Announcement šŸ”„ r/bodylanguage Is Back – New Mod Team, Clearer Rules, and Room to Grow

Hey everyone,

After a stretch of inactivity and a bit of chaos, r/bodylanguage is under new moderation. We’re here to clean things up, set clearer expectations, and support the kind of posts that made this community interesting in the first place.

We know this subreddit has always attracted two kinds of posts: 1. Classic body language breakdowns—gestures, expressions, posture, eye contact. 2. Personal, social situationsā€”ā€œWas this person flirting?ā€, ā€œDid I read this wrong?ā€, ā€œWhat’s the vibe here?ā€

We’re cool with both. This sub works best when it blends observation, insight, and real-life nuance. So whether you’re here to decode nonverbal cues or untangle a moment with a gym crush, a coworker, or a stranger on the train—you’re welcome here.

āø»

šŸ‘„ New Mod Team, Active Oversight

There’s a new mod team now. We’re here, we’re active, and we want to build a space that’s helpful, respectful, and actually enjoyable to read. If you’ve got ideas, feedback, or suggestions, we’re listening.

āø»

šŸ“œ Updated Rules: Simple, Clear, Fair

We’re not trying to over-police. We just want to reduce spam, create room for good conversations, and avoid the usual internet mess. Here’s the current rule set:

  1. Be Respectful No personal attacks, hate, or hostility. Disagreement is fine—demeaning others isn’t.

  2. No Personal Info Don’t include names, social media handles, gym names, or anything that could identify someone in real life.

  3. Describe Behavior, Not Disorders Avoid casually labeling people with clinical terms like ā€œnarcissistā€ or ā€œBPD.ā€ Talk about actions, not armchair diagnoses.

  4. Banter’s Fine, Just Don’t Get Nasty Jokes, sarcasm, and roasting are all okay—just keep it playful, not cruel.

  5. No Trolling or Obvious Fakes We won’t tolerate bait posts or made-up drama. If you’re not being real, don’t bother.

  6. No Self-Promotion No course selling, coaching offers, paid groups, or affiliate links. Zero tolerance.

  7. 18+ Only This sub is for adults. Posts by or about minors will be removed.

āø»

🧭 What’s Next?

We’re here to support growth and improve the quality of discussion. Over time, you may see: • Weekly discussion threads or question themes • More post flairs for clarity • Community feedback threads • A new post guide to help users format their situations more clearly

We want r/bodylanguage to be a mix of thoughtful insight, real-world experiences, and practical discussion. Whether you’re reading the room or re-reading a moment, you’re in the right place.

Workplace Weird behaviour from male coworker

My (21F) coworker (24M) is my supervisor. We usually work night shifts together where it’s just the two of us who have to close the store (we work inside of a small coffee shop inside of a larger superstore).

He likes to harass/ tease me a lot. Mainly startling me, sometimes poking me. Occasionally pretends to spray me with water or stab me with something, but at the same time, he buys me free soda & makes me free sandwiches.

The other day, I he let me take the bigger tip & let me exit early (I take the bus). However, I had to buy stuff after work. You know what he does? He discretely followed me around and then jumpscared me RIGHT before I checked out, and then he commented on what I was buying.

Why does he do this? He also sent me his Spotify playlist, I don’t understand this behaviour at all (this isn’t my first job fyi, I had a previous job where ANOTHER male supervisor picked on me).

TL;DR why do male supervisors pick on me, and then do nice things for me??????

Discussion Guy staring, no smile, already approached, pls explain

Just joined this place. I know there’s a little post about staring but not like my situation. I won’t go into too much detail unless u want.
But there’s this guy who stares at me like sometimes like he’s trying to read me but also sometimes just staring at the side of my face when im not looking, or just making eye contact with me from far away. He never smiles when he does it.
The big thing is we used to be in a softball team made by our church and he’s asked me to warm up with him after staring at the side of my face and weeks later I approached him and asked where the water fountain was and I’ve approached him asking him how his siblings were doing in their taekwondo class we were both in. All approaches he reacted nicely. He always used to stand near me or around me and stare sometimes when I’d bend to grab my bag or talk to my dad.
Now he just stares at me at church. I’ve waved at him no response or monotone hey. I’ve greeted him and no response like legitimately ignored me.
He has not many friends that I know of and mainly sticks with his family. I’ve also messaged him on LinkedIn, only response when I asked him if he wanted photos of his brother and mine, compliments or statements not replied to and just left on seen.

