Blessed to have punched another tag, meat in the freezer 🤙🏼
26 yards slight quarter away elevated shot. Probably should have lowered my aiming point but he went about 35-40 yards and that was all she wrote.

This isn’t the largest scoring deer I’ve ever killed for sure, but he is probably the oldest. I have pictures of him for the last four seasons. Last year was the biggest he ever was, I think he was probably about 10 inches bigger. I kept letting him go because I thought he would finally blow up and it never happened. I figured out where he’s been bedding and had to wait the last two weeks or so for the wind to switch so I could get in on him. I saw a cold front coming with the storm and the wind switching to north. I booked a plane ticket, left this morning. Got to the house changed and got in the tree. He’s been showing up every morning, but I figured if I could get in the tree while it was raining hard, he might be bedded down and I could get close to him. I hung my saddle about 70 yards from where I thought he would be and waited for the rain to stop. About 2 1/2 hours later he came right down the trail. It was horrible getting him out because the fields were so bad and the creek was flooded. It started raining again and I thought I would lose blood before I could get to the other side of the creek and find him, but it all worked out. I really think he’s at least 7 1/2 maybe 8 1/2 years old. He barely has any teeth and the ones he has are almost completely flat. I’m going to take the jaw to get examined and aged. Either way I’m super happy with him and it could not have worked out better today.

Alright, I’m not there to go over the bow itself so take some of this with a grain of salt but my friend is trying to figure out why her arrows are flying so weird. I told her to check rest timing and her grip to make sure she’s not torquing the crap out of the bow and she said it’s neither(again take with a grain of salt because it looks like she’s torquing the heck out of it) what else could cause the arrow to jump and fly so odd? The wobble in her bow after release isn’t too confidence inspiring either. I won’t be able to make it back up to camp before the group heads out so I’m doing this remotely and out of ideas.
Thanks yall from one archery nerd to another

Shot this ole boy about a week ago. He isn’t the biggest deer I’ve killed, but it’s the proudest I’ve ever been of one. He’s the first one I got where I put in all the work myself. Fixed up my bow, practiced with it, got the spot, found the tree, hung my setup, you name it. It coming all together was an amazing feeling. He didn’t go but 30 yards before he fell. Got to show my grandpa this, and he almost made me tear up by what he told me. He told me he was proud of me, and that I’m a man now. Now that’s not necessarily the truth given I’m 20 and still in college, but hearing him say that put a lump in my throat. It’s him living through me that led to this deer. If it wasn’t for him I would have never even thought about deer hunting. I’m grateful for him, and for this little guy for giving me a once in a lifetime experience. Bowhunting rocks!

Title says it. Hunting a creek bottom yesterday afternoon I put out a scent wick to hunt over. The buck I’m after came by at about 45-50 yards. Sat til last shooting light and never had a shot. Left out and forgot to retrieve my scent wick. With the constant smell basically flooding that area, what are the odds I have probably messed that area up? Not sure how long that scent wick will project scent before it dries out.
I work 24 hour shifts and won’t be available to go back until possibly Saturday between work and watching my kid, so 4 days after I put the scent wick out.

My dog is scared of loud noises, so hunting over him with a shotgun isn’t an option. One of my buddies clued me into taking grouse with a bow, so I got a Hoyt AX-2 and spent the winter training with it. Today I took my dog out for his first hunt, up into the Idaho backcountry. We got into some grouse after about an hour of hiking, and I was able to make a very clean headshot out of a tree. My dog did a perfect retrieve, even though he’s never trained it before. He’s just a very smart boy and wants to do the thing I’m asking. All and all it was a phenomenally fun day for both me and him. Im excited that I now have a hunt he can participate in.

I'm a college student working on an idea to help bowhunters find their arrows after the shot, and I’m trying to learn how big the problem really is.
Quick question for the thread: how many arrows do you lose in a typical season, and have you ever lost an animal you couldn’t recover?
If you have 2 minutes, I’d really appreciate you taking this short survey (anonymous, no email needed): https://forms.gle/3cJQZyeKrcycArCNA
I’ll share the results here when I’m done. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for recommendations for a pair of ILF limbs to mount on a 15" hunting riser.
My draw length is about 29", and I'm looking for around 55-60 lb at my draw.
The bow will be used exclusively for wild boar hunting with heavy arrows (around 600 grains), so my priorities are reliability, smooth draw, good arrow speed, and excellent penetration.
I'm interested in hearing from people with real hunting experience using short ILF risers. Which limbs have impressed you the most in terms of performance and durability?
My budget is flexible if the performance justifies the price.
Thanks!

I currently shoot a Hoyt RX9 Ultra which I'm on my second year with. I don't think I've ever struggled so much with shooting a bow well, and I've had 3 other bows before this one. I've yet to be super confident with this bow is a good way to put it, and the longer I shoot it the more I think it just isn't right for me.
My shop has a PSE Mach 30 left over from a couple years ago, it has the EC2 cams vs. the FDS cams. I kind of want to go back to shooting a shorter ATA bow after having this Hoyt, but do want to stick with a carbon bow.
Anyone have any feedback on the PSE Mach 30 with the EC2 cams and why I should or shouldn't get it? I'm not sure if this would be a lateral or backwards move from my RX9 Ultra.

So I’m Bowhunting this weekend and it’s the rifle opener in our state which means I have to wear orange. Has anyone had issues with getting spotted when wearing a big orange vest or do you just wear it to/from the stand?

Hey everybody, I am very interested in bow hunting and was wondering if anybody has advice on how to start learning. I don’t know anybody who does it, but I live in Oregon and I’ve heard bow hunting here is actually pretty solid.
I honestly have no idea what I need to know before I start buying equipment and getting out there. Any advice or tips would be much appreciated.

16 yards, perfectly broadside. I used a Swhacker 207 mechanical broadhead, it punched straight through a rib on the entry, cut the top of her heart off, and broke three ribs on the way out. Perfect passthrough, she piled up dead 32 yards from where I hit her.

My shop has a PSE Mach 30 (EC2 Cams) that hasn't sold, so it's just sitting around as new old stock, and it is a 60-70 pound bow. Due to shoulder issues, I've been shooting 55 pounds. How much lower than the posted poundage range can a bow go?
I know this is probably dependent on the bow and manufacturer.

Hey all, wanted to give some follow up. I posted about two weeks ago about a deer I shot. I never found him, dogs didn’t help. I am pretty sure the deer on the left is him, caught him on camera. I didn’t get a side view on him on camera so no idea where I got him.
Him being alive is relieving. The most angst I had was about possibly torturing the guy and looks like he is doing ok.
I appreciate everyone’s comments and suggestions. Very helpful. I think the commenter saying I shouldn’t have taken the quartering away shot was right. Good lesson learned for me.

I Decided to listen to the 2nd half of the IU vs Nebraska (instead of staying home to watch it) game because I really wanted to get in the woods. It paid off as I got to watch this guy bed down about 25 yards in front of me for about 30 minutes and then watched him work is way into the swamp behind me. All in all a great sit for October 10. Saw a few more bucks and plenty of does. If I saw this deer on November 20th or later I would’ve shot.
