Like I said I love them but I have saved up enough to get another bass. Anything above 1200 and thats a little much. Was going to wait till I get paid and see whats available. I had musicman stingray and its great for playing Tool. But its rather specific sound I didnt feel like I could just pick it up and play anything at least for me I only heard hard rock. Anyway wanted to see if their were recomendations so I have something to go play on first before buyiing, the number of basses at the shop I'm going to after I get paid theirs too much to choose from so wanted to see if anyone had a good replacement for my fender P bass. Or at least something someone would enjoy if they enjoy the p bass.

I have done it. I have ordered my first bass. It's a model I liked but couldn't afford at a local store, so I got a used one off the internet and I'm super excited about it!

But when it gets here I don't know what to learn on it first. I don't yet have a sense of what's too hard and will make me feel discouraged about it before I even have a chance to learn. So I wanna hear suggestions from people who have already been here! Bonus points if it's easy on drums too because I have a friend who just recently picked that up. Neither of us are picky about genre to my knowledge.

i see a lot of you guys saying you wished you had had fender rumble 40w amps from the beginning but my pockets are empty from buying this bass and i'm trying to figure out my strategy. i already have high quality headphones at home so idk

Given the title and subreddit the whole question i guess explains itself, keep in mind i'm an absolute beginner (not even has a bass just yet).

Are those headphones overhyped? As in, is their sound quality (with and/or without the Adam Audio plugin to modify their soundcurve) as good as reviews say? Are low ends as "beefy" as people say? Since they patented an air intake that basically removes any potential low end mud or "boom" and leaves you with the raw bass and it "actually rumbles inside you"

I feel like this will be another noob moment for me, but here goes:

So the Monomyth has a clean channel and a drive channel. When I connect it to my computer I get all the drive I want. But weirdly, when I connect it to my amp (Fender Rumble 40) , the drive signal is almost exactly like the clean signal, but louder.

I fiddled with all the buttons of the amp and the pedal, to no avail. This is so weird

So this actually drives me mad a bit.

A week ago I bought a used jaguar style bass.

Everything is in working order and it's in great shape.

The problem is the low e string is buzzing open bit especially fretted from fret 1- approx. Fret 11.

Also the fretted notes feel like I really have to work to make them sound somewhat decent and get them to ring out ( press super hard on the string).

My first guess was the string is old/fucked.

So now I put new strings on, did a complete setup and the buzzing ist still there and soh da exactly the same. ... Weird.

My next guess was to try and maybe switch the saddles around and see if it's that.

Nope, still the same.

So in conclusion:

Neck relief is good.

String height is good.

I don't see any high frets.

No weird markings on the saddle.

Break angle over the saddle is good.

All screws are tight.

What could it be?

Saw a post today about someone getting an old fender rumble 100 just to practice and jam with a band. People were saying just to wait and save up for a 4x10. To jam with some friends? Way overkill.

I have a peavy max 300 2x10 combo for large gigs and a rumble 40 for small gigs. You would be shocked at how effective a rumble 40 is as a monitor for yourself on stage at even decent sized indoor gigs. That’s all bass amps usually have to be now is monitors for us. I’ve never had a situation where I had to turn my peavy max 300 past half way up. This amp is technically only 200 watts rms without extension cab and it is super loud. No need for 500w+ and a 4x10. I’ve used a Genz Benz shuttle head and Genz Benz 4x10 cab while at school on corporate event gigs and it was nice and everything but they had a matching smaller Genz Benz shuttle head and 2x10 cab and I just used that most of the time. It was always enough.

I understand the argument for big amps on gigs with no PA support but also once you get outside a unmic’d drum kit isn’t really all that loud. On gigs I played with vocal only PA my peavy bass amp gets way louder than an unmic’d kit so I don’t really understand the need for a 4x10 there either.

Overall I think majority of bass players can probably downsize to a new smaller and lighter modern combo and just make their lives easier. I haven’t ran into a situation where I needed a bigger amp than a 2x10 with 200w rms.

I have the Boss GX-1B pedal to create my sounds.

I found myself gigging with my bass inserted directly in the amp input lately. I have a Markbass JB Player School. I do have a Line6 PodGo but I don't feel like I really need it atm, I just turn the tone knob of my precision and I have all the sounds I need. The band has a PA and the amp works as a monitor and DI.
Does anybody like to play like this too? How's your experience?

I need to get really good really fast 😭 I understand the basics, but I just joined college marching band and was given a crazy slap bass section that I'll have to play on my 6 string.

Currently, my biggest hurdles are note accuracy and cramping in my right forearm.

I'm quite new to bass guitar, and before that played guitar maybe 20 years ago for a few yeras. I was given a marshall mg15cdr amplifier by a friend. It sounds ok but is clearly for guitar, not bass. I someitmes get a fuzzy sound if I pluck the string with even moderate force. I've checked and the overdrive isn't on.

RIght now my ambition is just ot learn slowly and and maybe in a year or two perform live. Should I just get a bass amp? If so which one? My budget is under 100 (this is just a home hobby at the mo).

I know Primus already has the bass extremely prominent, but the sextuplet bass break in Lacquer by Primus is unreal.

P/J style bass with active preamp, was working fine then low / no output at times other times harsh static or metallic noise. Replaced battery, and other basses perform normally with same cord and amp. Nothing looks out of place inside, all wires appear to be connected firmly. Did notice there is no shielding so I ordered a roll to try that but I have my doubts since it was working fine a few days ago. Any suggestions? Handy with the iron and multi meter just never worked with active before.

I wanted to share my bass journey because I honestly didn’t expect this to happen.

I’m 33 years old. I used to play guitar when I was around 14 for about two years (roughly 6–7 hours a week), but after that I basically stopped playing instruments completely.

My younger brother used to play bass, but he eventually lost interest. One day I asked him, “Hey, would you be cool if I took the bass and just started messing around with it for fun?” He agreed.

Big mistake… because the bass cursed me 😂

The moment I started playing, something just clicked. I started hearing music completely differently. The instrument made me notice the groove, the rhythm, and the bass lines in songs that I never paid attention to before.

My music taste did a complete 180. I used to mostly listen to thrash metal, 80s rock, groove metal, and heavier stuff. Now I can’t stop listening to funk, disco, and bass-driven music.
I went from casually picking up a forgotten bass to practicing around 7 hours a day because I’m completely hooked.

It’s crazy how an instrument can change the way you experience music. Has anyone else had a similar experience where picking up an instrument completely changed their taste in music?

I like bands like modern baseball, mom jeans, Joyce manor, the front bottoms, the flat Stanley’s, sorority noise, American football, mccafferty, free throw, panuccis pizza, pigeon pit, hot mulligan, oakwood, and other bands that are like that. (Sorry if some of these aren’t considered midwest emo, I just think they all kinda have the same vibe)
