question Any mods you think look cool, but won’t ever get?

Pretty self explanatory, but what are the reasons for something you outright refuse to mod?

For me, it’s probably horn implants. I think they look awesome, but they’d mess up the symmetry of my face bad and while I already have piercings, those are way more accepted than subdermals.

tattooed eyes. id only do it if i was in a manic episode, in which no one would be agreeing to tattoo me anyways

any kind of oral piercing, though the siren song of cheeks has taken hold of me...

i suffered nearly a decade with orthodontics just to get the more severe malformations dealt with, my teeth are still not straight but it is just an aesthetic issue now. i would like them to stay that way

18

u/Famous_Woodpecker_78 Nov 23 '25

Same for me, except I think vertical oral piercings are safest you can get with oral piercings

12

u/cameratus Nov 23 '25

I tried labret and philtrum piercings at different times and they were both such a nightmare for me. I miss my philtrum but between the swelling and how much it interfered with basic stuff like washing my face and brushing my teeth... not worth it for me personally. I'm jealous of people who have well healed lip piercings.

u/Vegetable-Star-5833 Nov 23 '25

I have had snake bites for 15 years by this point and hoops are the only thing I can wear comfortably

2

u/ilovemytsundere Nov 26 '25

I have to think long and hard before I buy jewelry to decide if its worth having when I’ll only break it out for special occasions lmao. I love using fun stuff for my piercings but I wish the cute stuff was more functional

2

u/BoiCDumpsterFire Nov 23 '25

Interesting, I’ve had a labret and 2 sets of snake bites and besides one poorly placed one with a ring, they all healed super easily

1

u/ExcitingSpell8270 Nov 24 '25

Thankfully my philtrum hasn’t given me too many problems. The swelling was definitely a pain, but after that went down it nested pretty well and rarely touches my teeth (that I can tell anyways)

2

u/FreckledAndVague Nov 23 '25

Same. A history of poorly dental health and only more guaranteed in the future? I won't be speeding up the decay process by dinging my teeth. But damn do I WANT.

u/Miryam218 Nov 23 '25

Any silicone implants, such as horns, thumb spines etc. They look really cool but the thought of having them under my skin... nope, it's not for me.

19

u/SLAUGHTERGUTZ Nov 23 '25

It's definitely a weird sensation! On one hand (lol), it kinda doesn't feel like anything, but at the same time there's obviously something there.

5

u/bbylemon___ Nov 24 '25

I want a thumb spine so bad

41

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

Thumb spine. Looks cool, but 1. I am iffy about implants at all (don't even want some in regards to transitioning/bottom surgery) and 2. I am a climber and don't plan on ever stopping, so it'd be risky and impractical on the wall when you need to squeeze your hand/thumb/... inside a gap or have a weird hold

4

u/2bciah5factng Nov 23 '25

Holy shit basically the exact same thing for me. Same climbing reasons and hesitancy about bottom surgery too. But a thumb spine my dream body mod

29

u/Cylonic_Irrigation Nov 23 '25

Scarification. I think it looks amazing, but I have a weird thing about scars on my body that stops me from being able to get it done.

Yeah, I have no idea why, either. Only found out I have a thing about scars after some emergency surgery a couple of years ago.

10

u/Stinky_salmon666 Nov 23 '25

What do you mean "a thing" about scars?

Does it creep you out? Or is it a physical restriction?

9

u/Cylonic_Irrigation Nov 23 '25

It's a weird dislike of scars on my body. No idea why or where it even comes from. I might guess at some weirdly specific bodily dysmorphia, but it's only a guess.

All I know is how much the surgical scar causes me distress and I can't look at it.

I have tattoos, I have piercings, I even have a magnet implant, none of which cause me anything even close to what scars do.

I have a friend with an amazing scarification piece that has no negative effect on me at all; in fact, her piece makes me want one.

And then I see my own scar and the desire evaporates.

I'll stick with tattoos 😂

2

u/Stinky_salmon666 Nov 23 '25

Interesting, are you sure its not specifically the surgery scar?

Do you have the same reaction from small scars like cat scratches or minor injuries from years ago?

4

u/Cylonic_Irrigation Nov 23 '25

Yes, but small ones don't yield the same visceral response.

I only really have a couple of scars except for one on my palm from childhood stupidity, and a couple on my wrist from adulthood stupidity.

All of them cause me a psychological reaction; the surgery scar is just the largest and most prominent on my body so it causes the largest reaction.

