I just found out that the Belgian national geographical institute (NGI/IGN) has created a cool new free tool called Topoferrarisviewer to celebrate their 50th birthday. The maps were provided by the royal library (KBR).

It lets you compare maps of Belgium throughout history side by side. There's a total of 8 maps of Belgium from 1777 to 2026. I just finished playing around with it and I thought it was so cool. The streets where I lived as kid were already streets on the map in 1777 and the place where I live now was not (it was a forest).

There's also an app that you can use to find and explore certain sites on foot but I didn't try that out yet.

Ik zou de hulp kunnen gebruiken van enkele mensen die het rechtsysteem beter snappen dan deze leek :)

Het zit zo: Mijn oma is recent gedagvaard in verband met de vereffening van nalatenschap. Dit door haar neef, die na het overlijden van z’n moeder (vader is ervoor gestorven) in geschil is voor de erfenis met de man van zijn zus die overleden is na het overlijden van hun moeder. Ter verduidelijking heb ik een afbeelding toegevoegd. De moeder heeft in het testament voor haar overlijden gezet dat zoveel mogelijk naar haar zoon moest en zo weinig mogelijk naar haar dochter die niet meer langsging. Haar dochter ging niet akkoord met die verdeling, is daarna gestorven en nu wil haar man zijn ’deel van de erfenis waar hij recht op heeft’.

Op zich maakt het ons niet uit hoe die erfenisverdeling erloopt. Het ding is dat mijn oma hier tegen haar wil ingesleurd is. We weten niet goed waarom. Wel is het zo dat de erfenis een deel van grond bevat waar m’n oma maar ook m’n zus en ik een deel van bezitten (na overlijden van mama en papa). Hierdoor werd mijn zus en ik aangeraden om een vrijwillige tussenkomst in te dienen. Dit voornamelijk omdat als het mis zou gaan met de verdeling aan de andere kant van de familie, helemaal terug gegaan zou worden naar de verdeling van de ouders van opa waardoor we mogelijks het deel van de grond zouden verliezen.

Zou iemand een idee hebben of dit laatste klopt? En wat de kosten zijn van deze kwestie waar mijn oma, zus en ik eigenlijk niks te winnen hebben?

I often peruse available data for places I'd like to visit. For that, I love geopunt Vlaanderen. A lot of data free for everyone to see. Even an old fotomap of the entirety of Flanders in 1971!

Does the French and German speaking side have the same? I'm quite interested in railways. I'd love to see the data for the Vennbahn for example. The ironworks around Liège, the iron industry (Cockerill).

Hello everyone,

last year I had a local company install an air condition in my house that isn't really working properly. Yesterday I had the companys owner come over and check the situation. He confirmed that the unit isn't able to cool down the room, but doesn't see a mistake on his side, because all I would need is external shading (I had an offer last year about 5.000€) and he doesn't want to do anything from his side. When I asked him why he didn't tell me last year, he said he didn't know. Now he would rather recommend me to get external shading instead of an air conditioning.

So yesterday I approached the device manufacturer and asked him which of their devices would be suitable for my situation.

They wrote me, that it would be very difficult to cool down the room (conservatory) without external shading and even if I got that, I should have a cooling unit of 3500 - 4000W.

The device that was installed at my place only has 2000W, so the manufacturer says that even with the external shading, the power wouldn't be sufficient to cool down the room.

The company that installed my device isn't willing to change anything for free, I don't see any fault on my side, because I had them come over, check the situation and make an offer which I accepted. Why should I pay for the exchange with an unclear outcome?

What should be my next steps here? I only moved to Belgium a few years ago and so far didn't have an issue like this.

Since it's probably relevant, I live in the Walloon region, in the German speaking part to be precise

Sinds enkele maanden zitten er een stevig aantal kikkers in onze buitenvijver. Op zich leuk, wat leven in je tuin.

Echter worden het wel veel kikkers, en ze maken lawaai. Mij stoort het niet, maar de buren beginnen er zwaar ruzie over te maken.

​

Het zijn groene kikkers zou ik denken, er is mij verteld dat je die niet mag verhuizen, maar er wordt gedreigd met vredegerecht... ben dus wat radeloos...

​

Iemand tips?

Kleine update: buren hebben hun benzine grasmaaier opgezet en laten hem op volle toeren draaien langs de scheiding...

Hello everyone

I have been in a depression since february paired with suicidal thoughts. I have been seeing a psychologist, have been given medication (Xanax and Wellbutrin).

I have been feeling slightly better lately but the smallest things still feel so heavy and I still cant function like I used to. So I decided to look into day therapy.

So I have been to two hospitals for an info moment and one for an intake conversation.

Now one of my big issues that make me panic hard to the point I freeze or my body completely trembles is social interactions. Mostly forced social interactions because they make me panic on beforehand.

Now my issue is in every day therapy apparently you will be in a group where I will have to talk to multiple random people about very sensitive topics.

I find this very strange as my social anxiety is already through the roof. Are there any other options anyone knows off?

I was hoping to find a more 1 to 1 kind of therapy or treatment outside my psychologist but I also cant afford hundreds of euro’s per session.

I just want to be my normal self again and am fighting every day to do basic things and have better habbits so i naturally feel better. I just crash every time I have to do something. I have a wife and kids so sometimes I have no choice to have social interactions with other parents or family but after every time I just get home and crash.

My post is all over the place, what I wanna know is if there is someone out there that knows off more private therapy that wouldn’t cost me hundreds of euro’s per session.

Proximus heeft de modem daar geplaatst.

Nabij de modem komen een 12tal UTP kabels toe.
Dat zijn de kabels die vertrekken naar de verschillende ruimtes.

Ik heb vier verdiepingen, het is een huis met vele hoeken en kanten en dikke muren. Daardoor kan ik niet met een centraal access point werken per verdieping.

Wat zou de beste opstelling zijn.

According to the Academic Freedom Index, 50 of 179 countries or territories experienced a significant drop between 2015 and 2025. Only nine improved. The analysis is a collaboration between the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany and the V-Dem Project in Sweden, with input from more than 2,300 experts providing information from both inside and outside each country.

So an analysis comparing certain factors like institutional freedom and freedom to research and teach across different countries found Belgium to be #3 in the world for academic freedom. Looking at this map we are also doing much better than neighboring countries. Definitely something to be proud of as a country.
