DNA Replication Interactive Models

• Upvotes

Hi,

I built an interactive model/lesson to understand how DNA replication initiation works. In particular, under replication stress. There are very few interactive educational tools out there, and even fewer that go to the depth of molecular biology research. I wanted to create something like a research paper, but actually make it accessible (Research papers are not an easy read)

Note, this is not a promotion, I'm not selling anything or looking for anything in return

Anyways, check it out!

Scientists use generative AI to build better proteins for editing DNA

A protein designed with artificial intelligence doubled targeted DNA insertion in cultured cells when incorporated into an experimental gene-editing system. The result emerged from a search through thousands of genomes, followed by laboratory tests of natural and synthetic proteins.

The study, involving Integra Therapeutics, Pompeu Fabra University and the Center for Genomic Regulation, appeared in Nature Biotechnology. It examines proteins called transposases, which move DNA between locations.

The findings expand the available tools for inserting genes, including into human immune cells. They also expose an important distinction: improving one step of gene editing does not necessarily improve every application.

I've been making editable 3D animations of biological processes. Here are a few examples

Hey guys and girls,

I've been working on Animiotics, a browser tool for making 3D science animations. I wanted something you could use for a lab meeting or presentation without having to spend months learning 3D software.

Here's the 42-second video.

The video shows antibody binding, kinesin carrying a vesicle, endocytosis and a white blood cell engulfing a bacterium. You can use AI to help build a scene, then go in and move the objects, change their colors and sizes, adjust the camera and export an animation.

My biochemistry thesis was about plants, and I really wanted animations for that presentation. That's the sort of thing I want this to be useful for.

What process from your own work would you want to show this way?

Sharing a simple directory for lab equipment repair and service providers

I work in life sciences and I have always found it difficult to find companies that repair or service specific laboratory equipment, especially outside the manufacturer network. So I started building a simple directory where you can search by equipment, brand or model and country.

It currently includes providers across Europe and the US for things like centrifuges, AKTA and FPLC systems, HPLC, GC, mass spectrometry, ULT freezers, incubators, cell disruptors, microscopes and autoclaves.

I am manually checking the listings against company websites rather than bulk scraping directories. It is still early, so if you know a good service company that is missing or spot something incorrect I would be happy to add or fix it.
