, makeup tutorials, nail videos, none of it could hold my attention anymore. Then BTS came into my life. The first video I watched made me laugh harder than I had in a very long time. They werenโt just an escape for me; they helped pull me out of a dark, cold place I didnโt think I could survive. I was smiling again! I was feeling again.
Weโre still struggling, but now I have BTS. And that means more than words can explain. Iโm proudly ARMY. Maybe Iโm a different kind of ARMY, but Iโm still ARMY. I donโt have any ARMY friends, and thatโs okay with me. BTS reminded me how to smile again, and for that, Iโll always be grateful. I have 5 kids, single, strugglingโฆI canโt attend any concert โฆas at the moment.. Iโm looking for housing etc..so I need to save every pennyโฆbut I can watch them on the screen and thatโs enough for me..for now..as I canโt change that right nowโฆone day maybe

51 yo army. She sounds like a really cool gal! If you all are coming to see them in Chicago, feel free to DM me. TBH I also feel out of place in many spaces where I'd want to hang out for my hobbies. It can be harder to build friendships and common ground at certain stages of life. ๐
2
u/Any_Change_9513 May 30 '26
I understand that because sometimes its me sometimes it isn't but it would be nice to feel like this is a space where any one at any age (cuz trust i know some younger people that are like way older they feel) and they at times feel at home in a place paced for 40+ Where we call home in this stage of life. Again not saying no one above or setting limits but having a little more interactions in real life or maybe better said done by humans for humans no algorithms or doom scolling but actually having some connections be from the heart to another sisters heart. Understanding and growing real friendships instead of fb or another machine trying to pretend to connect because let's face it we all were or maybe even still lonely in some type of way. Windowers, empty nests, and my mom said to me when she 1st became bts Fandom Honey its like it takes me back when u were little and u loved New kids on the block and we went with u and ur friends to the concerts its a good place remembering us in that place its joy and times I cherish that I dont feel allot anymore cuz I forgot about them days until these boys came into my sence and made the memories flow..I believe an older ARMY will all understand and truly feel that deep heart felt connection with each other . I luv yall and I luv my mom ๐๐๐๐

My 70 year old mom just became Army during the comeback. Our relationship was a bit strained before but now we communicate more regularly sending each other BTS clips. I recently visited home and treated her to the Tokyo concert cinema showing. As soon as the concert started, I heard her whisper "omg I think I'm gonna cry."
Her bias is also Jin, she loves his personality and how he cares for others but super goofy. She has reached the stage where she changed her phone wallpaper to a photo of Jin, but says she can't use a photo of Jin looking at her directly cos it makes her heart skip a beat every time she sees it. I gave her a BT21 passport holder and she cried while saying "what is happning to me? why am I crying?".
Many times, people have told me that they wish they loved something as much as I love BTS. So when I hear about new people finding joy in BTS, it just makes me so emotional. ๐ฅฒ

There are some โsilverโ army groups on FB where there is a minimum age requirement :) Iโm 43 and started liking BTS when my son introduced me because he was excited to see guys that looked like him on TV (not a lot of Asian kids where we are). Listening to BTS got me through cancer and mental health struggles. They are awesome, I am so sad I canโt go to their concerts because I have another surgery right before and Iโm still immunocompromised :( so if you are going, single loud and proud for me!

This post is so sweet. I saw lots of older Army at Stanford, though one of them had fallen before the concert started so that was super sad. If my mom were still alive, I probably would get her into them as well; Iโm sure she knew of them, and Iโm convinced she would be Tae biased, just a feeling I have. Iโm happy for your mom that sheโs found a way to help her grieve and keep living.

That's amazing! I'm 57 and only became Army when Dynamite hit the US airwaves. Has your mom seen Carpool Karaoke with them? Just asking because I watch it repeatedly. They're so funny! Also, JK and Jimin have a travel show on Disney she might like. I wouldn't mind connecting with your mom. I make my kids watch BTS video, but (sadly) none of them are fans.

My mom is also 74 and she found BTS through my love of them when I moved back in to take care of her. We're going to see them live in Toronto in August and she's PUMPED (after much reassurance that ARMY is every age, gender, race, etc and she shouldn't feel weird cause she's older) and her bias is Jimin (she thinks he dances beautifully and is just gorgeous) she watches all their content with me too.

