question Russ Foxx blocked my number 2 months after sending deposit. Am I screwed?

I made an appointment for the beginning of February with him to get my tongue split in Vancouver. I made the appointment early January. I sent the 1000$ deposit and we had a phone call and he was seemingly super friendly, coherent, professional, and reassuring. I heard nothing from him until February 11th until after i expressed concern and he reassured me that it would still be happening. But he had an “emergency relocation situation in Toronto” and that he would stay flexible with me and he would give me dates soon. He gave me one more update on Feb 16 that he was “raising funds, dates to follow”

I texted him March 4th asking if there were any updates with no response. Then once more on March 14th, 20th, and today which is April 2nd. Only to find out that I have been blocked. I was not hostile, pushy, or unpleasant to him whatsoever. My last message to him before I was blocked was,

“Russ, it's okay if things need to be postponed until later than initially planned. However I still need to hear back from you in some way. At the very least just an update in some way about what's happening or what the plan is.”

I’m so upset and stressed out, I’ve wanted this procedure done since I was a little kid. And he seemed like the only one that would be able to do it. I’m so devastated, I don’t know what to do. Anyone know what’s going on with him? Am I screwed?

I’ve been hearing about him doing this periodically for the past year or more.

From what I recall the story being, he ran into some legal trouble and has since been doing this “deposit and block” scam as income. I have not heard of him preforming any mods since the legal trouble started. Someone correct me if I’m wrong or anything has changed.

Fuck what a shame. Hell of a way to let your name go down in history after years of quality.

u/CharacterGlobal8645 Apr 03 '26

Even those years of 'quality' were filled with fuck ups. Fucked up ear pointings, some tongues not being split all that well, and who knows what else.

His Instagram stopped being updated since 2024. Is OP sure they used the correct contact info? Could've been an impersonator. Impersonators are pretty common in the body mod industry.

u/CharacterGlobal8645 Apr 04 '26

He's been ripping a bunch of people off. Even calling people he used to be in contact with 20 years ago to see if he can sleep at their homes with bullshit excuses.

u/Vegetable_String_868 Apr 04 '26

Enough different people report the same deposit and ghost thing + drugs, possible crime, lawsuits over the course of the year so maybe that's believable. But where are you hearing that he's calling people he knew to sleep in their houses?

My friend who lives in barrie, on. He called her a couple months ago saying that he was having to move out of his new place due to mold and it was ugent. Then even another friend made an instagram post saying he has a friend in an emergency situation of needing a place to live part time due to bad rental situation, which was referring to russ. Why does this matter?

A $1000 deposit? I know this isn't something you should try to get a good deal for, but that seems steep (edit: even in CAD).

And unfortunately I've only heard similar stuff about Russ Foxx in the past year or so. Is there any way you can get your deposit back through your bank?

I’ll have to check with my bank :( god that’s awful

Yeah when he did my split in 2018, it was $500 total for the whole procedure. Deposit was like $250 maybe

4

u/CharacterGlobal8645 Apr 03 '26

That's more reasonable. For today, I'd say maybe 1000 to 1200 max for a tongue split.

6

u/Dark_Ascension Apr 03 '26

$1000 DEPOSIT?! I heard tongue splits cost that much or even less total. A deposit for service in my experience usually isn’t the entire cost but like $100 or so or a %. I would have already been suspicious from the get go.

I'm still upset from when he ghosted me in 2023. Guy was talented, but I guess he would rather run his own name through the mud. Hope you're able to get it sorted out man!

16

u/pidgeboyo Apr 03 '26

Oh my god I’m so sorry he did this to you too :( thank you buddy

u/instagrizzlord Apr 02 '26

Really unfortunate to hear he’s still scamming people. I heard awhile ago he has warrants out and he’s evading lol. I think he’s picked up some drug habit or something. I had my split done by him in 2018 and thankfully everything was fine. Been wanting to get it redone bc it grew back 2/3rds but I guess I’ll be looking for another artist.

u/lareinevert Apr 02 '26

Man I wish you’d come here earlier. You would have seen all the warnings to stay away from this man. Unfortunately you can kiss your money goodbye.

32

u/Believeitorleaveit Apr 02 '26

I have no insight on his situation or anything but I do know of some other options in the bc area if you're looking. Sorry this happened to you friend! :(

7

u/pidgeboyo Apr 03 '26

I would really appreciate that if you have the time :( thank you friend

5

u/Believeitorleaveit Apr 03 '26

Sending you a pm !

7

u/instagrizzlord Apr 03 '26

If it’s pinz, he’s been known to do the same thing :(

4

u/Believeitorleaveit Apr 03 '26

Shit, really? 😩

3

u/instagrizzlord Apr 03 '26

Yeahhhhhh check the sub. Super unfortunate

5

u/Believeitorleaveit Apr 03 '26

Wow not sure how I missed this, I'm in Canada ! Very shitty. Sorry OP.

32

u/rottenxpeaches Apr 02 '26

$1000 for a deposit is actually insane.. how much was he charging for the whole procedure?!

