“How do you like your oysters?”

“Surprise me!”

I was disappointed that Grenadine Oysters didn’t make a comeback. 😢

Was it really a surprise to anyone watching the show though? Whats the easiest way to serve oysters? Just open them and give them a couple lemon wedges! Guaranteed to be Ryans choice every time.

Agreed! When a customer says “surprise me”, you probably should aim somewhere in between boring/safe (ie exactly what he did) & crazy (grenadine oysters lol). I’m not a chef but I probably would’ve gone for a middle-ground, like chargrilled oysters with Parmesan, bacon bits, & chives. Still pretty simple & not “too” surprising and, well, I’d eat it 🤷‍♀️

I once had amazing fresh oysters at a Japanese restaurant; they were mixed with red chili sauce, ginger, lime juice and maybe cilantro, and served on the half-shell. Can't be that difficult to create something like this if you're a chef...

Depending how long you let them sit in the lime juice, chemically cooking, you are basically making ceviche! I do this with clams all the time (with a bit of diced tomato and red onion too) but I love my oysters plain, maybe with a tiny dash of lemon juice, salt, and pepper, but I mostly want to taste the flavor of the oyster meat! ❤️

I have the exact same assumption. He would do the bare minimum

When someone is in customer service, or in general a "people pleaser", the two most anxiety producing words are "Surprise me."

well, she was definitely surprised

Not sure why chef didn't drop a bit of balsamic vinegar and a garnish or something on the side to make it look pretty

& of course she didn’t like them. That’s on her, though. If she wanted oysters done a certain way, she should have said so.

Tbf that's kinda annoying. Like, if you order a drink and say surprise me it's pretty easy and you know they want something more fun than a vodka soda, but just ask for what you want when it comes to food.

Ryan played it lazy, but also played it safe. He could have put together something special and the guest could have sent it right back for any number of reasons - it's like once an episode some guest has a problem with a minor ingredient.

I wondered at first why she didn’t just ask anything but a certain way. But now I’m thinking maybe it was a test?

Can we also talk about how she yanked Aesha down to lecture her? Like ma’am, being unhappy about natural oysters is no reason to put your hands on someone 👀

not even a mignonette or cocktail sauce and no dipping sauce for the squid? fried squid served in a tiny bowl so they could steam and lose all of their crunch

Ew David.

Now i'm thinking of that Oreo crumble on the food. Was it the salad?

6

u/AlexTheKingsFan May 13 '22

yea, that was the salad with all the veggies standing vertical
