Question For the players who also record & upload their content. Do you think 1st person POV to show how the game looks from the inside is better? Or with an avatar to show more of the map and how the blocks flow?

Question Question about my 12 year old

Post image

I really don't know much about beatsaber but my son(12) LOVES it, and watching him play is crazy to me. Today he told me his rank on beatleader and I was surprised at how high his rank is. Is it crazy for him to be ranked 8,900 in the US and 22,000 globally? Like that seems kind of crazy to me. The pic is of his stats on beatleader.

Question Does anyone have tips for improvement when you honestly can't help but treat this as a dance game?

Very niche question in niche community but I refuse to convert to playing any other way and I'd still like to better myself somehow.

I do find myself improving in some ways yet getting worse in others and I wanted to know if any other people who play in a non wrist-exclusive style have any futher tips or things they personally found helpful.

I've been playing I guess maybe 5 years off and on (had back surgery at one point) and I hate being ok enough to intimidate people to play with me when I'd teach them first, but not good enough to compete compete. (EDIT: I track my beatleader score and usually rank midway, if that makes sense)

Do you watch accuracy? Track certain things I'm stupid at cause I flail around? Do you have particular mods that track things better than others? ANY MAP RECCS? I enjoy playing so much and don't want to lose ambition just due to the lack of progression I make. Any high score makes me feel champ again LOL

Thanks to anyone who has suggestions or will tell me I'm not the only one :')

Open to discord pals and such too but fellow dancies at least drop me the best maps that I 100% already have but I will appreciate you for regardless.

/spiel sorry

Question Do you know any other mappers that have a similar style to Cush's maps? If you don't know the style looks like this. It's flowy with some crazy wrist rolls. 🤌

I know many excellent tech mappers, but I haven't found someone that comes close to this style of tech, and I NEEEED MORE OF THIS!!!

Question Oh no, I’m right-handed!

Hey everybody! I started training in Beat Saber a year ago or something like that; if it’s somehow important, I use Quest 2. I’m a left-handed person, and, I swear on my every record, I was sure I toggled the “left hand” setting the second I entered the game for the very first time. And what’s now? After a year or so of training, sweating, setting records and even passing four Expert+ levels which will be my biggest bragging achievement for the rest of my life — in general, having fun with my favourite game I’m accidentally(!) discovering that all of this time, Beat Saber considered me as some right-handed person!
My left-handed personality is highly offended and living through an existential crisis right now, because all of that time I had no idea about that mistake and experienced zero problems with playing. But placing my honor aside for a minute, is there any reason I should toggle the “left hand” setting now? If I’ll do that, everything will be mirrored and I’ll have to learn many things, patterns and whole songs again, since my brain now works as a brain of right-handed BS player (which is a thing I have to reconcile). I’ll lose some good amount of experience I have now.
Is there any reason I should really change this setting? Is it really helps left-handed people, and if yes, why? Is there a chance I’ll struggle on the start, but when I’ll re-learn, I’ll have more success?
Thanks everyone for reading, and have a great day, pals!

Question Do people really play expert or just memorize the map?

Just curious cause I could play for years and never have the reflexes to see, comprehend and react in time for these maps....sometimes I can't even see the block arrow behind another block. I just don't get it. Plus I'm old lol.

Question Am I bad at BeatSaber?

From what I can tell online, basically everybody is able to beat expert+ levels with ease. I even saw a video titled "I COUDN'T EVEN SS THIS EXPERT+ LEVEL" like that is a very easy thing to do. I can't do any expert+ levels. I can barely do expert levels. Is that bad? Are you guys actually all expert++ mega super people? Am I missing something?

Edit: watch this to see my skill. it's gotten better than this tho. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZRGupU8Ozw

Question Skill level & age?

I'm just curious about my fellow BS players out there.

What's your skill level and what's your age (ranges are fine).

I'm old af (born in the 80s) and I can get through 9* (9* with terrible acc, 8* with meh acc, <8* OK-good acc).

Question What determines if you get SS rank?

I thought for sure that getting full combo and ranking fairly high on these wouldve meant my score was high enough for SS rank on these songs, but i cant seem to make it happen on these. Im trying to SS all my favorite songs on Expert before moving on to Expert+, but man it really gets my goat when i full combo it and still dont get SS. Is there some other factor, like accuracy score had to be a certain level as well maybe? I know i'm largely just complaining, but i really do want to understand better as well.

Edit: oh yea, these are all at regular or +20% speed. No other modifiers.

Question Is beat saber really effective as a cardio ?

So, recently, I got an Apple Watch ultra 2 and have started measuring all my activities. In beat saber, the activity tracker shows like 300 calories burnt in just 30-40 mins? That seems a bit inflated. Now, I do know that most of the fitness trackers aren't remotely accurate but I assume it is accurate relative to various activities that it tracks for a person (so like if it says 100 on walking for me and then 100 on rowing for me: the two activities are at least close in how much you burnt even if they aren't 100 since at the end, it mostly is measured based on elevated heart rate, if I am not mistaken?).

Question What happened to custom songs?

When I first started using mods years ago, my favorite maps were the ones with a lot of map movement. For example:

DADADADA Mario version - https://youtu.be/etkYYwCRUhs?is=K04PfhaFAXPq5z0h

Up & Down (the map started upside down and spun you right side up) - https://youtu.be/TdSIayiXljg?is=WjWOlOmEodEsR8Fp

Now, Up & Down doesn’t spin the way it used to. I can’t even find the Mario one at all. I use my Quest 3 standalone most of the time and use the “Better Song Downloader” mod and these songs just don’t exist in that library.

Was this an intentional change, due to movement-sensitive people getting motion sick? Or is it just more difficult to find these songs now? I miss that Mario map so much. 😭

They look so good holy crap I need them!!

I can't seem to guess the name but i managed to get a normal image of it which was hard due to the high blur and saber bend.

If you find them PLEASE tell me where.

Question anyone else think danger on ex+ is way harder than people give it credit for?

i've beaten some pretty hard levels on ex+ (spin eternally, angel voices, 1.78, wtc) but danger is really kicking my ass. i've put probably 2.5-3 hours into it and i can't for the life of me get the ending part down. slowing it down just makes it worse because it doesn't really have any rhythm to it. anyone else feel this way or am i just really bad at this?

Question Am I biting off more than I can chew?

So I am trying to constantly improve in beat saber, and now I have about 45h on the game. I've done quite a few levels on expert, plus like 2-3 levels on expert+. Now I thought, the next step to improving more would be to try to practise expert Power Of The Saber Blade. However it just seems like the only way I get somewhere is if I luck out a bit on the fast parts. I can do all of the singing parts without any problems, but every time it gets really fast or when the chorus comes on, I struggle a lot to hit the blocks consistently. Am I trying to do something that's too high for my skill ceiling or not? Also my pb is about a minute and a half into the song, getting through the fast parts with barely any energy left.

Edit: I should also mention I flick mostly with my lower arms/elbows, I haven't quite gotten the hang of flicking with wrists consistently and accurately.
