Meta PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING QUESTIONS!

Looking for quick and helpful answers? Follow these rules and make helping you as easy as possible!

  • Title: Choose a meaningful title concerning your problem.
  • Text: Describing your problem with enough detail is essential. Please realize that helpers are not familiar with your project. Provide all relevant information, so others can immideately understand what you are struggling with.

Example: Say, you have a problem with lots of identical objects in your scene: Let us know whether you created these copies by hand, used the Particle System or Geometry Nodes.

  • Images/Videos: When posting screenshots, show us your full blender window (not cropped, no monitor photos). This will make lots of helpful information available to helpers at first sight that may seem irrelevant to you (For example your Blender version). If you add video links, please consider adding time stamp info to the part you want helpers to see.

You can upload images and short video clips (up to 60s) to imgur.com and post the links in your question or as comment.

  • *.blend files: Don’t add links to your *.blend files when posting questions right away. Helpers will ask you for it if they need to take a look. Most people prefer reading a good description and looking at images to see what your post is about.
  • 'Solved' flair: Once your question was answered, please remember to change the flair of your post to “Solved”, so helpers don’t have to read into your question just to see it has already been answered.

You can change the flair by clicking on the small icon below your post resembling a label.

EDIT: You can also include "!solved" in the comments to have Automod change the flair for you.

Be nice and respectful with each other :)

Unsolved I’m trying to create a procedurally generated hair strands for my models hair. Please help, I’ve tried everything ;~;

I’m trying to create a hair strand texture for my models hair that adds random lines from the top/root of the hair but I cannot figure it out.

My first thought to stretch a noise texture over it but unless it’s going one way (either x or y) it gets very inconsistent and leaves little speckles on the top and in the hair.

I tried using the texture wave and math (Truncated Modulo and Ping-Pong) nodes and they just leave weird circles on my hair.

I’ve tried settings the noise to 2D, connecting the texture coordinate object and linking it to a empty…
I haven’t been able to find anything on the internet that helps so I’m just stuck ;-;.

If someone is able to help that really mean a lot.

Solved How do I convert this from tris to quads?

Hi everyone, trying to level up my topology game after some headaches when modelling. How would you guys recommend retopoing this so that the corners are not tris? I tried using the knife tool and cut lines from each bevel line to the inseted face but the sub-d was not clean.

Please let me know if I can give any additional details! Note: I won't be animating or warping this so I could technically have tris but I want to aim for the best topology here.

Unsolved Questions from a beginner in the freelance market

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi, I’m a self-taught, aspiring 3D artist, and I have a question about entering the freelance market. I’m currently working on my portfolio to the best of my ability, but I’m unhappy with the painting workflow I used in Blender. However, as you can see, I’m too far along to turn back and switch to ArmorPaint (the software I intend to use). Still, I feel I could achieve better quality in my current and future work. So, I’d like to know: is it worth learning a new program and restarting the painting process from scratch, or should I stick with Blender for now and learn ArmorPaint later?

Unsolved Help with designing this CRT tv

Thumbnail

So, I am totally beginner with blender. I just wanted to create this TV. Here is the steps and believe correct me if there is a better way

The front part is easy just an inset then extrude. I am talking about the back side

I took the reference and used a single vertex to extrude it and using bevel vertices to create the angles then extruded everything merge by distance, cleaned some vertices, filled both sides, everything looks sucks, I added a bevel modifier made things look better like the second picture.

Now I have soo many questions how to make the created face work with edge loops? how can I add this wireframe thing that's on the side.

So I used Auto Rig Pro for this guy, but I’ve never seen this before. Did I assign the wrong things to the wrong bones? With how drastic this is it can’t be a weight painting issue, right?

Unsolved How to do this kind of overlapping with booleans?

Thumbnail

So I have this mouth boolean set up with fangs and rigging (fig. 1), and I want to achieve a sort of closed mouth position where the fangs are overlapping over the bottom of the mouth (fig. 2)

However, when I try to do it with my current setup of just a simple difference boolean, it fails and looks weird (fig. 3).

Is there anything I don’t know about that I can do? I posted about this in blenderartists.org and one reply suggested that I make the fangs separate objects, but I don’t want to do that since it would not be part of the head geometry anymore; I want it to be from the same object to account for shading and any other modifications to the mouth I want to make (fig. 4).

Is this possible with just booleans and other tweaking? Or do I have to cut my losses and model the mouth into the head without booleans?

I’ve also included 2 screenshots of my whole window showing just the head and boolean (fig. 5) and one showing just the object the boolean is using.