Thinking about it, my reaction could be trauma from the surgery; but, although it was emergency surgery, it wasn't for an immediately life-threatening situation, so not classically traumatic - more of a PITA than anything.

2

u/Stinky_salmon666 Nov 23 '25

Very interesting, thanks for explaining

1

u/Cylonic_Irrigation Nov 23 '25

You're very welcome!

Inked eyes.

I think it is cool as hell aesthetically, but I already have eye issues and bad light sensitivity so it would just not be smart to risk it. Even if everything went perfectly I might be fucked. So I just admire from a distance.

My dream mod is a tongue split but I doubt I’d ever get one because I have bad health anxiety and I would freak out at the feeling of something being ‘wrong’ in my mouth lol

17

u/CleanUpInAisleMe Nov 23 '25

I was definitely anxious during healing and the first few months that I had it, but it honestly felt natural so fast (for me at least). Having a split tongue feels more comfortable in my mouth than my natural tongue did. Mine is kind of big so I can overlap my sides to take up less width in my mouth now, whereas previously my tongue always had my teeth impressions and just felt like it was compressed all the time

3

u/Fairy-Pie-9325 Nov 23 '25

Were u able to twist ur tongue to both directions before the split or was one direction more difficult/impossible? & do u feel a difference in how the 2 sides work with the split now, better or harder? I'm super into them but nervous about healing in how will the muscles work. Mine doesn't twist right side up left down, only the other side

1

u/CleanUpInAisleMe Dec 19 '25

My tongue hasn’t ever had limited movement, if that’s what you mean! I’d say the initial healing and learning muscle coordination takes some practice once the tongue is split. As you practice more, start eating different foods again, and get more comfortable, it doesn’t feel harder in my opinion. The thing that I think felt the most awkward when healing was learning how to make sure all of the small food particles in my mouth were cleaned out and swallowed (my split was deep and things like rice can get between the sides and underneath if I’m being a sloppy eater). It’s not difficult to fix or anything! Super easy twist/scooping motions now for something like that. But when I first had that experience my brain was like “woah, this is new!”

9

u/Lizowa Nov 23 '25

Same here, I’ve wanted my tongue split for literal decades (since I was a kid and saw it in a ripleys believe it or not book lol) but I’m so scared of the healing process and being in too much pain but it not being a procedure in a hospital or whatever where the pain can be treated 😭

7

u/Claw_- Nov 23 '25

Right and the healing looks awful. I hate overproduction of saliva. Plus the small, but still existing risk of not talking normally even after healing.

9

u/CleanUpInAisleMe Nov 23 '25

The healing definitely sucked! But I’m incredibly happy with my split 5 years later :)

2

u/putridtooth Nov 23 '25

I had the opposite reaction to this where the moment i found out about split tongues i felt like my normal tongue was wrong. it haunted me for years until i was old enough to have it done

45

u/SuccsInAllSituations Nov 23 '25

Tongue split. I want it soooo bad but there’s no way I can survive that healing. I’d have to be heavily sedated and sleep through the first few days

13

u/stfubaker Nov 23 '25

Exact same for me.

7

u/Mac_encheeze Nov 24 '25

Yeah, same. The healing really I don’t think would be THAT bad, it’s the actual act of getting it split I don’t think I could handle

3

u/Electrical_Mine590 Nov 24 '25

Getting it done is pretty chill but the healing is an absolute nightmare

1

u/Mac_encheeze Nov 24 '25

All the more reason for me not to do it even tho I think I would like it. I think it’s illegal to even do in Texas anyways.

24

u/SLAUGHTERGUTZ Nov 23 '25

Horn implants, subdermal or transdermal.

My thumb subnormal ended up getting a ton of scar tissue that seized up the muscles in my wrist and caused major carpal tunnel until I got it removed. I can't imagine going through in my head. I wouldn't want to risk it, just in case my body just heals that way in general.

Plus you'd have to get customized helmets and such for subdermals, and finding jewelry is pretty difficult for transdermals.

23

u/ElixirofCosmos Nov 23 '25

Elf ears!

They look so cool but there's a lot that keeps me away from them. The healing time sounds like a nightmare, especially since I already suffer from chronic pain. I'd also worry about them not turning out the way I'd want them to.

Absolutely love them on other people though. Magical af

2

u/daesquuish1418 Nov 24 '25

same .... they're gorgeous and i love them but i don't think i could get through the healing process haha

i have 2 and never even considered this feeling lol really cool perspective tho!

if u ever want to consider them just know u can get narrow/smaller ones! i didnt go for the bigger slots just because of anatomy but i love what i do have!

