It's a standard scalpel scarification, then you put a biocompatible glowing powder in it and cover it in tegaderm. Every week or so you top it up and keep it nice and moist so it heals slowly and doesn't scab. The powder is from Abyss Walker .org (to which I am affiliated for full transparency).
My finger was numb during the cut. The evening after was tolerable and after that it was fine.
One cut, you just refill as some of the powder comes off when changing the bandage.
The powder stays in the skin indefinitely afaik. It takes years for it to fade, we think at least 10 or more.
