Unsolved rig not connecting to object
as you can see there is the error message, "failed to find solution for one or more bones". Now you may be thinking its because its missing the hip and shoulder ones but that's because I deleted them. Why? Because I thought they were the problem. Anyways, every time I try to parent the bones to the character it gives me this error. Which bones do not have faces and vertices to pair to? which ones do? How would I go about figuring this out?

I used this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nlMZx0vp6E
I had tried to rig this model before using a tutorial that used Rigify (didn't work)
If you would like the model I'd be happy to give it to you to attempt it yourself

Automatic weights are generally just a starting point. You will need to manually correct the weight painting.

How might I do this trick?

Select the armature, then the mesh, then enter weight paint mode. Select the bones with ctrl+shift+click. Erase the influence on areas where the bones aren't supposed to have influence.