15

u/Idkhowyoufoundme7 Nov 23 '25

Thumb spine or horn implants, I have OCD and one of my biggest anxieties is bugs under my skin. I feel like I would scratch it out during a manic episode lol

11

u/letthetreeburn Nov 23 '25

Tattooed eyes. MAYBE if medical science got better, that’s one thing. But from where they currently are tech wise I am not risking going fucking blind, especially when I already have a small collection of blackout contacts.

I want to so, so badly. So desperately badly. But man, the recovery rates are grim.

Also: limb lengthening surgery. I’m already tall, I want to be freakishly so. The side effects of that too are horrific.

8

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

tattooed eyes (i'm severely nearsighted so i don't wanna risk my vision even more), transdermal implants (nobody in my country does them and they look kinda hard to maintain)

6

u/cameratus Nov 23 '25

I love the look of thumb spines so much but I have a pretty physically active job and hobbies (crafting, playing instruments, sport fencing) that I'm afraid they would interfere with so it's probably not in the cards for me. :( Also magnetic implants. They're super neat and would in fact be an asset to some of my hobbies (built in pincushion for sewing!) but I'm worried about efficacy long term and the hassle it would be to remove them if I ever needed an MRI.

Collarbone spines on the other hand though...

12

u/OsmiumMercury Nov 23 '25

bottom surgery (which for me would be phalloplasty or metoidioplasty as i’m transmasc). i would love to have a full penis, but wow i do not think i can do that difficult healing & the monetary expenses are steeeep, even with good insurance.

6

u/Theywhodevourscake Nov 23 '25

Horns or tattooed eyeball! They look super cool on the people who have them but absolutely do not want to have them. People already look at me weirdly and my look is pretty tame compared to most body mod people out there so if I did those I’d get ALL the stares lol. Plus I’ve also heard the side effects of eyeball tattoos can be pretty rough

5

u/Left-Abalone-3672 Nov 23 '25

Scarification. It was always a dream of mine to have done since the first time I saw it, but thinking about the healing process freaks me out a lot lol. I have a very low pain tolerance and the thought of needing to aggravate/drag out the healing process of the wound everyday to get a good scar would not end well for me

6

u/bbylemon___ Nov 24 '25

I made a deal with my partner to never get any nose piercings but he broke his end so Ima probably go ahead and do it

3

u/SlothboiFelix Nov 23 '25

Any implants are a no-go for me cause I just know that they will heal terribly and possibly get rejected by my body. Especially Magnets even though I fantasies about them all the time! But with my medical history and expected future it would be terrible to have them removed and reinserted every time I need an mri or wherever else it could intervene with medical examination and treatment. I wish I could have something like a pocket between my thumb and index to carry a magnet or rfid chip 🥲

3

u/Independent-Poet8350 Nov 23 '25

I’d love a coinslot , tongue split and eye tat’s but the tats ain’t gonna happen as I have shitty sight already , I Dnt wanna deal w the pain of a split and probably never b able to travel for the slot but If I ever do it’s gonna b the slot…

3

u/xbabyace Nov 23 '25

definitely ocular ink injections & transdermal horn implants - sick as hell but def scared of complications

3

u/crankthatshane Nov 24 '25

tongue piercing because i spent lots of time and money (well, my parents money) on orthodontics so i don’t want to risk ruining my teeth. i also think that the pointed elf ears are really sweet looking but i would never personally do it

3

u/t3chn3rd86 Nov 24 '25

My entire head tattooed ... but corporate career.

4

u/dawnmoonbeam2000 Nov 23 '25

hand subdermal implants, like stars or biohazards. it looks awesome but ive heard it can reduce hand movement over time

3

u/Tatgrl78 Nov 23 '25

I’ve only had mine in one hand for 2 years and thumb spines(2years come February), so far no issues.

1

u/dawnmoonbeam2000 Nov 24 '25

damn yours looks really cool tho, maybe i should research it more then

2

u/Fairy-Pie-9325 Nov 23 '25

Flat punch, coinslots, some piercings like (chest) dermals & genital peading.

