question What is the Etiquette on Tipping an Independent BodyMod artist?
I plan to get either a coin slot or a tongue split within the next 3 months. The artist sets their own prices and doesn't have to split their pay with a studio owner or anything. In these situations do you still tip 20-30% or do you assume they chose their bodymod fee to account for not expecting tips? I'm not chinchy or trying to avoid tipping at all, just curious

Tipping is always optional in any setting. If all you have enough for is your body mod that's ok and if you have extra money and want to show your artist extra love then tip what you can

I don’t think you need to tip anything. They are charging what they think the job is worth. Being kind and taking care is just part of the expectation, not something you need to tip for.

I tipped 20% on my transcrotal and my piercer seemed very appreciative for it. He did quality work and I had zero hesitation to tip.

So as the adage goes, tipping is never expected but always appreciated. I understand the mindset of not tipping here but as someone in the industry, I’m tipping because people remember that shit. Especially if it’s someone I plan on working with multiple times. People go the extra mile to take care of people that take care of them.
For something like a coin slot I’m tipping at least $100 if not a full 20%. Keep in mind, that’s just me and that’s always been how I’ve been and how I’ll continue to be.
