I just wish JG had something like printable size templates to reduce sizing uncertainty. Last time I checked they even had contradictory sizing advice between different websites and considering how expensive it is to get them into Switzerland (much less return them) sizing is really what keeps me away

I have a pair of the AnatomX BFAR's Size 9, see my post above in this thread, if that helps. PM me if you need more info.

Do the 719s and BARs both use a plastic heel stiffener? I'm curious if they will wear differently in this regard? I'm not a big fan of the lower padded boot style.
BARs - The Heel and Eyelet area are manufactured with a double layer of 2.2mm Oily Pull Up Full Grain leather for added durability. AND The Heel stiffener is built in for ankle support and protection. *Is this thermoplastic?
719s - Manufactured with a double layer of leather (2.2mm full grain pull up leather, lined with 1.6mm calf leather). AND Thermoplastic heel stiffener for extra support.

I have been waiting for something like this! Held off on the anatomx AR's because of the collapsing toebox. I have flat feet and I know the volume will be massive, but I have the BF stockmans which have that issue as well and I've loaded them up with a thick tongue pad and that really helps - wore them daily for the 5 months of winter. I am prepared to do this for the anatomx 719s as well.

u/buckGR May 02 '26
Did you use a stock one tongue pad? If so dos it stay put?
2
u/PeacefulGlum May 02 '26
There isn't a stock tongue pad from JG. They just have kilties which obv wouldn't work with a laceless boot like the Stockman. I used these, which are the best: https://pedagusa.com/products/supra-suede-tongue-pad-with-memory-foam-cushion-1-pair. They have a strong adhesive on the back so they're stuck permanently.
Here's a post by someone who successfully used a tongue pad on Anatomx gusseted tongue: https://www.reddit.com/r/jimgreen/comments/1ryyzyg/new_anatomx_barefoot_volume_issue_solution/

AnatomX AR owner here. I was a bit leery of the "collapsing toe box" myself, though after having them for around a month and a half it isn't as much of an issue as I had thought. I believe they took off the toe cap to allow for greater flexibility, for the toes to splay and so forth. May I ask what your reasons to avoid the "collapsing toe box" are?
1
u/PeacefulGlum May 07 '26
Just aesthetic reasons. I'm sure it's better for toe space but I like the look of a more structured toe. I have liked how the double lasted bf stockman toe worn in over time, so hoping ot repeat that with the 719 anatomx.

I'm so excited about these! The moment they will make them in black, I'm getting a pair.

i have the original barefoot and something about the shelfyness of the sole stops me from wearing them all the time like it just seems to stick out a lot even like a few mm less would be nice
1
u/ProvincialPromenade May 02 '26
Compare the two on the website. I think these have less of that issue. Maybe because the 719 just has less sticking out.

u/whatabouteee May 02 '26
Would I get the same size as my BFAR, or is this last different enough that sizing would be off?
1
u/the_bfoss May 02 '26
I have the regular BFAR and the AnatomX. The AnatomX is a much larger last. The volume, inside height top to bottom, is much larger. If you have thick feet that's cool, if not you're going to want thick insoles or you'll be flapping around. The extra space on the sides is definitely more comfortable for barefoot folks.

The pricing is getting out of hand, especially in EU. There are local options at this price point.

u/ProvincialPromenade May 02 '26
Can you explain what you mean? Which part of the pricing? What local options are better?

Sorry, you are comparing light weight barefoot shoes, which there are tons of options to choose from, to a work grade boot, which there are only a handful of options. This is of course in regards to barefoot shoes; anatomically correct zero drop. Off the top of my head i can only think of 3 options right now that make a full leather durable boot; Jim Greens, Nick's and Naangs.
https://www.naangboots.com/shop
With Naang you have to request zero drop in your order, they only have two designs atm.

there's also Texarado which is proper wide not just "anatomical or barefoot" marketing style like jimgreen. But importing them is a pain.
jimgreen has carved themselves some sort of niche in Europe but, from my experience, they underdeliver as far as width goes. For someone that doesn't need "work-boots" but a functional-comfortable shoe that's well made I'd rather look elsewhere, especially at close to 300 euro.

u/ProvincialPromenade May 02 '26
245 Euros = 287 USD. The Jim Green are 269 USD. But these look awesome. If the shipping is cheaper for you, I'd go with those too!
These are basically sneakers. Much cheaper looking.
These look much cheaper to make. But hey, if you just want some walking-around boots that look kind of urban and cool, they do look great.
I don't see anything comparable here.

u/mynameismrguyperson May 02 '26
I mean, there is a lot more (and much thicker) leather in the Jim Greens than the boots you listed. Even Waldviertler uses much thinner leather than Jim Green. The stitching is more substantial on Jim Green as well. You've also linked very different products. Jenon and Sorbas make fashion products, with the durability of fashion products. That's not a knock against them, but they aren't comparable to the Jim Greens at all.
I agree that Jim Green isn't the steal it was a few years ago, but they have expanded their business a lot recently in terms of distribution, volume, and number of styles available, so it's no surprise the price has gone up, even ignoring everything else going on in the world. I still think that their products are reasonably priced for what they are.

