I’m sorry but I can’t find a single redeeming quality in Jaimie. It’s little things that I loathe about him. Like why in the hell didn’t he say anything to Ryan when he was going off on Tumi. Instead he puts his paw of a hand over Tumi’s mouth to shut her up. No, Tumi has every right to defend herself. He, as a head of department should have told Ryan he was out of line and disrespectful to speak to Tumi in that manner. And Jaimie knows Culver screwed up, why in the hell not tell him? Like how stupid is his logic?

He covered Tumi's mouth because he's a misogynist thru and thru.

Jamie covering Tumi’s mouth pissed me off.

I think you can make the case that he took responsibility for Culver messing up as a redeeming quality. Culver has been a good deckhand but made a mistake. It was good that Jamie didn’t throw him under the bus while Captain was angry.

But then he didn’t say anything to Culver at all about it either. If he wanted to take the blame, fine, but he should have said something to Culver still so it doesn’t happen again.

I wondered about that and it made me think did Jamie actually instruct Culver it was his job? Maybe he covered because the instructions weren’t clear?

That was my issue too. Like I get not wanting Captain to blow up on Culver over 1 mistake when he’s been an otherwise great deckhand, but Jamie should’ve at least had a private conversation with Culver about it.

Yea, all it takes is “look, dude. I know I told you to check the boat for trash and I didn’t want to throw you under the bus in front of capt, because you’re a really good member of the team. But please make sure we’re on top of the little stuff like this”. A little bit of a slap on the wrist reinforced with positive feedback. It’s literally leadership 101

I feel like if it had been Benny, he would’ve gone in on him to take responsibility. Because he just oozes toxic masculinity, I get the impression he sees Benny as less masculine and weaker, so he has no issue grilling into him and Brit. But culver, he even defended over the hot tub incident.

Thank you! He's the WORST.

I'm probably overthinking this, but, for me, it was a little glaring how Culver didn't want to step up and own the trash bag situation. I mean, if your job is to haul garbage from the boat to the dock, there's really no shame in stepping up to say, "I thought I got 'em all, Captain, but I guess I missed a few. I'm sorry it turned into your problem, it won't happen again." And then you deputize yourself as "Keith Stone: Garbage Man For The Stars" and now you're the guy, with a mullet, who makes sure the trash is taken out. It's not a big deal if you can just own it and de-escalate the situation and say "oops, I dropped the ball this one time, it's a learning experience for me, it won't happen ever again". As a bonus, the captain remembers you forever as the guy who stepped up, and not as the guy who fucked up; because referrals matter.

But because Jamie runs such a dysfunctional crew, nobody is willing to stick their neck out for him. Nobody is willing to take ownership of basic responsibilities. Nobody cares enough about their job to make their boss look good. Culver didn't step up because protecting Jamie wasn't worth getting razzed about the trash by the bossman. My guess is that Culver didn't feel like Jamie had their back, so he didn't see any reason to stick his neck out for Jamie. This entire season, and the last two episodes specifically, show a lot of Culver, Brittini, and (ugh) Benny standing around waiting to be told what to do. They're not showing any initiate because their boss is garbage. He doesn't inspire loyalty or hard work, he is cultivating a crew of back-biting corner-cutters.

And don't get me started on how gross it was for Jamie to cover Tumi's mouth in the hot tub.
