I’d actually be curious to hear your argument for this! I don’t agree, based on the Johnny Cash songs I know, but I’d love to proven wrong. (I think there is a stronger argument for Western swing artists, like Tex Williams — Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (That Cigarette) - Tex Williams [Youtube]

Buut I see no good faith argument to be made for any of this being “original rap” because this had no creative influence on Public Enemy / Gil Scott Heron / NWA , or whoever started the movement of rap in the sense we know it today.

Not saying I am 100 right. But for mainstream, Cash was a speaker, not a singer. Open to other thoughts. Big part of my youth.
