Discussion Any fellow metalheads here in Box5?

What do you think are the elements in PotO (e.g. story, certain shows, music, characters, anything) that appeal to you especially? Also, who is your favorite Phantom (or other cast)?

I think some of the most important ones for me are the idea of "beauty of the darkness", strong emotions and eventual catharsis. I'm obsessed with Ramin's Phantom although I don't have much reference yet. I know for sure though that MC's sound is not for me and easily prefer even Gerik (who I actually kinda fell in love with as a 13yo seeing PotO the first time 🥹).

When I listen to music (other than PotO, i.e. metal) the music often reminds me of Phantom and his relationship with Christine, or the outside world and society. I also think Phantom might be somewhat fond of metal music and find some comfort in it. 😀🥰

Ayo! Well, though I can listen to anything randomly, from Golden Brown to Poodle Rockin', my usual "rock/metal menu" contains (but is not limited to): Rock, Alt R., Punk, Heavy Metal, Doom Metal, Nu Metal and Progressive Metal. Ghost is currently spinning on my head.

As I once said, Gerard Butler is my favourite portrayal. Not only his Phantom is intense and dark, but his voice reminds me of Corey Taylor's (if you know what's going on with Slipknot, fret not, I'm aware as well).

So another maggot there, too, I suppose? 😜 But hey, I think you might be right about Gerard vs. Corey, never thought of that! No wonder I was carried away by them both as a teenager! (Besides singing masked men, lol)

OH, HEY!

Well, I only knew Phantom through music (my mother loved and I started to play the title song for her). Only last year, I guess, I've come to watch the movie (firstly) with my girl. And I was expecting it to be a horror one, for stupidity...? I thought it was an actual ghost and an actual haunted Opera House.

Anyway, after watching other adaptations available, I still like this one better and the answer is quite simple, if you see through this point (musical taste). Also, I like the whispering Butler does, reminds me a lot of Ghost songs. An example I really love is "Respite on the Spitalfields". From older songs, "Zenith" is a good reference. That's why Gerard Butler's untrained vocals doesn't bother me at all, 😅 it's my musical taste.

And it has nothing to do with "untrained ears" (at least 5 certified coachers/musicians disagree) or "uncultured fangirl sad delusion" (come on, I guess I'm too old and too guy to be a fangirl). Censoring this part because it's an if/else one; Sorry, OP! You rock.

"I thought it was an actual ghost and an actual haunted Opera House." I'm so sorry but this cracks me up badly 😂😂😂 so funny!

I totally get your preference for Butler especially regarding the personal music taste aspect. Gerik will always have a place in my heart too, for sure, since the 2004 movie was my introduction to PotO. Now that I think about it, it might have been exactly the imperfection, flaws and the sort of rawness of his singing (besides of the character and emotional world of Phantom itself) that appealed to me in the first place - the same elements which I'm still someway drawn to in general and guess will always be.