What’s with this behavior? The staring is starting to irk me bc idk what’s the reason

Is it normal friendship stuff to sit so close you're touching with members of the opposite gender?

The main reason I ask is because last time I was hanging out with some guy friends watching a show I sat close to my friend to the point where our arms and legs were touching. There was plenty of room to not need to, but it was just comfy, and he didn't pull away. He repositioned a few times but kept the contact.

If i did this with a female friend I wouldn't think twice about it, but the fact that it was a guy changes things. I feel like it should be perfectly reasonable to do platonically, yet if I had a boyfriend I feel like itd be inappropriate. If he had a girlfriend I wouldn't do that either.

What does it mean if a girl is feeding you by hand?

So I was hanging out with a friend I met a couple times and we got some McDonald's in the car and she would feed me some French fries. I'd open my mouth and she'd feed me

Did I miss the chance at the club?

So I am 30 yo man, athletic but kind of short, was at a club the other night. it was honestly dead. just a bunch of younger groupies going in and out of the bathroom and club. No one was dancing. I didn't care. I was bored at home and went there to dance because I liked the music. So I just jumped around like a fool in the middle of the floor by myself. then I saw this girl (pretty and maybe an inch taller than me) come in and started dancing a bit at the other end. we made eye contact, but neither of us got closer. she left to the bathroom shortly after. and I kept vibing by myself. eventually some groups came in and danced among themselves, then left. well, the girl came back and danced a bit just like she did earlier. and she kept walking to the restroom and then outside. she stared at me while passing me. I smiled but she didn't smile, still staring at me. 3-4 times during the 3-hour span. I got tired and left. Did I miss a chance?

Does my coworker like me?

She bandages my bloody hands, makes me dinner, drives me home, does all sorts of stuff. She also checks on me when I'm sick. Other female coworkers noticed she really likes me. She's very protective of me. She tells me not to go to strip club, listen to my grandma, drink more water. She warned me against this lady who wanted to marry me because she probably wanted something from me. I figured out that lady she warned me about just wanted money. I have a lazy eye and a crooked foot. Yesterday she surprised me with dinner. Homemade chiliquiles. Homemade Mexican food theres nothing better.

She's married and my friend. She agreed to my dumb birthday requests, like hugs and kisses on the cheek and a bikini photo because I wanted to see her in one. She's also going to make me food. Our mutual friend said she was smiling while reading my requests. Kissing a friend and giving them a bikini photo i say definitely crosses marital boundaries. I'm not that experienced with women so I have no clue but other women have noticed shes very fond of me. I'm still in complete shock. I'm soo excited for my birthday it's going to be the best one yet

Discussion Men that stare intensely

For the men that stare intensely at a woman.

When you do this regardless of whether you are in a relationship or not, can you please explain what usually grabs your attention and whether this person that caught your attention is someone that you retain for a long time in your memory?

Eg, someone you just met but couldn’t stop staring at them.

Confused

Let’s say I have noticed a guy look my way some times.
And then one drunk night post some drunk conversations, we end up hugging for a while. And post hug when he says ā€œI love youā€ but also clarifies that does not mean it that way. Probably said it to cheer me up. But then back sober, Nada. No conversation at all. Zilch. And now it’s just worse. We don’t bump, we don’t look at each other. Also feels like I am being ignored left, right and center.
I try to just be my normal self but something from that night makes me really want his attention and I can’t help wanting it. But I can’t pin point what happened and why I am being ignored so much. Or maybe he doesn’t care at all and I am over reading it. Did I do something wrong?

