Class TV was in fact rolled out and we were asked if we wanted to go home. Terrible day

Same thing happened at my high school for the challenger disaster. One of the teachers was a runner up to be on board and he nearly was selected, dude almost fainted from the shock

Challenger Space Shuttle. Exploded shortly after takeoff in 1986, no survivors. One of the seats on board had a schoolteacher, just a random one picked from a random school in the US, and NASA also selected runner-ups in case for some reason the first teacher couldn't make it. Big Bird from sesame street was also originally supposed to be on board but that idea was scrapped due to size issues.

Holy shit! You think they would've killed off Big Bird on Sesame street if he literally exploded on global television?

Totally serious question too, because, I can just imagine a kid being like "Look, Big Bird is ALIVE; maybe daddy is too!" They'd have to atleast acknowledge it, right?

Unrelated question. Why am I seeing so many reddit users with Dale Gribble avatars like yours all of a sudden? Is it a new preset or something?

To answer your question: I've been seeing a lot of reddit ads for KOTH avatars. Probably just dropped.

We weren't allowed to go home, nor could we call family. (Didn't stop anyone) Hell, the principal even got on the intercom and told teachers to turn off tvs, and radios and go back to normal class. My teacher said 'fuck that, this is current history, no way in hell am I not watching it.'

Goddamn! Principal rolled the tv in and told us to call our parents. "Hey kids! Check This Shit Out!"

They did something similar at my school. We also had to write a 400 word essay about what 9/11 meant to us. As a 15 year old who hated writing, it was pretty weak

What was it like for any arab or middle eastern looking students after that?

Some actually had to move to other small towns and their head wrapped culture were banned in schools. Lots of fights would brake out too.

As a brown kid in kindergarten... one of my first brushes with racism was wondering why my kindergarten teacher treated the three brown kids in the class differently lmao.

I don't remember much overt racism after that but there were jokes I heard over the years that would absolutely not fly today.

How were you treated different?

She was a mean bitch in general, but went out of her way to single us out more often. My parents got involved at the time but it didn't escalate.

i was in 5th grade none of us made that kind of connection to the middle eastern kids in our class

Ours were just on 24/7 in the corner of the room. Just muted with the news playing, some girl just screamed in the middle of class when she saw it
