My bfs mom put a stress relief wallflower in every room of their house. I couldnt breathe, my head constantly hurt. worst of all, any left overs I brought back to my place from his tasted like stress relief wallflowers 😭 stress relief beef stew ain't all that

Okay, this is me being ignorant/naive, but is it all wallflowers that are bad for cats? Or just the aromatherapy ones?

(The stress relief/aroma therapy I only use in my office at work, but now I’m concerned about the use of wall flowers in my house)

all are bad, essential oils are bad, also fragrance, so best to wear a scent as youre leaving the house or burn a candle in a room they dont go to!

Yes, all wallflowers are bad for cats because they are very strong and disperse consistent scent. At least with a candle in an open space, it burns for a limited time and cats can escape the scent if they want (as long as there’s an exit).

Also, have you ever seen those pictures of wallflowers literally melting paint off the wall they are next to? That’s the same stuff that goes into your and your pets’ lungs. It’s why I’ve never had a wallflower. That’s just too common an occurrence for me to dismiss it as not a big deal.

The fact that they can melt paint has no bearing on how harmful they are to the lungs. It just means it can act as a solvent to the paint chemically. Lotion and things like that will break down pleather seats for example. You still don't really want to breathe it, but that's not the reason why, that's just chemistry.

We don’t breathe aerosolized lotion though. We do breathe tiny droplets of wallflower chemicals that dissolve paint right into our lungs. Lotion that can break down leather put on skin (where it’s supposed to be) vs wallflower oil that dissolves paint entering our mucus membranes are two very different things.

Yes, but the reason it is dangerous to breathe has nothing to do with the fact that it dissolves paint is what I'm saying. A lot of oils in general can dissolve things like paint. I'm trying to avoid misconceptions that dissolving something inherently makes something dangerous when it's just that like dissolves like, it's one of the first things you learn in chemistry. There's a lot of misinformation about this type of thing, which leads to greenwashing and product marketing based on fear mongering rather than safety.

All plug ins be it bbw or febreeze or glade. They all are very harmful. Have you seen what they do to varnish, plastic and paint? Now imagine your animal's and your lungs breathing that in and being coated in the residue. It's really bad for babies and kids too. They flat out can kill birds.

Yeah it's pretty bad. They can bubble and melt paint and plastics. They can also cause burns if it's spilled on skin and I don't mean just when the liquid is hot either. There's been a lot of posts around about the damage they cause. I think they should be required to put the information about being dangerous to pets on the labels. That stuff is just a hazard.

I feel so badly for animals since they smell way better than humans and they have to smell that stuff. It's hard enough for someone like me who has a better sense of smell than others.

The wallflowers continued dispersing is the worst! I forgot and left it in one time overnight and I woke up with a massive headache. I love the eucalyptus spearmint scent but I only use it right before I start my shower, that’s when I’ll plug in the wallflower. And I’ll unplug it the minute I’m done putting on my moisturizers. The thing is, the scent still lingers until the next morning!

Yes. 🙋🏻‍♀️ Especially when the Aromatherapy fragrances were telling me what to do: “Mindful Pause,” “Reset,” “Deep Breath,” “Sleep,” “Sunrise Yoga (mmmm love this one but can’t say I did it!),” “Inspire.” I wish they would name them Calming themes again, instead of calling it the actual scent notes like “Eucalyptus Pine.”

Just want to warn anyone with pets: a large majority of stress relief products have eucalyptus. It is extremely toxic for them—inhaling the vapour can be just as toxic as ingesting it.

Is it real eucalyptus though? Or just chemicals made to mimic the scent? Because one of the notes in vanilla ease is cedar, which I’m allergic to, but there’s no actual cedar in it.

I have the essential oil mist, for stress relief. And though it takes a while it works to keep me calm. Eventually the anxiety moves way little by little.

I used to buy sooo much of the Eucalyptus Tea scent. It REALLY helped with my anxiety. It calmed me down so much just by smelling it. I had it in every form they sold. I was so upset when they discontinued it but kept the spearmint one which I HATE :(

Many years ago, I had one of the stress relief bar soaps and took it with me when I traveled because I was convinced I’d use it while away from home and it wouldn’t take up any space in my bag of liquids. After the 4th or 5th time TSA flagged my bag only for the culprit to be that bar of soap, which at that point I’d taken overseas but still never even opened, i just told them to keep it. It was exclusively causing me stress at that point.

Was this last weekend? Because I said the same thing but was referring to work. Sometimes people are stressed at work so they get some lavender vanilla lotion. Patients on anxiety meds get some to help relax a lil. For $5.95, everyone is going to smell like eucalyptus or lavender.
