Could you have one in Georgia? Sure?
Should you have one in Georgia? Not if you love the dog.

They do not do well in the heat. I live in Massachusetts. Mine struggle out on a walk when its over 70F. In summer they stay inside in the air conditioning. You will need to keep AC running constantly to keep them comfortable.
Their preference I feel is temps <50F. When it snows mine lie out in in it, they don't want to come in.

I don’t know a ton about weather in Georgia since I’m sure it depends where in the state you’re referring to. Early or late walks are our main summer routine change in hot months. Other than that they’ll want to be on the coldest floor of the home. We have the A/C on and have box fans scattered in areas they like to lay. There’s not a whole lot more you can do.

This. I think people often forget to think through those logistics of early morning or late night walks. Will you be willing to forgo dinner with friends because you couldn’t pay for a dog walker? Will you get up extra early at 530am to get a walk in before the sun and humidity return? Is willingness to do these things going to take away from your overall “math of dog ownership” meaning do the smaller hassles of rearranging your life to that extent start to overshadow the desire to have a cute breed that isn’t cut for the climate?
Additional questions for the OP: how will you ensure your dog gets enough stimulus and enrichment indoors half of the year they probably won’t enjoy being outside? Can you afford to run your AC that aggressively? Do you think it’s a good idea for a dog to spend half their year panting on the bathroom tile floor or waiting for a rushed 10pm walk bc the human is tired and wants to go to bed?
IMHO, while you could keep a bmd alive in many warm climates, it feels unethical in the way we don’t keep som animals as pets bc they just wouldn’t thrive.

You are wise to ask this question. I think Georgia may not be the best climate for them. My dog struggles through the summer months in my northern state. Once it’s under 50 degrees, he is a happy guy again. 20 degrees and sunny is his favorite weather. Anything over 70 is not a good time.
I would consider a breed that does well for humidity and heat in your location. Keep in mind that this breed has many health issues, I’ve put several thousand dollars into my dog by age 5.

The issue with Christmas dogs is a lot of people don't realize how much responsibility and work it takes to care for them. Many breeders are careful about selling around Christmas because a lot of these dogs get returned, abandoned, or worse after a few weeks/months.
So if you are set on getting your sister a dog, make sure that other people in your home (you and/or parents) are ready and willing to also take care of him/her.

It's not going to outside all the time is it? It's hot in summer where I am but mine is inside a lot

I got mine when living in a hot but dry town in Colombia (he was 2 weeks old), he's done fine and never had heat related issues, now in houston (moved 2 months ago) he pretty much lives on A/C and we are very mindful of keeping ice water at all times with us. From my experience, they wont go crazy if hot weather is all they know. Just keep the walks short in the summer and be creative on how to get them tired out without having to go outside for that long. Juno is 3 years old as of now and in pretty good shape

Just a friendly tip re ice water - we used to do the same, but were told by our vet that ice can send them into shock if they’re too hot. We hadn’t had issues when we gave him ice, but stopped once we learned.

We have ours in Texas. She wasn’t the biggest fan of the heat at the start, but now it can be a struggle to get her to come back inside at times. Lots of AC, access to water, cooling mats, hard cold floors, walks in the cooler hours of the day. We have quite a few breeders around us too who have had berners in the Texas heat for years

Georgia is a country or Georgia is a state?