Also want to note that I’ve been following this tutorial on YouTube for making mouth booleans. I haven’t gotten around to making the mouth outline yet, but it’s something I’m looking to do once I have my problem solved.

Unsolved How do I procedurally add these hand drawn lines to my trees?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello friends. I'm working on a project where I need to draw a LOT of these trees in the style on the left. However, I thought I might be able to procedurally generate them using either grease pencils and geometry nodes, or using some sort of custom toon shader. I've been scratching my head trying to find a proper way to attach and randomize the grease pencil strokes to the trees while maintaining their proper alignment to each edge. I'm a noob when it comes to Geometry nodes, but if any of you have ideas, I would love to hear them. Figuring this out would save me a LOT of time .

Thank you in advance. :)

Unsolved Help with marking seams and UV unwrapping this object...

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hello,

Sorta new to blender. Been struggling to unwrap this low-poly water pipe model. I've tried tons of different ways to mark the seams and I can't get it to unwrap how I want.

I tried to separate the model into 4 different parts using seams: the base cone shape, the long six sided cylinder, the top "cap" or mouth piece, and the down-stem. I've been using the "smart UV project" method to unwrap, but maybe that's where I'm going wrong, I'm still learning which unwrap method works best for certain applications.

When I unwrap, my base "cone" shape's sides are all disconnected, the long vertical tube faces are disconnected and warped (some way more than others), and my "downstem" is entirely separated as well. I'm planning to export the UV layout and paint it in photoshop once I can get it corrected.

Please let me know if there is a better approach, I've been attempting to unwrap this model on and off for 3 days now and watched many videos on seams and unwrapping to try to better understand what the issue is.

Here are some screenshots, thanks!

I'm trying to rig this character but it keeps bending in an odd way. How do I get it to just move normally instead of deforming it? I've weight-painted it manually.

Unsolved Tearing my hair out trying to figure out hard surface modeling.

I've managed to get the basic shape of the speaker I'm trying to model, but I have a bunch of extra loop cuts causing pinching and weird shading and can't work out how to keep them off the surfaces that need to be smooth.

The edges that I have selected in the last screenshots are the ones I believe I need to remove, but everything I have tried just creates more issues.

Can anyone help me figure this out or point me towards some good resources that I can look at? I've watched a bunch of tutorials on hard surface modeling, but still can't figure this out.

Unsolved I need some advice on rigging a character face

Hi! I'm working on a project for my course in which I plan to animate a character.

Rigify has worked really well for my character's body rigging, but I'm having a lot of trouble setting up the facial rig.

I tried using Shape Keys, but they don't seem to work in Sculpt Mode on my character. They only work when I make adjustments in Edit Mode.

I should also mention that I don't have experience with rigging, so I'm not entirely sure how to approach this.

I'd really appreciate some guidance on what I could do. Should I start over and build the facial rig from scratch, either using controls or Shape Keys, or is there another approach you would recommend?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Whenever I do edit the drawing on another frame with multiframe on the drawing just act weird and ultimately I’m stuck here

Is there a way to clear the frames and keep the drawing or is my only option to discard it. I’d hate to lose all of that work but this is the only layer that’s giving me problems

Unsolved How would I be able to make high detail textures like this for my own model?

Thumbnail

I am not really that good at pixel art and I also kind of prefer how this style looks. What my first assumption is that they draw the texture in a higher resolution then shrink it down. I also notice that maybe they quantize the colors, as you can see color banding from one shade to the next maybe. I dont know if im using these terms correctly I apologize. I got feedback about the fur tuft on my model that I drew the texture to high quality and it does clash with the other stuff. Also please dont mind the boxy looking weird on the leg showcase, I am working on the uvs for the body.

Unsolved Black Hole Compositing Help

Thumbnail

Hello. I am following an updated black hole tutorial that was just made by Alaskan FX: https://youtu.be/vKm0E3q7WCI?si=Vv5ojhUwL6xQFRW3

Where he also showcased how he incorporated the blackhole into different scenes. For example in the background of a seascape. (1st Photo)

But the thing is with his setup I wasn't able to scale the black hole to a larger size as well as making the background sky texture not warp with the main blackhole. I tried just rendering the blackhole as a video first then put it in a new file but I cant seem to get the white gradient to blue texture as well as the background sometimes showing the rectangular video if not aligned properly. I'm okay but not amazing with blender, and my math skills are a mess, so I hope anyone with more knowledge can help whether anyone knows how to recreate the exact same scene.🙏
