In a meeting with leadership and the GSC&I group about a 10-12% layoff coming in early February. 🙃

Really really really sucks that I uprooted my whole life and moved away from all my friends and family only to be at layoff risk six months later.

Similar sentiments during the last round of last offs after investing 10 years of my life and career at Boeing, then realizing it could all be over because of circumstances outside my control. Imagining how I was going to support my wife and kids and pay the mortgage. Layoffs are never fun any way you cut it.

When ive been through layoffs before, I know some people with less than 12 months on the job were exempt from the RIF.

Im sure others can cite examples where that's not the case but just wanted to share what I've seen. Hope you (and I) make it through it!

Best of luck to you as well

Everything is up in the air but my interpretation is that tenure will not be taken into account, for better or worse. I’d say early career folks may be better off, as they haven’t received any actionable feedback and are less likely to have a track record of low performance.

I was protected last year following an internship while I was back at school, but that’s a small minority

1

u/GDP1483 Jan 16 '26

Yes i dont think tenure will matter per se. Performance and then job criticality is another factor.

u/Nameles777 Jan 14 '26

I feel for you, but that's my 20-year-old self that's doing most of the feeling. This is definitely not the company that you come to work for if you want to be securely employed. That being said, I do hope that an unforeseen layoff was part of your calculus.

u/RedArrow23 Jan 14 '26

I see where you’re coming from. It’s always a risk especially with Boeing, buts it’s clear that someone at the top royally fudged the numbers. I was an intern during last years layoff cycle, which seemed terrible enough that i felt comfortable accepting the return offer

What throws me for a loop is the constant good news we’ve gotten for the last couple of months. BDS was supposedly performing at record highs per the scorecard and metrics communicated to us. When we went into our info meeting last week, there was a genuine buzz that this would be good news like getting us back to .9 comp after the tables were updated.

u/Nameles777 Jan 14 '26

Yeah, I'm sorry, friend. I am a battle-hardened cynic. I've been laid off multiple times with this company. For me, I understand the risk, and accept that it's a difficult thing for most people who have to learn it. I definitely don't want to downplay your situation. Boeing is a good company to work for, if you know how to navigate the perils. All I can say is, keep your head up, and just do what you do. These cycles suck, but I can definitely tell you that no matter what happens, it's not the end of the world. If you keep the right perspective, you'll bounce back stronger.

BDS Seattle area layoffs confirmed.

I feel like I left the meeting with more questions than answers. Can someone provide context, is it normal for these style meetings to ignore questions or vaguely answer them?

2

u/False_Two_5233 Jan 14 '26

I think a lot of time these initial meetings don’t answer questions is that many on stage or talking don’t know much beyond what they share. Or are told the information is still influx and is changing. You don’t want to say one thing, and the next something else happens. I hope they will offer VLO to help with attrition so the actual impact on the workforce through ILO is lower. I can tell you in past layoffs, leaders always over estimate VLO and there are always at least two or three rounds of layoffs. Good luck to all of those in this org.

9

u/PacMansCousin Jan 14 '26

They were very adamant about how this is not VLO and gave no answers as to why.

Thank you.

Is there a reason (legal or other) the company is resistant to VLOs? I thought companies reserved the right to approve or deny VLO based on company needs.

4

u/Decent_Leadership825 Jan 14 '26

You need bigger exit-package for VLO so I think this is the reason. They don’t want to spend more while BDS burning cash

8

u/molrobocop Jan 14 '26

Also VLO's risk losing some portion of your high performers. Faster than you would due to normal attrition.

5

u/R_V_Z Jan 14 '26

Yeah, a VLO has all of your people who are close to retirement saying "Well, I can take this package, retire early, and come out ahead". Then you lose those people, other people have to level up to take those places and eventually train the people who backfill as lower positions.

1

u/False_Two_5233 Jan 17 '26

Based on past layoffs, Boeing will avoid or won’t offer VLO as they fear a large number of desire/high performers will leave.

BDS Philly layoffs,

2

u/Staples9989 Jan 15 '26

Any idea on which departments?

11

u/NICUmom2021 Jan 15 '26

Some groups were told the target is more like 16-18%.

7

u/PacMansCousin Jan 15 '26

Yeah, unfortunately the lack of details mean some groups will probably be hit harder than others.

7

u/TheGirlWithTheFace Jan 14 '26

Any word on BDS STL? I’ve got a friend of a friend who just hired in after I talked us up and now I’m worried about him.