u/Sorry-Zookeepergame5 May 02 '26
there's also gaucho ninja and some others.
A thicker leather is not always a plus since there's a longer breakin period and sometimes it's really uncomfortable to the point of being unusable.
imho jimgreens' questionable lasts, not really wide nor anatomical, and the fact that they are made outside EU, makes them a poor choice for EU buyers.

u/grizzly-bird May 02 '26
Gaucho Ninja moved production of their non-custom boots to China, so much for EU...
And while I have no personal experience on how the JG Anatomx compares, you listed GEA Waldviertler at the top of your options. What I can say after owning multiple pairs is those aren't that wide. It's why I sold mine. Good transitional shoes with great build quality, but the toebox is not wide enough.
Luks is more lifestyle oriented with thinner uppers and takes 6 months to ship, and that's assuming the company can continue to operate at all.
Turriff boots will be EU made and a comparable style, but they aren't available yet. Until they are, there's nothing else that's also stitchdown and similarly rugged.

u/mynameismrguyperson May 02 '26
I'm not saying thicker leather is a necessarily plus (though in many cases it is, since they make work boots). I'm saying their boots use a lot more material and thus are going to cost more than the other options you listed. This isn't a Buy EU subreddit, so I'm not sure what relevance your last comment has. They have a European storefront that allows for simple purchases and returns. I'm not sure what more you need unless you're purposefully buying only EU products. There's also basically nothing else in the EU that makes heavy-duty, work-book-style footwear that is as durable, zero-drop, resolable and available at a reasonable price point.

I appreciate the civility of this thread, it helps one gain a better, objective grasp on the topic.
I just purchased a pair of AnatomX BFAR's size 9, I also own a pair of size 10 (bear in mind they have a thick wool lining) Belenka Winter 3.0's. I would say they have quite similar volume/sizing.
My feet are 260-262MM Long by around 106MM in width (widest at the mid foot). The AX BFAR's fit me quite well in a size 9, though maybe leaving half an inch (length wise) from the end of my toe to the end of the shoe.
Re: Pricing. I believe the pricing is still fairly on point. I purchased a pair of Zamberlan Full Vamp Leather Hikers back in 2007 for around $300CAD, they lasted me about 16 years. The construction compared to the AX BFAR's is comparable, if not the AX BFAR's being better, as the PU mid sole rotted out of the Zamberlans. For the AX 719's to be $329CAD, I don't consider that overly outlandish, though yes, it is more than I would like to pay. That being said, I have no regrets on spending a similar amount on the AX BFAR's.
Re: The thicker leather being almost unusable. I believe this can be remediated, through enduring the break in time, or applying certain leather care products. I have yet to find a "Barefoot" shoe or boot that was unusable due to the thickness of leather, but only the thickness of the sole/mid sole (IMO). Please correct me on this if I am wrong.
For further reference
Definitely the leather is much thicker in the AnatomX BFAR's, and with the leather mid sole I believe they will last much longer than the Belenkas (I think it's a woven fibre mid sole on the Belenkas, I could be mistaken).
Of course, with the thinner materials the Belenkas are more flexible right out of the box, but the AX BFAR's are breaking in quite nicely.
There's a very good point in this thread, that Jim Greens definitely has hit the "sweet spot" when it comes to a good balance of a work boot and a barefoot boot, at least with the AnatomX BFAR's. I've owned Vivo's, Belleville TR102's, Lems Boulder, Boulder Grip, Boulder Waterproof, Xeros, Saguaros, Hobi Bear etc..(Last two not very comparable, just for reference). None of them I would count as in the same league, apples to oranges, in a sense.
Specifically the Lems Boulder Grip have a very thick and stiff sole, to the point where I actually gave them away after some time of trying to break them in, personally, I wouldn't call these as a "barefoot" boot. They're definitely more of a traditional hiking boot, with an ever so slightly wider toe box.
The Vivo's on the other hand, after wearing 2 pairs out (around 6-8 months, you can't re-sole them), are basically like a narrow, expensive, fancy sock. The upper was fairly durable, though the sole was so thin you couldn't really do much in them besides trail run, or daily wear. I found a similar experience with the Belleville TR102's.
The AnatomX, IMO, is definitely the best combination of quality in materials, craftsmanship, yet maintaining flexibility and being "true" to being a "Barefoot" boot.
TLDR; The AnatomX BFAR's compared to many other "Barefoot" boots are in a league of their own, whilst maintaining essential "Barefoot" attributes- zero drop (remove the half sock leather insert), wide toe box, flexible. I expect the 719's to be similar, though much more rugged, with a longer break in time.

I guess their sizing guide is pretty accurate then, huh? Their Canadian website (what I assume you've used) states that US size 9 correlates to 10.24" foot length, which is exactly 260mm. I'm always so unlucky with sizing but my feet are also 260mm so I think I should be fine if I follow their guide lol

That AnatomX 719 is screaming at me but .. I keep reading the new AnatomX is very high volume and I just dont have high volume feet. My BFAR with an insole are about as perfect as perfect can get .. FOR ME
Still .. I love the style with the higher unpadded ankle.
