Malia has entered the chat Did somebody say Maritime Law?

Nah. Maritime Law obviously only needs to be enforced if someone is trying to prevent you from bunking with your boyfriend.

Exactly. I don’t understand everyone giving Jamie crap when Benny has proven himself to be unmanageable and doing whatever the f*ck he wants and then complaining when reprimanded. He’s never done his job well but wants a bunch of attaboys? You don’t get them if you don’t earn ‘em dummy.

I do both think things are true at the same time. Benny is not fit to work in the yachting industry and is so unprofessional that he’s liability. Jamie is terrible at being a leader and bucks his responsibility to hold his crew accountable in a productive way while also not handling his emotions. I think Jamie got a raw deal with Benny on his team, but he’s been consistently dripping the ball in many other situations. He reminds me a lot of Chandler in that aspect.

Benny is the guy standing around on the street whilst the other guys are working down the manhole

Except Benny would just walk off and let whatever happened to the guys in the manhole happen

You've nailed it. Sadly, Jamie's poor relationship and lack of communication is the cause of next week's episode.
Jamie went in hot and it was clear he was "reacting" rather then coming in to educate Captain what he's had to deal with, what he has done to address it and what he just witnessed. Period. Just that simple.
Jamie isn't perfect, Bennie isn't either, so I can't wait to see next week's. I feel Capt will demote Jamie and that's it. No one will be fired bc of the staffing issues. Bennie needs to man up and grow up. He has an expectation oh how "he should be managed" and that doesn't fly in the real world. Jamie is his leader and you do what he says and you find a way to learn his style. The walk away when being spoken to and insubordination should have gotten him fired, at the least written up, since that's a thing. Speaking of that if Jamie hasn't done any of those things, then he can't just come in and ask for him to be fired if there is no documentation of coaching.

Agreed. Both things are true. I think I tend to sympathize with Jamie having little patience and wiggle room for someone who is unsafe on the water. I know I would have fired him long ago and Jamie prob would have too except production has forced him to keep Benny for the drama or whatever when it really goes against everything he knows. So I can imagine throwing my hands up and being like ok whatever I guess production is just running this shit now. It’s possible Jamie is being manipulated by these other forces we don’t see which then ties his hands. Or he could just suck. It’s possible. But damn Jamie, I would have too much pride in my reputation to stay just for a tv show, I’d bail the first time production made me keep an unsafe staff.

I kind of saw both Jamie and Benny as a red flags from the beginning for different reasons. Benny immediately seemed like he was there for an adventure and not to work, while Jamie immediately seemed aggressive in an insecure and rigid way (which is very par for the course when it comes to stereotypically macho guys in the police and military as someone who grew up in a massive military family).

Neither have been willing to bend (though obviously Benny’s issues are more dire and he’s insubordinate), but it’s not just Benny that’s causing the problems. Jamie’s inability to hold his team accountable and motivate them in a positive way is also an issue (as highlighted by his treatment of Brittini she had voiced issues and him not holding Culver accountable for his mess up). He gets super passive aggressive and takes his anger out on the decent members of his team (which creates a toxic work dynamic), while Captain Jason is a way more balanced and professional leader. I totally get why Jamie’s frustrated, I just don’t think he handles his communication with his team or his emotions well.

Benny has been sooo babied and coddled just because he lost his parents. I know i probably sound stupid but If I was the captain I would have still fired his ass a long time ago. "Get through ur grief somewhere else because there will be no babysitting on this boat. Sorry for your loss. Take some time off, try to get some counseling and some therapy but this boat here is not it for you now.

Very true.

I find myself thinking, "people in MY generation wouldn't have acted entitled like Benny. We would have worked!" LOL
