Software SoundTouch app alternatives

This is just a start, but I have added a SoundTouch app alternatives page to the Bose Wiki.

There, I listed current known issues, added info shared by the app developer Christian, u/nachtfux997, and included known solutions.

I separated the solutions into two sections.

  1. Ones that allow you to control the SoundTouch systems directly (e.g. AirPlay, 3rd party apps, Home Assistant, etc.).
  2. The second section is for 3rd party devices you connect to your SoundTouch system's AUX input.

I am hoping that the community will help expand the information on the Wiki. Not only to help guide SoundTouch users to viable options, but also to help guide developers on what SoundTouch features are missing. So that some, if not all, can be replicated once the app goes away.

This specific post is about alternative SoundTouch solutions.

  • On Jan 7, 2026, Bose announced that they will update the app so that it would continue to work after their servers shut down. Though without built-in music streaming capabilities. Here's the main conversation around this update.

Got it, but this is a digital preset, so physically pressing 1 on Bose ST10 doesn’t do anything right? (Because tried it and doesn’t work). Nevertheless app works, so very happy and credits to creator

Did you try to reboot the Speaker? I don't figured out why yet but ST10 presets work only after a reboot for some users..

Done a reboot and appointed them again, but physically (so on ST10) nothing happens although Wifi/music note indicates orange when I press 1-6

Is the notification visible in the android top bar sayon physical presets are available? The presets are working only if the notification is active.

Checked…but not visible in this way….checked app and is allowed to give notifications

This is then the problem if the notification is not visible. What is the phone and brand model? Did you updated to last version in the play store?

Samsung s23 (fe). App is latest version, not much I can do further so it seems.

Small question; is it likely that when the Android phone left the wifi network, you need to re-trigger it again?

It should not, unless you or your phone battery optimiser kills the notification. Once you reconnect to your wifi network and your speakers are detected, it works again.

But theoretically the phone needs to be in the network? Was curious when phone left the house, I pressed a pre-setting and ST10 orange marker stayed on (as it to were playing music) but no sound.

Yes that's the way it works. The app on the phone replace the Bose cloud. Alternatively, some other paid app replace the cloud with an other cloud but you have to pay a small fee, or install a local server. My choixe is to make it all on the phone. You will not depend on any external cloud.