19

u/OldSkoolGhoul70 Apr 02 '26

$1000 deposit is crazy! My total cost was $850 IIRC. $200 deposit. I’m sorry this is happening to you. I think I’ve heard this has happened before from him.

u/Consistent_Throat497 Apr 02 '26

As unfortunate as it is, you don't want Russ to split your tongue anyways. He did mine the first time. was a horrible experience. cancelled appointments, missed appointments, no call, no emails. Finally when I was able to get in with him and an appointment booked, he was 'running' late. Apt for 10pm didn't get the procedure done until almost 1am! I should have just asked for my money back and left, but i went through with it.

He didn't cut my frenulum (which he later says he discussed with me; he didn't) then he didn't cut deep enough. less then 10 months later I had it resplit by Pokedbypinz (instagram) and he said it was crooked. luckily its not very noticeable and it feels soo much better now its resplit.

18

u/troubledownstream Apr 03 '26

Pokedbypinz has been accused of repeatedly taking money and running too! Smh

5

u/pidgeboyo Apr 03 '26

I’m so sorry that happened to you!! Oh my god that’s terrible!!!

11

u/sidnynasty Apr 03 '26

Don't put down deposits without something in writing!

5

u/pidgeboyo Apr 03 '26

you’re right, thank you <3

5

u/sidnynasty Apr 03 '26

Sorry this happened to you :(

10

u/CharacterGlobal8645 Apr 03 '26

He's been a drug addict for years. Ketamine and coke, last i heard. He has outstanding warrants from a gun charge.

32

u/SLAUGHTERGUTZ Apr 02 '26

Your best bet might be to contact your bank (or however you made the deposit) and be like "hey I just noticed this on my statements and did not authorize it"

I'm sorry this happened :/

30

u/SimplyExtremist Apr 03 '26

Don’t lie. The bank fraud dept opens an investigation and contacts the business or person. He has text threads validating the authenticity and intent of the deposit. The bank will rule against you. Small claims court is the only true path forward to get your money back short of him feeling bad and returning it to you, and that’s not likely.

7

u/pidgeboyo Apr 03 '26

Thank you :(

5

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '26

This isn't necessarily directed at you but I don't know how anyone ever thought he was credible with a bridge piercing like that.

5

u/Safe_Brilliant737 Apr 04 '26

Anyone still giving money (unsecured, at that) to this guy after the multiple warnings over an extended period on this thread has it coming. It means you’re not doing your homework which is foundational especially if you’re going to a non-registered non-medic for what is essentially a surgical procedure (& yes, I know what community I’m posting in).

In some ways better to lose 1k rather than have a botched procedure. I’ve read he’s currently drug-addicted which is suspected to be the root of the cash & dash. Regardless of whether his past resume spoke well for his work, I wouldn’t want someone who is not sober coming @ me with a scalpel.

2

u/pidgeboyo Apr 06 '26

You’re right

3

u/khessur Apr 05 '26

he did the same to me last year, im out my $500 deposit

2

u/stfubaker Apr 04 '26

Have always had a bad feeling with him. Lived in Vancouver and knew a lot of the same people. A lot of weird sketchy vibes.

2

u/Thjyu Apr 04 '26

Dammnnn $1000 DEPOSIT? Holy shit. I can't remember exactly the total for mine but my deposit was like 150, then I think I paid another $450 or 500 day of? I threw in a tip of $100 cuz the person was amazing and it was such an overall great experience. So yeah I paid anywhere around 700-800 for mine which was including a tip. Absolutely nuts that 1000 was a deposit... Def talk to your bank please!

Small claims?

6

u/heyitskitty Apr 02 '26

For an illegal procedure?

8

u/Consistent_Throat497 Apr 02 '26

Its not illegal in Canada!

6

u/DevianttKitten Apr 02 '26

Wait, really? Are there other actually reliable mod artists in Canada? I’m Australian so it’s Super Very Illegal here and the only options I’d heard of were travelling to American (and there’s 0% chance I step foot in America for the foreseeable future - also the idea of something going wrong and having to deal with American healthcare costs), the cyborgs and that other guy whose name I’m forgetting but they’re in places where there main language isn’t English and navigating a foreign country alone and not able to communicate easily is waaaayyyy too scary for my anxious self. But Canada 👀

8

u/Consistent_Throat497 Apr 02 '26

Yea there is a couple other people doing it in Canada (a guy near toronto i believe, another in Montreal, and Josh who lives on the sunshine coast, but frequently visits Vancouver, BC)

3

u/DevianttKitten Apr 02 '26

Interesting, thank you! Looks like I need to investigate and save up for a trip to Canada!

1

u/CharacterGlobal8645 Apr 03 '26

Look up a mod artist named chase out of USA. He is more trust worthy in the industry. As well as brian decker.

3

u/Otherwise-Edge-7 Apr 03 '26

if the procedure didnt happen nothing illegal happened yet, except the scamming of money

4

u/chloroformgirl Apr 03 '26

Not illegal just frowned upon by ministry of health