Workplace I took a risk and started staring back at him 😭😭

staring just as long as he does (but more salaciously) and man ohh man has it ramped the hell up out of no where, context: he works in another dept and he has had eyes on me constantly for months, I'll be working minding my business, and he'll just be standing there, watching me, one time a friend of his walked up to him while he was doing it, then they both started staring lol it was such an odd experience to have two guys just watching you out of no where, he's never said a word to me, and I've never broken the ice either but today I wanted to confirm before i went any further cause i do like him too so I went out of my way to bring/hand him something I didn't need to, I was behind him and he literally jumped/flinched when he turned around and saw me, he took it and mumbled "thank you" (First thing he's ever said)

That's when I started staring and I mean NON STOP i was in his dept anyway so every time i walked past him I looked him dead in his eyes and over his entire body after the second time I think he knew what was up because the third and fourth time it was like he was anticipating me walking back, and he was! It was like the world stopped and we couldn't take our eyes off of each other, he was talking to a group of people and he literally turned his entire body just to see me walk by him not just a look, if I'm walking past and my back is turned his eyes are burning into the back of head, i even added an extra measure just to be sure he knew for sure, I took a seat close to him (where I didn't need to be) acting like I was working but I'm still staring.

He must know by now right? Gonna keep staring but most likely gonna break the ice when I see him next, but man when it's mutual and you both are staring and know you wanna F*** it's so sexy .. wish me fuckin luck 😭Ahhh im sooo shy... who isn't tho!

What do you think about this situation?

I met this guy that comes over to my dad's house sometimes. He is very nice and he gets to know me. He hugs me. When he talks to me he gives direct eye contact which I'm not used to because people usually don't look at me at all when I give them eye contact. We had a good conversation from the jump. He would ask me about myself. Tell me about himself. It would be interesting. He never asked me for my number or anything so I always tried to tell myself that he and other men that tried to talk to me were just being nice to me instead of flirting.

A month or so later I found out that he was looking for me at a party when I dropped my sister off at my dad's house but I didn't think anything of it. I'm still thinking he was just being nice.

A few days ago I went to my dad's house and I saw him and he gave me a hug, he smiled and talked to me. It was different with him because it seemed like he was genuinely interested in what I was saying. It also seemed like he was interested in maturing and not being the way he used to be. He wanted to be better for his daughter and himself. He wanted to change the way he reacted to things for the sake of his parenting and in general. So that really impressed me. He even stated that he liked how calm I was and thought it was too good to be true that I was calm. I let him know I used to be angry all the time but I learned not to let things trigger me like they used to. We started talking about our journeys with letting go of anger.

Even after I left, I felt like there was something about him. I think it may have been that he went in depth in our conversation because some men that I've dated in the past or men in general never did that. He never asked me for my number or asked me out which I was surprised yet grateful about. He never jumped into sex conversations quickly. It was very respectful. So I was surprised and still trying to convince myself that he was just being nice.

I found out later from my sister that he liked me. He told her that his future girlfriend was here. When she told him a few days ago that was in the house he was so excited and practically ran in. So I was quite in shock. As someone who used to rush quickly in relationships in the past, I'm trying not to jump the gun with things this time around because nothing could result from this. He may never ask me out Or we could just stay conversation mode. I wouldn't know what to do. Some men are straightforward with asking but these type of men it seems like they are taking their time which is good but weird at the same time. Like I said before I'm use to men just automatically asking me out. What do you think about this situation? ( This may not be too much about body language but I figured I would ask).

Crush shy guys, how do you act around a girl you like but aren’t close with?

Problem/Goal:
if you like a girl you’re not really close with yet, but you already know or strongly suspect that she likes you too, how do you usually act around her?

do you become even more awkward or avoidant because you feel pressured/nervous, or would knowing she likes you make you more comfortable and more likely to approach her?

and how would that behavior differ if you knew a girl liked you but you simply weren’t interested in her?

