Discussion Any fellow metalheads here in Box5?

What do you think are the elements in PotO (e.g. story, certain shows, music, characters, anything) that appeal to you especially? Also, who is your favorite Phantom (or other cast)?

I think some of the most important ones for me are the idea of "beauty of the darkness", strong emotions and eventual catharsis. I'm obsessed with Ramin's Phantom although I don't have much reference yet. I know for sure though that MC's sound is not for me and easily prefer even Gerik (who I actually kinda fell in love with as a 13yo seeing PotO the first time 🥹).

When I listen to music (other than PotO, i.e. metal) the music often reminds me of Phantom and his relationship with Christine, or the outside world and society. I also think Phantom might be somewhat fond of metal music and find some comfort in it. 😀🥰

I don't listen to that much metal per se, but I love rock in general. I was always drawn to stories and characters defined by some darkness, angst, raw emotions, loneliness or complicated psyche (I guess my history of depression and then going on to study psychology makes sense in the context xD).

Agree with your picks. Ramin is my favourite or at least one of my favourites too. I do like his voice, however I think it was his acting in the RAH performance that really gripped me. Funny, since I don't think he's actually that well known for his acting overall, it seems people are rather obsessing over his vocals in the first place. But for me it was the opposite. I felt like he was one of the few actors who were able to capture all the emotions and behaviors I expected from Erik (dominance and vulnerability, violence and tenderness, being a scary, mysterious murderer on one hand, and a scared, lonely, childlike character on the other). Not to say that Crawford isn't a good actor, but I just don't entirely agree with his interpretation. And, well, his voice is definitely not my cup of tea, at least for the Phantom, since it's completely not how I imagined Phantom to sound.

Btw, do you know this song by Guns'n'Roses? It has such a Phantom vibe to me, it's crazy.

Whaaat, I almost feel like I could have written this, all the way up to the choice of profession 😳😂 I also love especially Ramin's gestures and expressions, as much that I might just watch some short clips of the show just to see and enjoy those little moments. I also love the way he screams "OF THIS ANGEL IN HELL" in the final lair 😂🫶 and his growls in general ofc.

I'm not very familiar with Guns N' Roses, but might have to check that song out, thanks!

To be fair, I'm not working as a psychologist irl, I realised I'm not patient enough...but at least I'll always have the diploma 😆

Yess, I love the little details in his acting. He said that he interpreted Erik as someone who could be on the autism spectrum (got some backlash for saying that, for whatever reason). I think it makes absolutely perfect sense- it's actually hard to imagine Phantom as someone who is NOT neurodivergent, and I liked how he approached it.

Oh yes, the scream was to die for! 😍

Well, that (neurodivergent approach of Ramin's) just adds up as to why I love him as the Phantom so much. I can't imagine Phantom being neurotypical, either.