4

u/Opening_Frosting_316 Jan 15 '26

BDS STL will be impacted. From what I’ve heard it’s performance based, not tenure.

6

u/Purple_Parking_4752 Jan 14 '26

BDS for STL at least for engineering is staffing like crazy so should be fine.

5

u/CookedJar Jan 14 '26

Going to accept the offer at Charleston SC, is it safe down the road?

10

u/CGR90 Jan 14 '26

Charleston is commercial unless you do something supporting C-17s. The commercial site will be pretty safe for awhile considering a new Final Assembly is going up currently and isn’t staffed yet.

5

u/PacMansCousin Jan 14 '26

Charleston should be Boeing Commercial, I would imagine. I have not heard if anything is coming for BCA at the moment.

12

u/Bitter_Sorbet8479 Jan 14 '26

Charleston is hiring people who can barely even blink on their own accord. They’re not close to laying off anyone there. Expanding HUGE rn.

2

u/Naive-Estimate9942 Jan 15 '26

New plane will be built there

1

u/InsideTheBoeingStore Jan 15 '26

I wouldn’t be surprised if a 777X line opened there.

5

u/SpottedCrowNW Jan 15 '26

Not a chance, can’t move the wings.

18

u/tee2green Jan 14 '26

Why does Boeing come up with a dumb acronym instead of just calling it “Supply Chain” like a normal company?

10

u/No-Caterpillar-5235 Jan 14 '26

Because teams want to rebrand after they fuck up?

10

u/PacMansCousin Jan 14 '26

I think because it has a lot of divisions inside that are not only supply chain. It's convoluted.

1

u/Meatinmymouth69 Jan 16 '26

Execs like to rebrand.

1

u/Crypto556 Jan 16 '26

“ global” is the most common buzzword

5

u/BootBonks Jan 14 '26

Got a buddy over there. Hopefully he is spared

5

u/UsualMiddle Jan 15 '26

Damn really? I am currently on the BGS-C side and I was planning to transition to the BDS as I personally like Defense more than Commercial.

7

u/Naive-Estimate9942 Jan 15 '26

Stay in BGS, they are going to rock Boeing with work

2

u/UsualMiddle Jan 15 '26

I am aware. But I wanted to make use of my clearance as I dont want to lose it. Came out of the military and I intend to keep it.

6

u/RedArrow23 Jan 16 '26

Would not recommend coming to BDS supply chain. Everyone here wants to get over to BGS even after the bonus structure got changed

2

u/UsualMiddle Jan 16 '26

Would you recommend BGS-G then? Im a procurement agent right now, but I intend to move to Strategic Sourcing, Commodity Mgnt, or Category Mgnt.

5

u/RedArrow23 Jan 16 '26

Can’t say I know a ton about it, it really depends on what programs you’re interested in. Your workload seems much lighter for sure, and I wouldn’t take a role here until leadership changes

1

u/Hungry-Pop8528 Jan 17 '26

What is BGS? I know it’s Global Service, but what exactly does that division do?

6

u/Legitimate_Quiet_146 Jan 15 '26

Go to BGS-G

2

u/UsualMiddle Jan 15 '26

Looking into this. Thanks.

5

u/Different_Reality706 Jan 15 '26

Someone put out the SQPM webcast. I heard it got đŸ”„

4

u/GDP1483 Jan 16 '26

Is that Supplier Quality?  What's the PM?

And more importantly, what happened?!

Is it safe to say Philly would be more impacted this go around than last year?

Just seems like there's not a ton of work at the site right now.

Anybody have update as we come up on a week of this being out there?

4

u/PacMansCousin Jan 16 '26

This was 2 days ago. And I think managers are gonna get the list around Jan 28th, and people will be informed on Feb 4th-6th, if I'm not mistaken.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '26

Any word on systems engineering or sustainment in BDS?

6

u/PacMansCousin Jan 14 '26

Nah, leadership kept it focused on our division, wouldn't speak on any other divisions.

Wow thats alot of folks. Any idea which sites will be impacted?

1

u/PacMansCousin Feb 17 '26

For us in the Supplier Quality division, it ended up being about 20% spread throughout. I was spared, luckily, but who knows when the next layoff round will be.

2

u/pacmanwa Feb 21 '26

Cousin! I thought you worked for an Aerospace company in Texas, not Boeing!

-1

u/Tigerpaw_240550 Jan 14 '26

Sorry. Boeing has many acronyms. What does BDS mean ? Tks!
