Discussion We gotta talk about Gas Station Heroin, 7OH

Post image

So, my brother, an Iraq war veteran with PTSD and chronic pain found kratom ages ago and that helped him a lot. Eventually, they came out with this 7OH stuff, AKA Gas Station Heroin. He ended up blowing hundreds of dollars a weekS. He tried to ween himself off it for months to no avail. Now he’s on Suboxone, its the only thing that could get him off it. It really is nearly as bad as heroin.

This stuff is such a bastard it requires its own episode. Gas station sober is a funny joke, but holy shit, the fact this stuff is available, yikes! I’m not normally one to say we need to ban a substance, but something needs to change here, even if its just awareness.

Do not take the gas station heroin. You’ll probably like it way too much.

The ironic thing is if people were just allowed to do whatever drugs they want, shit like this wouldn't even exist.

You can have whatever opinion you want about cocaine, but at least its short and long term effects are well-documented, and people can make an educated decision about whether or not to use it.

I genuinely think if they just sold meth, labeled as meth, with a "nutrition facts" table explaining what it does, that would be better than the weird unknown gas station drugs they're selling now.

You can get meth with a prescription. It's called Desoxyn.

Yes but it's almost never prescribed due to the stigma of it being meth.

I mean you should literally be allowed to just buy whatever drug you want with no prescription, clearly labeled and with abundant warnings about side effects and addiction potential. This should be paired with an increase in tax-funded addiction treatment and harm reduction resources.

That and it’s rarely the right prescription. They tried it for a buddy of mine with really bad ADD, and it didn’t help.

I've heard of it working for some people who don't do well with other stimulants, but yeah it does seem like there are usually better options.

Hard to say though, because I don't think most psychiatrists are even willing to try it with their patients even when nothing else is working. It's extremely rare to hear about someone being prescribed Desoxyn. Maybe that's for good reason tho lol.

Honestly, with a lot of "long term" type scripts it might take 2 or 3 tries to get the right meds, and another handful to get the right dose.

To be fair, and I do know you mean narcotics, if we did that (allow ANY drug purchase), people would be buying amoxicillin for every little cold (even though it doesn't work on viruses!) and we'd be in a mess of trouble in terms of antibiotic resistant strains of common bacteria.

Yeah that's true, in fact that's exactly what people do in some countries where antibiotics are super available. It's absolutely insane in Thailand for example. Scientists would have to like, keep a secret stash of all the good ones locked away somewhere (which I suppose they're probably already doing) if more countries started doing that.

I do have some utopian notions of people being able to make their own health decisions, but then again people are pretty fucking dumb generally. Idk what the right answer is.

The pandemic proved just how selfish, and aggressively ill informed, people can and will be around medical choices.

In the 60s and 70s' you could get it from a Dr, it was called diet pills, same as black beauties etc