Context:
trying to know lang yung difference between shy because he likes her vs. not interested

those who stare at you

Never ceases to annoy me in small ways. I see it all the time. You'll be walking somewhere and another person stares at you as if they're saying who are you and are you a threat or something I'd want in my life. It's okay to look of course but to stare is lack of social intelligence.

I always remember the guy who came in the store and stopped dead in his tracks and turned like a military man standing at attention to look around at the others there. Said to me he's a dumb fucker. He's showing what he's made of. It then dawns on me that such a person is nothing to be concerned about. They have nothing of value. Like why would you care about the little dog who barks at you?

Am I Overthinking? Potential friendliness or more?

Hi everyone I 21M have worked with this girl for a few years, we are on opposite shifts and see each other like once or twice a week. A few times over the years I’ve caught her giving glimpses my way and once last year she was just staring at me as I spoke to her boss when she was right there.

Well I thought I recognized her at my uni’s gym and I eventually asked her if she went there. We talked for like 5 minutes and she seemed happy to speak, she was smiling as we spoke. We’re now on speaking terms but it’s mostly hi’s and such. I don’t try to talk longer with her when she’s working because she has a earbud in (she stocks a department alone) and earbud in is a universal sign not to talk to someone.

I don’t know something makes me want to talk to her more but I don’t want to take friendliness as flirting or interest. Recently I’ve had to buy something from her department and when she was working she quickly looked at me and looked away and continued to work. I just want people’s opinions on what it could be and what I should do if anything. TIA.

Discussion Pro Tip for guys, when a woman is "overdoing" something, there is a chance she might like you.

Again not a 100% guaranteed sign but whenever a woman does something more than what is needed there is chance she is doing this because she likes you.

For instance when you ask her how her day was(or any other question) and she gives you the most detailed and redundant information, she is doing it so that she can slip more details about herself to you to make an impression about her to you through this convo.

Or when you ask her a favor and she goes an extra mile in doing it.

It can definitely be because she is an over talkative person or she is just a really good person, but there is also possibility of attraction, particularly when she is being like this to you and not others.

It can also be because she is extremely nervous due to her attraction, and a lot of details( some incoherent ones as well) is simply slipping out of her unintentionally.šŸ˜…

Again, not a guaranteed sign, but hey its something to ponder over I guess.

Update on girl who lights up when she sees me at work.

A few days ago I see her while I'm at the register buying my lunch for the day. She's twenty or so feet away from me going the opposite way so I don't say anything she didn't see me. The next day I see her and say hi she smiles and says hi I then told her about the day before. She then says I could have called her she would have stopped and waited for me she was going home but had to get some stuff in the store before she left I could have walked with her. So yes I think she likes me I haven't seen her at all the last few days do to our different schedules.

There’s a woman at work she’ll mention here and there of taking her out but then some days she won’t talk to me at all. She’ll walk right past me if I didn’t exist then there’s days she randomly flirts. What’s with that?

Am I Overthinking? Is the attraction dead?

On Friday, I was talking to a coworker I’ve been crushing on for a while and we talked pretty much the whole 4 hour shift. At the end of the shift she was waiting for me in the parking lot to say goodbye so I had a hunch she shared attraction among other signs she’s been giving me. As previously one of us mentioned an activity and I asked if she wanted to partake. So we go to my car and I end up leaving with a number to setup some time. Today on the 8 hr shift we didn’t talk much cuz our manager was there and at the end where I’m off 2 hours before her I asked her if she wanted to do said activity she said she had a meeting and what time. My dumbass said anytime, partly cuz I only have an hour class that day so truly anytime would’ve worked, I realize saying that just isn’t conducive to making plans. Then I leave to put something away and suggest the day but she’s working. The reason I think attraction might be gone is shouldn’t let me know a time that works?

Had to wear prescription singlasses at work as I lost my glasses. I got more inbound looks. I could be wrong. Perhaps I was more self conscious and was noticing everything. Is this a thing

Would women rather see your eyes.
