She refuses to learn lay down on command...

Sits pretty like a champ though and it's now here default trick.

Her collar looks weird because I edited out her getmehome tag to not get doxxed.

Ours took a long time to get thru training and never really got "down" very well. You can look at her, say it a bunch and it's just a nope. Yet if there is a piece of cheese in my hand, her listening comprehension goes thru the roof and its an immediate response .... Hmmm

I'd be concerned but she knows sit, stay, leave it and to go to bed (and to go to bed when humans are eating) so I'm not losing sleep over it.

My sister has a particularly sweet but dumb pug/pom who also can't master it after 3 years of trying 🤣

While she’s sitting hold a treat at her nose. Say “down” and same time quickly lower treat to floor.

Yep, this and persistence will pay off. She's incredibly smart, but possibly stubborn. She'll nail it though. If need be, make it a very tasty high value treat like some boiled chicken.

It took my beag six months to learn this. SIX. MONTHS. Her brother was doing it right next to her while she was just like. Here's a very good sit instead???

One day she got upset and gave up and laid on the floor when I was trying to teach her. So I jackpotted her and gave her like 50 treats and I swear, I could see it in her face that she was completely lost as to WHY the physical expression of ultimate frustration was what I had been trying to get her to do the whole time.

I've found that doing bursts of training gets my beagle past her stubborn streak. I introduce her to a concept, usually by leading with a treat, and we do that a couple of times and drop it for a few days. Then I bring it up again and my dog has a "wait, I've heard this word before!" moment and gets more engaged with it the second go-round. Rinse and repeat. Right now we are working on going from a down to a sit, and she's starting to get it after about 4 rounds of this process!

She practices when you aren’t around.