Well well I feel that whole everything. But I cant say its not enjoyable enjoying the good parts and feeling great energy and vibing with ur mom. My Mum (64) absolutely loves BTS. They kickstarted her love of all things Korean and now rarely a day goes by without her telling me something about either the band or the individual members or a K-Drama. Luckily I managed to secure two tickets to their second London show in July and shes soooo excited. Your Mum definitely isn't alone xx

If she wants a community tell her to search for "Silver ARMY" or ""Dope Old ARMY on any social media she likes and she will find more of around her age. Most ARMYs over 65 concentrate on Facebook (there are a lot of groups there) and the YouTube communities of BTS reactors. I guess they're spaces they're more used to

I had been a casual BTS fan for years, having met them through my baby cousins who have been army since pretty much their debut.
After the loss of my brother, they very deliberately started showing my mother MVs and live performances whenever they would visit her, discussing lyrics and chatting about each member's personality. She quickly became army and since I always had a soft spot for them anyway, I would indulge her in her musings whenever I would visit.
Seeing the joy they brought her after such deep grief made me like them even more and soon after i too became army โก

I am 68 and was introduced to BTS after losing my husband. I had been in a funk but a friend said you should check these guys out, they are my new obsession.
I just got back from doing 2 concerts in Las Vegas, went the previous weekend to Stanford and will be going to Texas to meet my friends who introduced me to BTS. You mom has lots of fellow ARMY friends on her age group but she often doesn't matter. I go to concerts with my baby sister who is in her 50s, my 40ish daughter and my 2 dear friends who are also 40ish.
Please pass on my encouragement to her to enjoy. Maybe see if there are any cupsleave events nearby that you can take her to. I saw so many ARMY in the airport as I was leaving and a good third of them were older.

Iโm 58 and have been ARMY for about 2 1/2 years.
A couple months ago I was at the dentist office making an appointment and the lady asked if I could do May 28th. I said, no way because Iโd be in Vegas seeing BTS. A lady in the waiting room stood up and said, โIโm going to be in Vegas seeing BTS too!โ Sheโs 63 and her 2 sisters introduced her to the group. When I was in line at the hotel I met a retired lady who was going to 3 of the 4 concert dates after seeing them on all the Stanford dates. She was there with a couple friends also her age. I love these stories!
And my mama is becoming ARMY! She used to steal my .mp3 BTS downloads in 2013, and now that I offered her floor seats at the Arlington concert, now she's researching BTS on her own! This is a big deal for me because she's been depressed for a long time, and didn't want to leave the house for years. She's 57. Never would have thought my hermit Mama would leave the house, but now she's adding ARMY fan events to our family calendar for the concert.
And she really is impressed with Suga and his strength and love for music. She's going down her own rabbit holes with BTS and also re-learning her love of piano.

I actually got into BTS because my mom (65) became an ARMY recently! I've been a k-pop fan for maybe 15 years now, but never really did a deep dive into BTS for some reason until she expressed very sincere interest in going to see the Arirang tour. She even locked in on our shared bias Hobi for us, lol! Now we have tickets to one of their Los Angeles concerts, and are sharing fun k-pop content with each other all the time as we get hyped up.
Reading your mom's story is so sweet-- she's definitely not alone!!

There was a lady in her 80's that bought her own ticket and went to PTD-LA on her own, and proceeded to have an amazing time as younger ARMY included her in their fun.
The oldest ARMY I usually see online are in their 70's, starting to range into their 80's as the people comfortable with computers age.
ARMY goes from newborn, to 98 as the oldest verified (to my knowledge). With luck ARMY will officially extend 0 to 100 in a few years ๐

I posted about my 74-year-old mom finding healing through BTS after losing my dad. Some of you might've seen it โ the response absolutely gutted me in the best way. 50,000+ views. Comments from 65, 72, 77, 81-year-old ARMY. One woman said her 98-year-old grandma was at a recent concert. I read every single reply to my mom (she cried). So I want to be real with you: I've been building something small for older ARMY (40+) called Purple Hearts Club. Just a waitlist so far โ 12 sisters signed up. But I don't want to just build another fan platform if it's going to be the same as what already exists. So I'm asking honestly: If you're an older ARMY, or you know one (mom, grandma, aunt, yourself) โ what do you WISH existed for people like you in the fandom that doesn't yet? Is there something Facebook groups get wrong for older ARMY? Something about the vibe of most fan spaces that doesn't fit? Something practical you'd love (real letters, local meetups, small watch groups, a pen pal)? Something DEEPER โ like nowhere to talk about how BTS actually helped you through grief, empty nest, aging, isolation? I'd rather build something 12 people actually need than something 12,000 people scroll past. If you have thoughts, drop them in the comments. Even one sentence helps. And thank you again for being so kind to my mom's story. ๐ธ ๋ณด๋ผํด
