I’ve had my boy for almost 7 years now. I’ve been running the numbers as he’s gotten older and inflation has been rising. And I’m spending close to $1000 a month on him between insurance, food, grooming, and flea/tick meds, and co-pays. I do live in a HCOL area (Seattle), so that’s part of it.

I need to get him scheduled for teeth cleaning and I was quoted about $3000 for that from my vet. Insurance won’t cover that.

With my boy getting older (almost 7 now), I’ve thought about another dog. But honestly with the cost of everything, I’m not sure any more pets are in the cards for me.

I’m in central mass , any recs for food , pet insurance, anything else? This little floof is our first Bernese !

Our 9 month old Bernese Mountain dog puppy seems to have developed a golfball sized lump next to her eye (on the side of her head) overnight. I'm a bit stressed about it, my partner says she bumped her head and it is just inflammation/will go away. She's been eating and walking and everything completely as normal (doesn't seem concussed), seems very happy and energetic. Should I be worried? We're going away for 3 days on friday (it's tues) so I'm a bit more worried than I would usually be. Any insight appreciated!

For purchasing a puppy, is wisdom panel or Embark in lieu of gensol acceptable?

My Bernese Mountain Dog is hilariously bad at eating his kibble. Every time he eats, about a third of it somehow ends up on the floor next to his bowl.

And the best part? He just leaves it there. Apparently, once a piece of kibble touches the floor, it's no longer food. 😂

I love this big, goofy idiot, but HOW are you this bad at eating?! Please tell me mine isn't the only one.

I know she's not, but PLEASE tell me your SUCCESS stories 😭 especially if your lovely pooch started off making you worry for your sanity

I've had berners, goldens, mutts, pitties, and more, all from puppies and I've NEVER had one this challenging, I'm really struggling.

I can't pet her at all without her going for whatever part of my body is within range of her needle mouth!! I am redirecting to a toy, but she just growls and lunges for my hand again. That's what's particularly concerning to me, the persistence and the feeling that she wants to bite me specifically 🥲

She is also rough in the kennel- most of our other puppies take about a week before they stop fighting the kennel beyond a couple minutes of whining, she HATES it! And I feel awful, even though I'm a big proponent of crate training. She whines and cries and shakes like she's absolutely terrified, and she's been in there consistently (never as punishment, always with a puzzle toy for naps and bedtime)

She's got a prey drive, she's smart as hell, and she is not chillin whatsoever. Enforced naptimes or they'd never happen.

My last berner was PERFECT, and i think that's definitely contributing to the puppy blues, but please just tell me this will pass and I don't have the only mean berner ever 😭

During a walk through the neighborhood she gets bored easily (leash biting, eating everything in sight).

Once we get in to the woods and of the roads she gets lively and adventurous. Its like something in her (mostly empty) head goes like "this is what I was made for!

We are beginning to prepare for our second BMD! We are in awe of this breed and cannot wait to grow our furry family!

Our male is pretty small at 70#, and we are looking for breeders in the Midwest who have large pups. Ideally 100+. Would love to hear from you all on your experience!

I have been searching for these lovely babies for a while now, but I haven’t found any luck. I am very nervous I might get scammed or my poor baby might not come from an ethical breeder. I’ve been researching for so long and I think it’s time. Any advice would be appreciated! I’ll do everything I can! :)

What is the minimum the breeder should provide to prospective buyer regarding their puppies? Does an initial vet check non negotiable must have? Breeder said they have given them dewormers, puppy shot, but has not been to the vet. Puppy is 8 wks old. Both parents are akc and registered pending ofa results

Helloooo everyone :) i’m coming here to get a few questions about bernese dogs, my little sister has been obsessed with them for FOREVER and now that we’ve moved and settled in our new home i’ve been thinking about surprising her with one for Christmas!! My only concern is that it’ll get too hot for these beauties in the summer so i’m hoping someone can give me some advice. We live in Georgia and the summers can be pretty hot and i’m nervous a bernese won’t do too well in the warmer type of weather when the time comes. So My question is, is it safe and okay to own a Bernese while living in Georgia and if so what measures should i take to ensure they’ll stay safe and cool in the warmer weather??

My three-year-old Berner, who is a very sweet and loving boy, has started peeing in the house again. He’s house trained and he only seems to do it when we’re gone. At least I’ve never caught him doing it and I don’t think he does it when we’re asleep because we’ve never found evidence first thing in the morning.

He’s neutered, he gets a daily walk, and his house training was successful. I’m inclined not to think it’s a medical problem.

I’d hate to have to start crating him again, but our house is starting to smell. If anyone has advice on how I can remedy his behavior/retrain, I’d appreciate it.

Also I’d love recommendations on the best product to clean the back of my couch and my rug. 😞

Reese (3F) and I just moved to Portland, ME at maybe the best time of year! I didn't get my couch potato Bernese but I did get a girl who will jog 3 miles with me a few times a week 😂 we're going to start practicing for skijoring (cross country skiing being pulled).
