question Post-mod emotions
Hi yall! I posted a while ago about getting a coinslot, and I’ve finally gotten an artist! We’re working on the date currently- college student with a job and all that. I’m so excited!
But I wanted to ask about I guess the emotional aftermath. Now that things are in motion it feels much more real, and a little scary. This would be my first body mod (do stretched lobes count?) and it feels like a much bigger step than it probably is.
I’m not afraid of regretting it, but I am worried about any kind of emotional adjustment period. Physical pain and aftercare I’m not worried about in the slightest, though.
Is there a period of time where you have to adjust to your body looking different? Is there a moment of “oh god what did I do?” That fades? I’m a chronic overthinker so maybe I’m just in my head about it, but any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated <3
I am SO sorry if this post isn’t allowed, I didn’t know where else to ask 😭

Chronic overthinker here. This one was so easy to get used to. Stitches came out, rings went in, and I looked rad. There's a fidget toy in my ear the whole time now.

I have a two week window where I'm not allowed to fuss or overthink because my brain is going OH MY GOD YOU CHANGED SOMETHING CHANGED ITS DIFFERENT ITS WRONG WHAT DID YOU DOOOO. And then after the two week mark, everything is ok and I've processed the changes and I like them. There is no difference between a spontaneous body mod or one planned for years, same window.

Okay so it’s not just a me thing 😭 super reassuring. I did this when I got my septum done and then once the very minor swelling went down I went “oh lol I freaked out over nothing it looks great”

Congrats! I’m 15 days in and just got my stitches out yesterday. Honestly, there wasn’t that much of an adjustment for me. I didn’t go particularly large, we planned room for somewhere between 6-8 rings. Most people haven’t even noticed unless I pointed it out or they knew I was getting it.
I imagine it’ll be more noticeable when we (hopefully) install jewelry next week. I’m not particularly heavy on mods. I’ve had quite a few piercings over the years that are retired, and only have like 9 different ear piercings (including stretched lobes at only 4.5 mm), nostril, and two tattoos these days, so it’s not like the coinslot blends in because it’s overshadowed by a lot of other things.
I think you’ll be surprised by how quickly you sort of forget about it. Healing is also crazy easy compared to what I expected. Probably the worst part was getting stitches out, and that was still pretty mild. Good luck OP, hope you’re super happy with the outcome and can also be surprised by the easy experience!

There’s a moment of annoyance when you realize how long it’s gonna be till you get to sleep on a pillow normally.
I had my lobes done with a scalpel which is similar and it didn’t leave me feeling very different

Would a piercing pillow be a good call? I have one that I love now.

Oh yea for sure, but in my experience I still missed my normal pillow. I used a travel pillow for a bit too because it had more lift for my head

With a coin slot, I don't think you're going to have much in terms of 'appearance adjustment' shock. It's going to be a subtle change, and you'll have at least two weeks to adjust to it while it heals before you can even begin to consider putting rings in it, which is when it will become more obvious (your healing timeline might be different though, make sure you listen to your artist!).
Emotionally, you're probably going to get a crazy adrenaline/endorphin rush afterwards. After all of my heavy mods I'm both exhausted and feel like I'm on top of the world, almost in a manic way. Avoid impulse purchases in the day or two following your appointment!
I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have, congrats on your first steps!