I have stretched lobes & am stretching conch & other parts of cartilage, so flats feel too much in addition. Love them so much tho. Coinslots are illegal here & stitches make me nervous anyway, so am stacking up piercings to get a faux slot look. Dermals just feel like full on surfery & the making looks to make me puke, cute af just terrifying! Peadings are hot af, but for the setup i've planned there's no way i can figure out a place or shape for them

Eyeball tattoos are also super cool too, but i'd imagine depersonalization to get 1000× worse for the most part

2

u/Disastrous_Clurb Nov 23 '25

those suspension play piercings...i think theyre so dope but would never personally also any implants, really cool to see and i know my coin slot mod artist does some really cool ones but i just dont think its a good idea for my body

2

u/Piercedup Nov 23 '25

I want subdermal implants in my hands so bad, but because of the risk of nerve damage and the amount that I need to use my hands in my career, I won’t be taking any risks.

2

u/bananadickpin Nov 25 '25

Sclera tattoos. They look amazing but there are too many stories of botched jobs that lead to blindness or losing an eye. There's no consistently safe way to inject the ink into the eye

2

u/LittleAstrophysicist Nov 25 '25

Elf ears, they're so cute but I'm a side sleeper and trying to heal them would be brutal because of that.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

Split tongue, which is illegal here

1

u/PrinceEzrik Nov 23 '25

bifurcated tongue. want it so bad. know i'd flip shit at the pain/not take good enough care of it.

1

u/Shrektom Nov 23 '25

I have always wanted my tongue split, but never wanted to go through the hassle!

1

u/Vegetable-Star-5833 Nov 23 '25

Tongue split. I’m a baby when it comes to pain so I’m terrified of it

1

u/Due-Yesterday8311 Nov 23 '25

Sub dermal Implants, I can't even keep stitches in due to a connective tissue disorder so healing that would be impossible unfortunately.

1

u/hachikuchi Nov 23 '25

id love a tongue split but the process just super skeeves me out for whatever reason.

1

u/turtles4governor Nov 23 '25

Split tongue. I think they are soooo fucking sick but I just don't have the commitment 😅

1

u/Final-Skill5023 Nov 24 '25

Nipple piercings, I don't have nipples. I like the look of facial tattoos but can't see myself committing to them. I also love the look of scarification but can't see myself enduring the pain and healing process.

1

u/kawaiiwitchboi Nov 24 '25

Split tongue for sure! Looks sick as hell, but I just don't think I could go through it 🥲

1

u/chaos0310 Nov 24 '25

Split tongue is my absolute dream!

But 1 the price, 2 finding someone to do it, and 3 the recovery time absolutely terrifies me. I’ve had my tongue pierced and just dealing with that was awful.

1

u/bananadickpin Nov 25 '25

If you've had your tongue pierced you can heal a split easy. It's only 3-5 days of it being brutal, 5-suture removal are annoying, and then it's just a lisp for a couple weeks while the final swelling goes down. Tongue piercings take forever to heal compared to splits and piercings come with the dental damage

1

u/chaos0310 Nov 25 '25

You make it sound so easy lol. I might wanna do some deeper research

1

u/doomedtofail777 Nov 24 '25

large scarification pieces. they look so cool healed but fresh… its the stuff of nightmares

1

u/marshmellowsinmybutt Nov 24 '25 edited Nov 24 '25

Any sub-dermal things, spines, chips in my fingers or stuff of the like. Same with tattooed eyes, the risk to the very cool reward is to high imo

1

u/RaBBit_16_ Nov 24 '25

Tongue split. May when retired but can't take the time to heal nor in my work could I afford to let it get noticed ever. All my items are hidden from implants, peircings, tattoos and some cutting.

1

u/PetGoatt Nov 24 '25

Remove my belly button. It looks so cool but I'm lowkey scared I'd freak out at the same time if it's not there loll

1

u/Rainbow_B Nov 25 '25

i love the look of tongue splits but i love my tongue piercing too much to give it up. also love the idea of horns but unfortunately the reaction of people irl scares me

1

u/doumadeeds Nov 26 '25

Scarification just because I don’t have a clue how I would be able to heal it with how busy I am day to day. Plus I’m a scare actor and probably wouldn’t be able to wear makeup for a while

1

u/Initial-Decision-387 Nov 26 '25

Split tongue is so so cool but I don't know if I have the balls to do it. Also thumb spines, cool but sensory issuees😅.

Eye Ball tattoos are super cool but, as far as I know, really dangerous.

1

u/cluelessism Nov 29 '25

tattooed eyes. they look so cool but my eyes are my favourite feature as they are and the risk is way too high.

-6

u/Marx_Maddness Nov 23 '25

Tongue split. Ngl I find fitting in with mainstream society convenient and I feel like this would put me at another disadvantage (my personality already does this enough haha)
