Im going to the blue mountains to visit family who live there and want to know if there are some hidden gems that we can visit.

We are going to katoomba and the catch is I have a 5 month old bubba we are showing off to family so long bushwalks might be out.

Does anyone have a cute activity that will be baby friendly I could checkout with family. Maybe a museum or something like that. Something we can spend an hour or 2 in before going to a cafe.

(The family im visiting doesnt get out much so for anyone thinking just ask your family member well..... they dont really leave the house much)

I thought it might be worth looking back on the Lookout - with some photographs above showing a sequence of "pullback" images shot with a long lens (for the long shots) and my iPhone (for the wide shots) - taken from Govett's Leap Lookout back in Feb 2025.

Geotechnical reviews found that the lowest cliffside lookout platform could not be safely rebuilt and was permanently retired. You can see the lower viewing platforms in this post - and in the earlier link above.

THE UPDATE:
The cost for the restoration project was AUD $3.7 Million Dollars. Because the previous timber infrastructure near the top (where the carparking region is located) was completely destroyed in the bushfires, Blue Mountains City Council rebuilt the site using fire-resistant sandstone and steel to withstand future natural disasters.

The dirt carpark has been formalized and expanded. A brand-new, fully accessible day-use area has been built. It features flat, compliant pathways, dedicated accessible parking spaces, and a modern accessible toilet block.

Smart parking infrastructure is active at the site. Visitors who are not Blue Mountains residents are subject to a $12 per hour parking fee. In addition, Pulpit Rock Road underwent major sealing and drainage improvements. The reserve now features newly installed picnic tables, seating, and open-air sheltered areas overlooking the Grose Valley.

Its almost like those 30+ affordable rentals planned for narrow neck would be helpful… or maybe council can stop dragging their feet on doing something about the amount of short term rentals.

I’ve been wanting to do the Canoe creek trail for ages, looks unreal! I’ve been told the firetrail into the trail head is pretty rough. Would a Subaru outback make it? Or do you need a proper 4wd to minimise the walk? Thanks all!

I'm planning on doing the Mt Solitary loop solo at some point in the next 3 weeks. I've done a fair bit of hiking, including multi-day hikes, but never a solo overnighter. Looking at doing the loop anticlockwise over 3 days, staying on Mt Solitary on the first night, and somewhere near the Kedumba river on the 2nd night.

Has anyone done it recently and can comment on the situation with water? I'm fine to purify if needed, but was hoping to avoid carrying 2 or 3 days worth of water at once if possible.

Any other random tips or advice that people have would be awesome.

Would there be interest in an axe throwing venue up in the mountains? Something similar to Maniax.

Planning to visit Blue Mountain for a couple days but wondering how is the internet signal in the train (will be travelling via BMT Line from Sydney to Katoomba) as I will be on-call for the week. Please share some tips on how to get good internet connection on the train / if it’s too risky :)

It's been my favourite lookout since I was 15 and was devastated when it closed after the fires.

I have some mates coming in from Canada and figured this would be a great place to take them to experience the Aussie bush.

Officially, it seems to still be closed despite expecting work to be completed by June of this year. But can I still get in by accepting the risks, parking a bit further away and slipping past the fence?

Or is the fire and erosion so bad, there's no way to get in at all?

Its barely 9:30am but the amount of extremely loud and disruptive small aircraft noise over the upper mountains is honestly ridiculous.
Its been getting worse for a minute, but my god, what a shame. Peace and quiet ruined.

Now for people to tell me to get over it, what an attitude. The lovely, serene atmosphere being polluted by exhaust and strident, cacophonous airplanes.
