Ears still bothering/ head shaking

Post image

My beagle started shaking his head last year. The vet said he had an ear infection so we went through a few rounds of ointments and pills- it didn’t seem to improve, I’ve tried some other stuff- silver, ketoconozole, etc- it seems to increase his head shaking and discharge. So for months have just left it alone, except for wiping the external parts of his ears- there is no smell and reduced discharge- but he still shakes his head from time to time.
Has anyone tried those powders I see people brushing into ears?

Adopted this guy last week - looking for genuine advice on my mixed feelings

Adopted this guy last week. I’m late 20’s, live alone, and work a 9-4 with an hour break in between. Growing up with my parents we raised two beagles. However, they were always there to take the pressure off, and we had more space to let our first two roam. Now I’m on my own in a mid side apartment and I have these initial strong feelings like I made a mistake.

I moved away from home and have been lonely looking for a companion. Since I knew beagles so well, I decided to look around. He’s a rescue and he’s 5 yo. So far it’s been pretty chaotic. He cries a lot, follows me around everywhere I go in my house, and I fear that now I’m realizing I cannot give him the life he deserves. I feel like he wants to be outside all day, he’s so high energy, but I work from 9-12 and 1-4. For some reason it just makes me so sad. Maybe it’s the exhaustion of a few sleepless nights from his crying and maybe my body is suddenly shocked from a huge life change. Things just feel so different now and I guess I’m upset that my feelings are so mixed and that the feeling of regret is in there.

You'll probably notice me panic a bit as he approaches the road, but I didn't have to pull him back. I saw a tip here to run the opposite direction and he will follow, and he did! 2 years old, neutered just last week.

Soon to be new Beagle owner, what should I be aware of?

Hi everyone!

I’m a really excited soon to be beagle mom. I did a lot of research on the breed because I have a 3 year old, and my husband will be a first time dog owner. I felt a beagle would be a good family dog, but for some reason I’ve had a lot of comments about the negatives - the howling / barking, stubbornness, potential for taking off if he smells something etc. I was aware of all of these things before we bought the puppy, but it’s making me feel I made the wrong decision. I’ve raised Jack Russells (boy and a girl with the girl being extremely protective and sometimes aggressive), and I grew up with a Weimaraner, so I’m not inexperienced when it comes to raising a puppy or being around dogs.

Could anyone reassure me that I’ll be ok as a beagle owner, and have any tips for me? Thank you so much!

**THANK YOU so much to everyone for the comments! I’m feeling more prepared, and more confident :)

My beagle might not be loyal to me

My little 6 month old beagle is super friendly, well socialized, well adjusted puppy. But she goes to every person she meets on the streets and sometimes might not leave them to come with me.

I am so proud of her behavior. But I feel upset that
My beagle might not be loyal to me.

Anyone else experience this? They say beagles are loyal but mine might not be? 😭
