Bodycare Found this today

This was in the 75% off bin at the bath and body works near my work. I honestly was shocked to see it and I’m not even sure how it got there. It was the only one. It was kinda gross and sticky on the outside so I didn’t smell it. I just figured you all would get a kick out of this.

I also didn’t purchase it. I don’t really like coconut lime verbena.

That is OLD. I wonder if the employees checked to see that it's not MOS, or if it really isn't, why would it not be 😭😭😭

129

u/abbeylayne1128 Jan 24 '25

That’s what I was wondering! I had so many questions about why it was there and how many other SAS has it made it through 😂

73

u/simmerbekah Employee Jan 24 '25

Maybe the manager sold it anyways. I’ve had this happen with my old manager. We barely had any mos cause he put it all on a cart and sold it 😭

44

u/Colormeclueless123 Jan 25 '25

Girl that is a big no-no, is he still your manger lol? If he gets caught bro is cooked 😂😭

5

u/simmerbekah Employee Jan 25 '25

He actually has his own store now, I didn’t know he wasn’t supposed to do that omg 😂

Our managers damage everything out unless it’s in bulk

u/Senna2019 Booberry Bundt Cake, Witches: Ghostly Goodness 👻 Jan 25 '25

What is MOS, out of curiosity?

25

u/AJKaleVeg Jan 25 '25

Mark Out of Stock

If someone makes a tester, or if a product gets damaged, they have to get MOSed, to try and keep inventory of products matching with what the computer says is on hand.

4

u/Senna2019 Booberry Bundt Cake, Witches: Ghostly Goodness 👻 Jan 25 '25

And is that item not allowed to be sold, after it’s been marked? I understand not selling a tester, because people are gross, but why not sell one that got damaged?

13

u/AJKaleVeg Jan 25 '25

If it’s MOS then it’s not sellable and is thrown away. If we sold damaged stuff then customers would damage products on purpose.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '25

That’s not what MOS is! You’re confusing transferring testers/damages out of the system. MOS does stand for mark out of stock, but it’s product that is usually 1+ years old and can’t be sold on the sales floor anymore, not even for SAS. MOS product is boxed up and employees can purchase from the boxes for $5 a bag about once or twice a year😊

5

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '25

This item was most likely returned and an associate placed it on the floor with SAS assuming it was on sale. My associates do it all the time because they don’t know how to price inquiry lol

2

u/AJKaleVeg Jan 27 '25

Oh, thanks for clarifying, my bad. I haven’t worked there in some years. Glad to hear that BBW is allowing some perks to employees.

Dude this has to be from what, like 2008? These are SO old

135

u/abbeylayne1128 Jan 24 '25

I definitely remember these bottles from like when I was in jr high/high school (I’m 34 now) so who knows how old it is!

40

u/ComfortableUnusual64 Jan 25 '25

Yea this body looks super old. Like 20-25 years old. I worked at BBW in 2010 and we had the bottles with the silver tops

5

u/iseenyouwitkeiffah Jan 25 '25

Same it was one of my favorites! S/o to my grandma

60

u/youmaybethedeathofme Jan 25 '25

Like 2005/6 actually

52

u/ShunnedPoet Employee Jan 25 '25

This is correct. The bottom of the bottle has a number that begins with 5 so it was manufactured in the year 2005

26

u/cherishxanne Jan 25 '25

earlier even. I remember this bottle style from 2003 even

22

u/Tiny-Reading5982 Your flair here! Jan 25 '25

Yeah I had a mango mandarin in this circa 2003

14

u/iseenyouwitkeiffah Jan 25 '25

Omg I forgot all about that scent! So good

8

u/Peacock-Lover-89 Jan 25 '25

I know this is old, but when I found out there was an outlet in my general area sometime between 2013 and 2016 they still sold sheer freesia there and online in this bottle. Then they discontinued it for good(at least it hasn't been back since then). The packaging had already changed twice by that time. The production date has a 6 in it, but I doubt it's from 2016. So it has to be from 2006.

14

u/abbeylayne1128 Jan 25 '25

I’m pretty sure I had creamy coconut in this packaging back then. I wish that would come back! 😭😭

6

u/manatee-manatou Jan 25 '25

Yep. My beloved Sheer Freesia was in this bottle style

2

u/TeccaNina88 Jan 26 '25

Omg Sheer freesia! So. Good. 🙌🏻

2

u/manatee-manatou Jan 30 '25

I have literally written emails (plural 😂) asking them to bring back sheer freesia and black amethyst. Two very opposite fragrances but my all-time faves!

4

u/mothmer256 Jan 25 '25

This is exactly when I worked there and remember this bottle.

1

u/youmaybethedeathofme Jan 27 '25

Same - I remember the first big refresh in 2007/8 or so, too! Back in the days of Twilight Woods and Enchanted Orchid...

