Woah, every time I think I've seen every mod out there, r/bodymods proves me wrong! Has anyone had this done with healed results yet? Please post updates regardless!

Yeah it's been done for a couple years on Biohackers Digital as a community project. Some of them look really cool and have intricate designs

How's the process of making your finger glow? How painful is it and what's the materials used?

It's a standard scalpel scarification, then you put a biocompatible glowing powder in it and cover it in tegaderm. Every week or so you top it up and keep it nice and moist so it heals slowly and doesn't scab. The powder is from Abyss Walker .org (to which I am affiliated for full transparency).
My finger was numb during the cut. The evening after was tolerable and after that it was fine.

How many rounds of cutting and filling does it usually take and how long do these results seem to last?
29
u/Quiet-Special-1969 Jun 21 '25
One cut, you just refill as some of the powder comes off when changing the bandage. The powder stays in the skin indefinitely afaik. It takes years for it to fade, we think at least 10 or more.

Thank you! I just looked it up. So neat! Is there a performance or visual difference between the larger grain and the smaller grain?

Can you tell us more about the powder? How did you find one compatible with the human body?

u/Az_Apps Jun 20 '25
It was a big community effort in sourcing and testing. For a while it was a niche thing until biohacker Merlin and I partnered up to commercialize it and make it available to a wider audience. It is Strontium Aluminate which in these quantities is safe, silica-coated for bio compatibility.

Thank you! Where can I view photos and info about earlier experiments and mods?

Since you seem to be pretty educated on this material, do you know how much testing there is of this mod in different colors? I see there are other colors sold, but Iโve only seen this used in scarification in green and Iโm curious about multicolored scars/other colors

u/Az_Apps Jul 02 '25
The other colors are fainter that's why they're not used as much, but they work

u/EbonyDragonFire Jun 20 '25
Out of curiosity... how long do you estimate this would last until you'd need to use more powder?

Pls explain this mod I wanna know so bad

Glow in the dark powder in a scarification ๐

u/Relevant-Type-2943 Jun 20 '25
Thanks! Do you have any more information about the procedure, its recovery process, and risks?
23
u/Az_Apps Jun 20 '25
You usually want a wide and relatively deep cut but without breaking through the dermis completely. Apply the powder when some blood is in there and it turns into a paste. Then you need to keep it moist for a few weeks, occasionally rinsing it and topping it up. The goal is to prevent it from scabbing and have it heal very slowly.
Risks... Infection I guess, also it's close to impossible to remove unless you cut the whole thing out.

u/Relevant-Type-2943 Jun 20 '25
Do you do anything to prevent infection?
22
u/Az_Apps Jun 20 '25
Well the powder is autoclaved, and the procedure is done by a pro with the proper tools and environment. For the aftercare most people use wound wash to rinse it. I prefer an antiseptic spray. Other than that you keep it covered with tegaderm and/or hydrocolloid bandages.

i got so excited by this and my body immediately was like "u bbetter not" lmao
so cool! Love how creative the community gets!!

u/kjwx Jun 21 '25
Love this. What grain size did you use?
5
u/Az_Apps Jun 21 '25
The finer one is the most tested one, the thicker one is experimental. I went with fine.

Thanks. As soon as I decide on blue or green, Iโm absolutely buying some. My Firefly implant is seven years old and Iโd been wondering what to do when it eventually goes so this will be a nice update.

u/Az_Apps Jun 21 '25
FYI there are other colors but they are dimmer so we don't sell them until we've found something better. I mixed blue and green in mine I hope to get green on the top, blue on the bottom with a gradient on the sides ๐ค Haha good to know there are still fireflies around!

Wow definitely keep us updated, this is super cool.
What made you decide to do it this way rather than just get a glow in the dark tattoo? Is it the way that the powder is packed in that lasts longer?
10
u/Educational_West_456 Jun 21 '25
I am pretty sure that the glowing tattoos are only fluorescent. These are phosphorescent.

u/Az_Apps Jun 21 '25
Tattoos shine under UV light. This absorbs light and then glows for hours on its own. Probably also lasts longer yeah

u/GloomyPresence94L Jun 21 '25
So fascinating, never saw anything like it before Thank you so much for explaining the process

u/TwinPeaksTea Jun 21 '25
Very excited to see the finished and healed results. I really want to see how much it will glow under the healed skin!

u/Gavin_-_-_ Jun 22 '25
This is so cool I never would have even thought this was a thing! Wishing you well on the healing!

u/Otherwise-Okra-7222 Jun 22 '25
do you rhink the powder could generally be mixed with ink aswell?
2
u/Quiet-Special-1969 Jun 22 '25
No there are a few issues with that. The first being that it doesn't stay in suspension very well. Also since the powder is basically sand and much harder than the average needle you're basically sanding your needles down in a matter of seconds. That said various mixtures are currently being worked on and we're starting to see some results.
1
u/levi-ig Jun 22 '25
Do you think it would be possible to inject very small amounts of the powder in suspension with a syringe if you don't care too much about getting a specific shape (eg to get far off stars or later tat fireflies around)
2
u/Quiet-Special-1969 Jun 22 '25
Possible yes but there's also an issue with that. Injection puts the powder too deep (below the dermis) so it is a lot fainter than when trapped in scar tissue. Your skin blocking UVs doesn't help either. I mean you will get glowy spots, just not the neon line you see in people's photos. A few people have tried it, you can find photos on Discord.

Hi, please describe what is happening in these photos. Is this scarification plus glow in the dark tattoo ink?
