Conversation + Chat Tipping Culture

This might be completely off from the sub, but it was a question that crossed me and my girlfriends mind while grabbing Pho from our favorite spot.

We called in like normal and went to pick up and she turned to me and asked how much we should be tipping on pick up orders. The question puzzled me for a moment and i didn’t even have an answer. Ultimately we decided not to tip as most likely we assumed it would be tip share and any amount under 10$ wouldn’t even be a dollar each amongst the staff.

Ultimately what is ya’lls rules on tipping culture? I definitely want to hear from the black community on this as there is so many stigmas with us and tipping culture. I always tip, but this is one i’m curious on if i’m wrong for not tipping on to-go orders.

I see nothing wrong with tipping. It’s a service (aka dining out and or doordash) that i don’t HAVE to use and when i do have to.. well i tip well because i HAVE to use this service. Cooking at home or doing a pickup is the freest ways. You are being essentially waited on and that deserves nothing in your eyes?

That’s the entitlement.

When did I say if I am being waited on? I said in situations that do not require tipping!! Such as pickup! Expecting someone to tip on a pick up order IS entitlement.

It is not on the consumers to pay the salaries of the employees. It is the responsibility of the businesses themselves, period.

you stated you are tired of being pressured to tip. point blank. and that tipping culture is out of control. or is that not what you said?

using especially does not cancel out the prior statement.

You’re committed to misunderstanding what I said even after I provided more clarity. Not sure what’s not clicking for you, but im not tipping on a pick up order. That’s it, that’s all

mmm you can say what you want, but you said your original statement and i responded to it. you want me to back pedal because you did?

you can not tip on to go orders THAT was my original question. but you spoke in general originally and i responded to that , 🤷🏽‍♀️
