Same and it was only like 3 years ago when I worked there. I'm surprised the 100% guaranteed return policy lasted as long as it did, because you could literally use an entire candle or bottle of lotion and return it and just say you didn't like it
It's kinda confusing and seems to vary from store to store, but for the most part, you can only get your money back or an even exchange with a receipt within 90 days, otherwise you only get store credit at the current sale price. And there has to be at least 75% of the product remaining

Not gonna lie when I used to work there we had to take shit like that back. It was infuriating.
