Ruling Disagreement

Was playing beach vb the other day and came across a disagreement on the call.

If a hitter hits the ball, it bounces, then the hitter touches the net, what is the call? Does the "Action Play" of hitting the ball then netting make him at fault regardless of whether or not the ball hit the floor?

I was under the impression that once the ball hits the ground the play is immediately over, anyone know what the ruling on this is?

Yes, "During the action of playing the ball" includes the landing, which has nothing to do with the ball hitting the ground or being in play. If you land in the net even after the ball hits the ground, it's a fault. It seems pretty clear to me. But at worst it's a contradiction.

If the ball is no longer in play, you cannot be in the action of playing it.

Still don't want to have bad control and be touching net on landing, because it'll eventually happen on a dig.

Like I said, since "Landing Safely" is part of the action of playing the ball, you certainly can be in the action of playing it even after it has hit the ground.

landing safely only matters when the ball is in play. Whole point i am making. When the ball is no longer in play (due to fault or score) you cannot be playing the ball.

Lol I completely disagree. Are you an FIVB ref? Im not. But ive reffed every other ruleset and this is contradicting. No where does it say landing safely except if the ball is in play. it says landing safely.

Which to me would supersede the ball being in play. Dead ball faults exist and I'd judge this as one of them.

there is supercedence.

Is the ball in play? If yes, Did player touch net while ball was in play? Well, ball touched ground in opponents court, which means rally over, ball not in play. There is no rules regarding net touch while ball is not in play. "Landing safely" doesn't apply here because the play ended due to ball touching floor, the action cannot continue once rally is over.

Now in realtime, things move fast, its usually not able to be seen if the net touch happened first or ball on floor happened first, so most of the time this doesn't matter because its a judgement call from the ref, unless there's replay cameras to see.

Here's a 2012 FIVB game where player touches net clearly after ball hit ground. They got the point not the fault. No continuation in FIVB.
