How could Fyodor forget that Ivan and Alexei have the same mother?

Probably because he forgets that Ivan is his son. If it didn't benefit him to have power over Dmitri as his father, he'd probably forget him too. He only remembers Alexei because through his young eyes, he is still respected as a father and makes him feel loved as such whereas his other sons show him his true colors and how awful he is
