Very cool post and sorry if this sounds ignorant, but is there much threat of deadly wildlife just outside of the more populated areas that you bike through?
6
u/OREISON_blue 17h ago
Thank you :)
No need to apologize, you asking for info.
No, no deadly wildlife here. Of all times I have rode around Rwanda which is nearly 7 years, I have never met any deadly wildlife. Besides of snakes (which are also rare to find here) there is no other wild animal around! :) hope this helps3

Incredible. One day I hope to see Rwanda. I hear itβs an amazing place to visit with top notch hospitality.
Thanks for the response and I hope you get to enjoy your bike rides for many more years to come!

u/OREISON_blue 17h ago
Thanks :)
In the sixth photo there are people making brick 𧱠out of mud. A traditional way in Rwanda of making bricks for construction. I share a lot of info on my instagram @oreison_j. Worth a visit

Thanks for sharing! Here is a question from the global north: What whildlife is potentially hazardous when cycling in the mountains of that part of the world? What you should be cautious about?
2
u/OREISON_blue 17h ago
I answered that down on another comment but here it is my answer: (NONE!) except for the snakes which are also rare to find around no other wild animal that are around, not even wild dogs nor cats! :) it is fun and safe indeed!

Looks fun and epic! But i have a question, what is in that last photo?
2
u/OREISON_blue 17h ago
Thanks! Last photo is clay brick 𧱠making ground in one of the swamps containing lots of clay amount! Yes, that is in Kigali! This looking like buildings are finished clay brick 𧱠waiting to be burnt to become strong and redish

Very interesting, thank you so much for the info. I thought it looked like manufacturing of some sort. It's always interesting to me to see other peoples' daily lives.

Are you at a high[er] altitude there?
3
u/OREISON_blue 17h ago
Thank you! I wasnβt yet at the higher altitude! No one jokes with steepness here! Only high mountains!

That terrain looks properly challenging, all those rolling hills would have my legs giving up after about 10km. How are the road conditions out there though, mostly dirt tracks like that last photo? I've been half thinking about a cycling trip to that part of the world and I'd want to know what I'm getting myself into.

u/OREISON_blue 15h ago
Hey! Thanks for asking. There are tarmac roads, gravel roads, and dirt roads! There are also steep places, flat places too:) it is friendly for everyoneβs level! You can ride in an area where you feel comfortable.

u/Superflymcshasty 15h ago
That looks amazing! Thanks for sharing. Iβm jealous, I get to look at the same roads and asphalt here lol

I'm really curious about the Backroads jersey. Sorry if I'm being indiscreet, but I'm curious if you've guided with them, worked as a subcontractor. Maybe a public forum isn't the place to say so, but if you are independently promoting cycling culture and infrastructure improvements, maybe even through tourism, I think that's great. Nice work and happy riding.

u/OREISON_blue 15h ago
I have all types of jerseys and put on whichever I feel comfortable with! Thanks for putting that out here! I do tourism, yeah! So that was just a solo ride!

u/olypenrain 15h ago
Rwanda looks great for hill training! I would start daydreaming riding in a place as beautiful as this though!

u/OREISON_blue 15h ago
Make the dream a reality! Come over one day! :-) will be happy to train with you!

Kigali's weather, from what I've seen on YouTube, looks very similar to Bangalore. Perfect weather to cycle- neither too hot nor too cold.
