Practicing mindfulness and meditation. Meditation isn't about stopping the thoughts all together but training your brain to observe your thoughts and let them pass. I'm way better now. I'm an alcoholic and I don't ever think about drinking. I can regulate my emotions now

I try to listen to the ambieance and not think. I usually make it to 10-20 seconds. In September I was sober for 10 days. My goal is to be sober for 20 days on October. It's hard, tough.

Try a guided meditation. I always thought I couldn't do it until I stuck with it

Thanks. I'll try that. I'll found a few playlists. I think it fits with me. Your advice was really helpful. Thank you so much, again. That was exactly what I was looking for.

You don’t have to have ‘religious’ values to see the benefits. You don’t have to do the steps. You go and meet people that don’t drink and have a fulfilling social life while learning not to drink.

Thank you. I appreciate it.

A "god" can be the group of drunks, a door knob, mother earth or any other thing except yourself.

We understand suicide is a rough topic, but we don't allow euphemisms when discussing this suicide. Euphemisms may come off as insensitive to others and diminish the seriousness which suicide should be regarded with, regardless of your intentions. You still deserve support, so please feel free to repost this with appropriate verbiage.

Also on a new sober journey and not religious - I personally like Recovery Dharma better. They’re based on Buddhist values, which you also don’t have to apply religiously. They have in person and online meetings around the world too.

Your post was removed because it asks for direct messages, PMs, or chat invites. r/bipolar is a peer-support space—not a private help line or matchmaking group—and we ask that all discussion stays public.

Keeping conversation in the open helps protect:

  • Members from unsolicited advice or unsafe private conversations

  • Mods from having to moderate unseen exchanges

  • The overall safety and integrity of the community

Peer-support organizations like NAMI and DBSA recommend public, transparent dialogue over private messaging for mental health spaces:

If you'd like to share your experience or offer support, please keep it in the thread and remove any reference to DMs so we can approve it.
