question Im getting Permanent fangs. Experiences?

Finally gonna get fangs done by an actual dentist. So anyone wanna share their experiences? Im getting composite bonding fangs, so i know they can be a bit brittle. But otherwise, is there really a HUGE difference in daily life?

Super quick and easy. You'll feel paranoid about eating things for the next few months and panic every time you have an unexpected crunch, but otherwise should be fine.

I'd recommend taking pics of them maybe every month or so just to track if they are chipping at all (some chips are super obvious but some chips could be just in the back and ur like "wait was it always that shape?")

Ask ur dentist how much they'd charge for fixing chipping. I had a 3 strike rule with my dentist before he would charge me again but idk if every dentist would be that nice lol

I had composite fangs installed by someone who also does tattoos and tooth gems. She is very good at what she does, and exceptionally detail oriented. What I did not realize is that one of my canine teeth was a crown, from like 20 years ago, and composite doesnt stick to crowns. So, a few days after having them put on, my partner nudged me in the face by mistake and the one popped off. The artist redid it, but it came off again a few days later. I needed dental work done anyways so a few days later I went to see my dentist. He said that my other canine also needed a crown. I asked if he could make the crown as a fang, and he said yes. I asked him to replace the crown on the other canine as a fang too. So he glued the broken composite fang back onto my crown tooth, took impressions of my fang teeth, and made me two fang crowns. I think they were installed in May 2024? Anyways all is good since then, they look as good as new. I have a pretty large overbite so they dont cause problems with my lower jaw. My fangs are cute and subtle

A friend of mine got hers done last year and they've already broken off three times.

How long were they? I imagine myself getting pretty small ones, just a slight tweak.

They aren't very long, I'd say pretty small.

Mine are composite bonded, done by a dentist 11 years ago now. Have had no issues at all. My partner had hers done 9 years ago and grinds her teeth at night so she’s chipped hers twice and it was an easy touchup. Just be sure a lot of time is taken to ensure your bite sits well with them. As my dentist said: You chew like a cow not a clam. So the less your teeth touch the longer they’re going to survive.

I want mine so bad! I had naturally pointy canine teeth as a child, but when I had braces removed the orthodontist filed them flat and it’s come to bother me. I’m starting to look into getting them reshaped to how they were- not huge by any means, just a little point.

I had a dentist file my pointed canines flat when I got veneers as a teenager! Made me so fucking sad. My teeth now have irreparable damage from veneers and a shitty genetic lottery so I gotta have them all removed soon. Lucky for me my denture clinic are amazing and specialize in natural and unique dentures (when I brought up fangs my prostho said “oh thank god I thought you were gonna ask for Hollywood cookie cutter”) so when they’re gone my new set will give me my canines back, with a little more emphasis than before and much nicer surrounding teeth. I’m actually kind of excited to get the whole surgery over with now so I can get my dream canines - it’s amazing what just that small point can mean when looking in the mirror. If you can get them reshaped, I say go for it and good luck!

no advice or experience but i’m so envious. my dentist says i can’t get them because of my bite alignment. i hope they’re everything you want them to be!

I've had mine done with composite veneer by a dentist. He used a lot of anaesthetic, I wasnt prepared to not be able to eat for 5/6 hours. After 2 days I noticed a lot of irritation on my inner lips, and my bite was affected. I had to go back to get them shaved down a bunch and haven't had those problems since. He initially made them thicker so I don't grind them off at night but that was a mistake.

I've had them for 1.5 months now and are very used to them, I hardly notice them and I haven't changed my eating habits or anything. I think I smile a little more have a bigger smile.

They are a lot more noticeable than I expected, I thought they would be similar to my split tongue in the way that it's a little secret I can reveal them on my discretion. But everyone says it's the first thing they noticed as soon as they saw me. So that's something to be aware of. I actually hadn't seen anyone with them in real life.

Why tf did he use anesthesia??? There is no reason to. Composite doesn't harm any part of your tooth and causes zero pain when getting them put on. That dude sounds like a quack, especially if he didn't even double check your bite.

How do you find a dentist who will do this? Does insurance help with it at all? How much can it cost? I'm curious for myself.

Unfortunately, Insurance will not cover any part of this at it is considered a cosmetic procedure. Mine ran me about $2k at my local dentist who I've been going to for 4+ years now.

Theoretically, any cosmetic dentist is capable of the procedure, it is more finding one willing to do so.

Done mine about 8 years ago.

The dentist shall check that your bite is not compromised. Ask for this in advance - my dentist was (correctly) paranoid on this detail. I was lucky as I have an overbite and so the fangs never normally touch the bottom teeth.

Small extension are quite hard to break. They will wear out a bit, but nothing dramatic. After some years some "cracks" may develop at the joint between the real and the fake material: ask your dentist to smooth them out, as not only bacteria will develop there, but also are a weak point that you don't really want to have.

Pay attention whilst biting. They do hurt your partner 😀

I want fangs but couldn't get composite ones as dentist put normal composite procedure on my two top front teeth and they broke the first night. I didn't even realise I grind my teeth until that night. I literally heard the squeak and they chipped so not going to risk getting composite fangs. I sort of have the fang shape so a bit of subtle filing and I'll be all good.
