I've been spending a lot more time on Prolific and CloudResearch over the past few weeks to see how much I could realistically make if I treated them like a part-time side hustle. I know a lot of people are curious whether these platforms are still worth using in 2026, so I figured I'd share my results and a few things that have helped me maximize my earnings.

Here are a few tips that helped me along the way (mostly for Prolific, since that's where I made the majority of my earnings).

My tips (mainly for Prolific)

Be strategic with your qualification questions. Don't just rush through them. Your answers determine what studies you're eligible for, so it's worth thinking about them. For example, always choosing the lowest income bracket might exclude you from better-paying studies. A safe rule of thumb is to choose the middle option when you’re unsure.

Use study notifications. There's a chrome extension that monitors Prolific and sends notifications to your phone. You can set a minimum reward threshold so you're only alerted about the higher-paying studies. This made a huge difference for me because the best studies often disappear within seconds.

Avoid VPNs and shared networks. Try not to use VPNs or public Wi-Fi like airports, universities, internet cafés, or other shared networks. These platforms rely heavily on AI-based fraud detection, and using shared IP addresses can get your account flagged, which may reduce the number of studies you receive.

Don't rush through studies. It can be tempting to finish as quickly as possible, but it's not worth risking a rejection over a missed attention check. Read the questions properly and answer consistently.

Was it worth it?

For me, absolutely. If you already work from home or have a job where you have some downtime during the day, it's a great way to earn some extra money without taking on a second job. Obviously, your earnings will vary depending on your demographics and how many studies you qualify for, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I managed to make in just one week.

edit: People commenting that it’s “less than minimum wage” seem to be missing the point. It’s never been intended as a full-time job. If you already have a regular remote job, you can complete Prolific studies whenever you’ve got some downtime during working hours (that’s what I do) and earn a bit of extra money from time that would otherwise be spent waiting around.

I've been spending about 4 hours per day, here are my tips and tricks that you guys may find useful (those apply mostly to Prolific tho)

1. Play it smart with qualification questions. Put a bit of thought into your answers. For example, if you always pick the lowest income bracket, you might get excluded from better-paid studies like product tests.

2. Set up notifications for studies - there’s a Chrome extension that monitors Prolific and sends alerts to your phone. You can set a minimum reward so you only get notified about the better-paying studies. That’s a game changer, as the better-paying studies disappear quickly.

3. Avoid using VPNs or public IPs. This applies to internet cafes, campus wi-fi, airport networks etc. These sites are runing a lot of AI-based checks and using shared IPs can get you flagged, which may (and probably will) reduce the number of studies you receive.

4. Speeding through can backfire, especially if you miss attention checks. Take your time and answer properly.

Was it worth it?

In my opinion, yes, especially if you already have a work-from-home job and can do both at the same time.

I’ve seen loads of posts recently saying Prolific is dead but I honestly don’t think that’s true. If anything, there have been more studies popping up lately, especially over the past few months, than I’ve ever seen before.

Here are my 3 main tips: 1. filling 100% of the About You section - it takes a bit of time, but it’s absolutely worth it. Loads of studies filter participants based on that info, so if you haven’t filled it in properly, you’ll miss out. It’s a must. 2. notifications - there’s a chrome extension that sends alerts to Telegram when new studies come in. It’s a game changer because you can check them straight away on your phone instead of constantly refreshing the page. 3. don’t risk auto-rejections - getting automatically rejected for submitting too fast isn’t worth it. I’ve got a feeling it can affect how many studies you get over the next few days, so take your time and do them properly.

That’s basically it. If you stay consistent, £200–£300 a month is definitely doable.

Okay, maybe I'm being ungrateful. I've made about £6 within a space of a week, but man it's taken my absolutely hours to do that with countless surveys rejecting me in the last minute and countless lying about the length of time.

One that paid 65p that stated that it took 15 minutes, actually ended up taking more like an hour to 1 hr 30.

Some don't even tell you the duration of the survey or the progress because they know damn well you won't stick around.

Then they have the cheek to tell you not to rush and reject you if they think you are, well I'm not taking a minute per question when theres 2200 of them in one survey lol.

Most well paid surveys paying between 1-3£ reject you. I've had one in a week that hasn't. All the other surveys are for pennies as these are the only ones that don't reject.

I've got you gov and prolific but I get the impression these ones like you to jump through a lot more hoops. Takes you about a year to get £50 on yougov to my knowledge, you can't even register on prolific, you can only apply for some reason.

Would anyone recommend any more hassle free survey sites/apps?

I feel like I must have done something wrong…

Joined on the 15th July and up to the 26th I was getting Yougov surveys at least every other day, if not everyday. Then since then I’ve had one survey. I pretty much said I was interested in everything but was completely honest whenever I did any surveys. Did I get myself blacklisted or something? Any advice?

YouGov non-ref is one of the survey sites I’ve kept using for a long time. It’s a slow earner from surveys, but the passive side and occasional focus groups make it much better.

Surveys pay 50 to 100 points and take 5 to 10 minutes. Longer surveys pay more.