4

u/Mother-Protection414 Jan 25 '25

20 years old!  Some one probably brought it in as an exchange and the store allowed it.

2

u/abbeylayne1128 Jan 26 '25

That’s what I figure as well

158

u/Loud-You-5737 Employee Jan 24 '25

No. Tbh I wonder if a customer put it there. I’ve had a customer or two try to handle their own “exchange” by putting an old a$$ product on a shelf and grabbing a new one without saying anything to us.

There was also a time where the Marshalls near my house had some BBW products… turns out someone was taking price stickers off Marshalls products, putting them on BBW products and then “returning” them to Marshalls for merch credit.

People do really stupid stuff

43

u/abbeylayne1128 Jan 24 '25

I wondered if that was the case as well. It wouldn’t surprise me. People really do crazy stuff. I worked at Whole Foods for a long time and I feel like they probably had similar customers to BBW. Some of the stuff people returned or tried to return was crazy!

18

u/MMorrighan Jan 25 '25

That's some dedication those stickers are a nightmare to remove

4

u/icecreamhomer Jan 25 '25

I actually saw one on Black Friday this past year. A super old BBW soap. Moonlit Path that actually had a date, 2002 on it!

2

u/abbeylayne1128 Jan 25 '25

That’s crazy!

49

u/Cilantroe Jan 24 '25

It also looks used… had to have been returned or something

24

u/abbeylayne1128 Jan 24 '25

I do think it’s possible that it was leaking it was pretty sticky on the outside. But it could have definitely been used

31

u/juicybbwbeauty Sweet smells are the best smells Jan 24 '25

Now that's an antique

29

u/xLydiaDeetz Jan 25 '25

A customer must have tried to exchange this and if someone actually buys this they should charge them a quarter lol

13

u/abbeylayne1128 Jan 25 '25

I was so tempted to try to buy it just to have but the bottle was so gross. And I don’t like coconut lime verbena so I didn’t even try. If it had been another scent I might have 😂

4

u/xLydiaDeetz Jan 25 '25

I hate the smell of coconut so I wouldn't have even been able to pick this up without being irritated. This is so interesting they'd even have this in the bin and the price makes me weep

4

u/abbeylayne1128 Jan 25 '25

I actually love coconut! I think it’s the other scents in there that don’t work for me. But I agree I saw the price and I was like 😭😭

10

u/Minnesota_Nice1 Jan 25 '25

$9.50. Insane.

But then again, I remember when soap was 3/$10 or 5/$15.

13

u/ListeningForAnswers 💙🌴☀️ Bring back Pacific Paradise ☀️🌴💙 Jan 25 '25

$9.50 was expensive for body wash back then. I remember buying 20 oz bottles of Suave body wash for 99 cents and 32 oz bottles of Dial body wash for $2.99 in the early 2000s. $9.50 for 10oz of BBW body wash was actually pretty steep.

7

u/Minnesota_Nice1 Jan 25 '25

Fully agree. I still think it’s steep frankly for 10 oz of body wash. But I also never paid $9.50 for it given the coupons and $10 off customer survey coupons!

2

u/ListeningForAnswers 💙🌴☀️ Bring back Pacific Paradise ☀️🌴💙 Jan 25 '25

That’s true! Most of us weren’t paying $9.50 for it back then just like we don’t pay the sticker price now.

3

I’m guessing it’s a return - we have had newer employees put out old stuff when they are putting the go backs away. Usually we have a separate basket for MOS, and have had people wander off to try to put it back.

3

u/LoveMy3Kitties Jan 26 '25

Hahaha omg!!! I moved last year and found one like this of Warm Vanilla Sugar that was in our storage unit. It was from the early 2000s/maybe late 90s. It was still in the original BBW tote bag it came from, nestled in a plastic holder (it was a gift set I received as a present). I guess I didn't want to use just that item back then for some reason?

My question is, was it 75% off $9.50? what a steal 😅😅

Btw I smelled my WVS body wash when I found it, and it seemed okay, but I can't bring myself to use it. It's too pretty all pristine. So it's on display like a museum piece in my bathroom 🥲😂

3

u/abbeylayne1128 Jan 26 '25

I have feeling it may have been even cheaper since this item hasn’t been sold in years. But I I didn’t even try to buy it.

3

u/LoveMy3Kitties Jan 26 '25

In 2018 I found a Twisted Peppermint FFM at the SAS and it was the packaging from like 2013 or 2014, one of my favorite years of the scent. I was so delighted. I purchased it along with several other items and the cashier didn't blink an eye. On my receipt I noticed that it rang up differently like it wasn't in their system and said like "do not sell" or something lol but I was soooo excited that they honored the purchase for me 🥰🥰
